Qatar Gold vs Velocity Platinum. Which to use?

Yes, Qatar uses Air New Zealands lounges in Brisbane, Sydney and Perth, in Adelaide they either hand out a voucher or use the Virgin lounge and in Melbourne they use the Marhaba Lounge.
I flew with them in November, check in staff said there's no agreement, ANZ lounge staff also confirmed this, has it changed since then?

Prior to me departing in November, VA had confirmed that there was an agreement to use ANZ lounge when flying with QR but on the ground that wasn't true.

Maybe lounge agreements have been finalised since my travels.

Why are things made so complicated? I now it comes down to money, but there seems little concern over goodwill. Perhaps it is that we are in an echo-chamber and think flying and the experience of the journey is important. In the alternate universe, many people dont have status.
But there are some obvious examples of not thinking things through. Like having a world wide allicance and not allowing baggage to go through to the final destination. Or Air NZ, who decided to increase sales to LHR by code sharing with Cathay. I had a friend whose company loved the price and timing on this route. Only problem was, as a gold ANZ, she was not permitted access to any Cathay lounges if flying Y.
And dont get me started on the SC earnt on different partner airlines. Or the discontinued free access to main cabin extra on AA for QF status holders.
It does make you appreciate the lounge attendants who actually know the rules and are welcoming. They do exist, bless them.
