I noticed QF93 tonight is operated by A380 VH-OQJ which had positioned LAX-SYD last week...

Yep. A380s are being used on MEL-LAX for the next 2 weeks (only), then again permanently from December.

Do they then switch to SYD-LHR? The A380 starts back on QF1 this month. How many A380s have been returned to service so far?

There are now 3 in active service (OQD, J, K), with 2 in Abu Dhabi undergoing refurb/maintenance (OQB, OQH) and 1 more has just gone from Victorville to Los Angeles for prep to service (OQG).

Look forward to seeing them in the sky again... I thought they would all end up in the scrap yard at one stage during all the doom and gloom of the pandemic

When is the next A380 due back into service? I thought OQH was already refurbished so it must be having some in maintenance done in Abu Dhabi & hopefully a repaint!

Does anyone know what is going on with A380 flights between SYD and LAX in late July?

It seems all the flights with an A380 scheduled have been zeroed out. On days where only a 789 is scheduled, normal inventory is available.

Yeah I'm also wondering about the A380 on Syd - Lax. With Per - Fco there simply aren't enough 787's to cover the July schedule and Qantas is showing all 787's to Lax in July?

How many A380's are need to run the kangaroo route now? Four? And that frees up 787's as well, right ?

It does look like Qantas has fewer A380s in service now than it had planned. That would explain why all SYD-LAX flights have been "downgraded" to 787s until around 28 July, when 2 more A380s return to service.

My flight SYD-LAX next month has just been swapped from the a380 to the 787. Flight was already very full so not sure where the extra PAX will go...

As I think I said a long time ago, it was easy for the various parties to shut things down. But none of them have any experience restarting things (basically the world). People are gone. Equipment needs works. The entire system ceases to be "match fit", and there is no end date to getting it there.

+1. People can bash QF and AJ all they want, but look at BA, Easyjet, LHR, AMS, ARN to see this is a global issue.

I have a QF12 booking in August, no downgrade to 789 yet but seems the flight has gone off sale for J and F cabins. Only a matter of time then I suspect…
