Did I hear this correctly on the ABC? The 747 sent to SIN to ferry people home has returned to port due to an engine issue?

Any verification here?

Re: Qantas 747-400 Engine Failure - Returns to SIN

Yikes, at least it’s not the pax that were affected yesterday, that’d be really spooky.

Also featuring prominently on CNN here in BKK. I think this is the week that the CEO earns his pay if he gets Qantas out of this without long term repercussions

Anyone stuck in SIN at present with some background to this?

Still waiting to talk to crew was the official response.

Big news in the states apparently.

I can imagine how unnerving it was to the pax, there will be a Vpod ex SYD today I suspect. OJD was the aircraft in question.

Sigh ...

Another interesting discussion I'll have to have with the flyophobic Mrs MatF, 4 weeks before we fly to Europe on QF.

I hope they have good champagne in the MEL F Lounge!!

The poor 'roo...When it rains, it pours...

Might have a look at the history of OJD.....

The media will love this - but I'm glad that they turned back unlike what BA did a few years ago with the West Coast US to LHR flight when they simply just pressed on with three engines.

The history of the airframe may have nothing to do with the engine problem, the engine in question may have been on all the 747s at some stage in its life that are compatible with it.

I have 12.5 hrs in QF metal coming up... in like 1.5 hrs...

That doesn't leave QF enough time for new engines huh?....

I wasn't too worried after the A380 incident but I must say... this is giving me some concerns...

90th birthday as well!

QF monitor all their engines globally in real time from Sydney. They have the lowest incidence rates globally.

I have every confidence in the airline.

For the weak kneed (?) if you need a gut full of champers, take it!

JT just arrived into SYD with his 707, maybe he can lend a hand with the uplift of affected pax ;), the connie arrived at 0630 so she can help as well.

Lets hope JT can also convince Oprah that all is well with the Flying 'Roo....These two incidence in the last couple of days are just sheer coincidence....

On another note, I am still hoping the A380s are back for my first flight in them on Fri on QF31.:)

I have never thought that it is possible to have Daily Domestic Service in Singapore... Qantas proved me wrong.

Daily SIN-SIN Service with Free SIN-SYD connecting flight.
