QF A388's out of action - who is inconvenienced? [Merged Thread]

Re: A380 Flight this coming Friday

Sorry if I missed a post on this anywhere but has anyone been able to confirm or deny that QF are replacing the engines on the A380's?

How far is this likely to set them back and how long is it likely to take to clear the backlog? I am due to fly an A380 on Boxing Day and I am starting to be concerned.

They are replacing engines where anomolies have been found. Ultimately, the timing for returning to service is going to come down to how long RR takes to get to the bottom of the problem, and identifies how it will rectify it.

Qantas has only announced the replacement of 4 engines so far.

And now SQ has announced they are replacing 3.

I hope RR has plenty of stock! Maybe a few RR engineers sent to Germany to strip a few off some yet-to-be-delivered aircraft??

OQA is going to take a little bit longer given its wing holes and internal damage to the hydraulic and fuel systems.

It is times like this where it is handy to be a Platinum. Although reading about what happened to Bundy Bear in the last few days there is no guarantee alternative arrangements will work out to plan.

Ah the joys of air travel on separate tickets....

i'm even more concerned about QF12 on 20/11
My wife and I down for QF94 on Nov 14. Have just been confirmed that we are now on a 747.
there goes my second chance at 80a on the 380:mad::mad::mad:
As we are not even together (50E and 64G), and are both silver FF, I'm hoping a phone call will sort things out. Our bookings were combined, but with all the cough going on, I can understand how things come un-done.

I'm very appreciative of the J upgrade coming over, but these 2 seat numbers stink.

There was just (5 mins ago) a short bit on CNN about Qantas grounding its entire fleet due to the engine explosion. The inference was "entire" as compared to "380" fleet.

I'm so glad I don't work in reservations and have to fix all these problems.

Now back to Law and Order (new series!)

Just checked my booking online, and QF31 Thursday 19 has been changed to 747 :(
This has prompted me to check my Friday 19/11 booking on QF11 and it too is now a 747 2 class config. Bye bye 80K!
Now to ring QF and get my daughter moved next to me again.

yep, QF12 on the 18th is now a 747 :(

i'll never get to fly a 380. Suppose its my fault for early seat selecting and getting kick cough seats

Wow, we live in interesting times.

Booked on QF 11 on 23/11.

Been checking EF everyday, this morning suddenly everything was zeroed out except for F, A, P (yes, P suddenly appeared), J, D and I.

This evening it is now a 744, and QF 107 no longer exists.

Wonder what the story is with my booking, will investigate.

I'm in Economy on QF93 this Sunday, 14/11. Just got an email a few hours ago from Qantas advising me that my booking details had changed. I logged into my FF account and found that the A380 has now been changed to a B747-400 4-class config. My previous Seat Selection on the A380 had been removed and I was then able to select a new seat assignment. I was surprised that they actually had a few aisle seats (my preference) left to choose from.

QF11 on the 18th is also a 747 :(:(

Was to be first ride on a QF 380, and in J... Given I'm still showing as J I assume there's no Op Up coming through for this WP...have applied for F upgrade so I can but hope :confused:

Looks like a380's are off the menu for awhile, at least for November, wonder what effect that will have on Airbus, the effect on RR is obvious, aircraft orders over the next few months should be interesting.

I've just been on the phone to QF. The nice lady understands that they're planning for 747s as a worst case but still aiming to operate A380s. I asked why they wouldn't just reduce the inventory available, rather than going to the trouble of actually, physically reassigning aircraft and she couldn't answer it. So my thinking from that is, yes, they're out for a bit.

That said, QF93 is showing as an A380 on 26 November. The lady suggested, however, that they're probably doing a flight at a time. And it takes time to do.

Two other points I took from the conversation. One, the lady said "you'd probably know before we do" about any updates on the A380 disruption. This is not the first time I've heard this. Seriously, you'd think they'd be able to keep their employees informed. I think it's poor form. The other point she mentioned concerned when I queried whether or not I could move to QF11 the day before. I said it was showing D9 (I'm on a DONE4) to which she said that in cases of schedule changes there doesn't have to be inventory in the actual booked class. As long as there's inventory in, in this case J, they can "make it D". Interesting and perhaps something to remember for the future.

Assuming that the loads on the A380's are good does that mean that there is not enough capacity on the 747's for all passengers?
