QF 71/72 cancelled today PER-SIN-PER

Email is acceptable but not everyone checks emails every hour.

I refuse to answer calls from Australia when I am overseas due to the ridiculous practice of charging roaming rates to answer a call but can receive SMS if the Aussie sim is in the phone.
I don't even answer calls when in Australia if I don't know the number calling. I won't answer calls overseas, even from numbers I know, for the same reason you mentioned. I'm not paying extra roaming charges simply because someone else called me.

If I get a SMS that says a flight is cancelled, I'll act on that message. If they try to call, they won't get through.
I've only had 2 flights cancelled (not simply delayed) during my travels. Both on QF.
The first was a domestic flight. They moved everyone to an earlier flight. I didn't get the message. At the airport for the original flight, they claimed to have left a message, which isn't possible as I don't use voicemail, nor do I have it turned on. They didn't even call the number that was listed in the booking.
The second was for an international flight. I started getting SMS messages about it. I was sitting in the MEL F lounge at the time and could deal with it directly with ground staff.

Just as a note...QF were quite apologetic and are going to issue (so they state) 300 dollars in travel vouchers per pax on each booking for all passengers on this delayed flight. Now while vouchers may not suite all, especially those on the flight who may never touch QF again for our booking we will take this offer (when considering what we paid for the flight). Also quite happy as British Airways has credited the ed sectors SIN-SYD-PER so the extra tier points and Avios are a bonus.

QF37/38 have been cancelled twice in the past few days.

I'm booked on QF37 tomorrow and half-expecting Qantas to cancel it for "operational reasons" (not enough seats sold).
We were supposed to be on 37 on Tuesday. Automatically transferred to EK405, 10.5 hrs later. Although it looked very empty and would have had 4 seats for ourselves, we didn’t really like the 03:25 am departure , so got ourselves moved to QF35 the day after we were due to travel. We were offered routing via SYD on QF1 but didn’t have time to pack.

Downside was iPad equipped A330 instead of 787. Luckily had no commitments so it didn’t matter either way, going home from being “home”.

Like I said earlier, don’t do the ORC claim! 😁

Very recently I had a long delay and mis connect flying AS J/F YVR-SEA-BOI. We were rebooked on DL SEA-BOI in whY departing several hours later. We did an ORC claim (that was processed immediately), but we had to do the fare difference claim and then try our luck on the new CA rules. As it turned out we got US$40 ea for the fare difference (basically buggerall) BUT AS refunded the entire fare US$600 in lieu of the CA compensation which would have been C$400 ea! Throw in a falling AUD and those ORC SCs worked out cheap! 😁

Oz needs similar rules.
