QF A380 coming off MEL/LAX

For nearly all flights in December and January, flights MEL/LAX are zeroed out in F.

Looks like the big bird is getting pulled off that route!
Yep my LAX>MEL flight in late December got swapped from a380.

Is the 789 that much worse of an experience? Flying in business class.

Well if Project Sunrise takes away a lot of the demand to go to LAX with direct flights to JFK and potentially other destinations in the US, then QF may conclude that a premium lounge similar to LHR would be sufficient.
If that happens then the footprint per pax (is that even a term? If not I've invented it) will have to be more than the equivalent of the LHR T3 lounge. That lounge with one full A380 is an absolute zoo.

I last departed LHR five weeks ago and spent the majority of my time in CX F. I have a policy of visiting the 'home carrier' lounge in case of last minute issues with the flight. Thankfully I had a reserved table in the restaurant, to which I was escorted by the lovely gatekeeper on the front desk. Went for a stroll after a quick gin and S&P squid and the entire space was heaving. I appreciate there are OW pax there too but, boy, not a pleasant experience.

I doubt it. QF likely makes a lot of $ from other OW airlines using that lounge for F pax as there is no alternative except Flagship First dining for AA and BA F pax only.
Even there the Krug has gone and replaced with LPGS.

So the inevitable question is where will it be redeployed that has higher seasonal demand (surely it doesn’t need to be out of action for maintenance for so long).

Agree re: F Lounge - huge draw card for QF Plat and above to stay loyal, and source of revenue by on selling to other airline premium pax. Unlikely they’ll delete it.

Or is it taking longer to get the aircraft back than expected?

/waits patiently whilst someone who knows how to look assesses current fleet utilisation and sees if they are a frame down on current in the Dec/Jan schedule or not/

Oh, you mean AJ didn't plan ahead. He was told early in the piece how long it would take to get the flying side back up. Took zero notice.
When has he ever planned ahead for QF? When you have all your 'yes men' around you, nothing ever happens. He's just as bad as Mark Zuckerberg with all his 'yes men'.

TheInsider, you are an enigma*! In some ways you are incredibly defensive of Qantas and in others you are quite critical. Interesting.

*But a good one. I appreciate having you on the forums.

Or could it also be linked to crew/pilots and the potential lack thereof.
Or a combination of all mentioned reasons (Aircraft shortages, taking longer in AUH to prepare the A380s there for service, being behind in line for Boeing's delayed/deferred deliveries, plus staffing requirements).

I would reckon in J the 787 would probably be a better prospect than the 380.

Why do I say this? Simples.. same seat (pretty much though I understand the a380's have some small tweaks but in general the same seat) but the big one for mine is the far better reliability of the 787 fleet right now. QF has what five 380's currently running around, and as I type a bunch of services are chronically delayed due to ongoing issues (-OQK coming out of maintenance at LAX seemed to be a bit of a fail and will take time to catch up on a 17ish hour delay out of LAX, for example).

I'd feel more confident being booked on a 787 service to/from LAX due to more shells in the system and better reliability (in general) vs the 380 which... are iffy tbh (and I've got 380's to/from LAX in a few weeks so I promise I'm watching this space with some really personal investment in the situation ! :D )

I do not feel the 787 is a worse product in J at any rate (and, it usually flies a little faster than the 380 which is a bonus)

imo.
