QF A388's out of action - who is inconvenienced? [Merged Thread]

Am flying Syd-HK on Friday. Now 747 substituted with A330. No Y+ which I had booked.
Now if Y.

No mention of refund etc, so rang and girl had no idea. Said she would go away and ask.
15 mins later the answer was yes but they had not worked it out yet !!!!!!!

what a way to run an airline. Surely it would have been nice to have had a paragraph in the original email stating the amount. It is NOT ROCKET SCIENCE.

Followup
I received a phone call from QF, a manager asking about my previous conversation about my booking. When I told him, I felt the standard letter didn't mention about refund for downgrade, he omitted that it was a good point that they would rectify. I suggested it would save them a lot of phonecalls like mine.

Well my flight QF32 21/11 was to be an A380 has also changed to a B747, and my seat selection from bulkhead window, to lower cabin window even though my preference states upper window. I managed to changed it to the last upper window. There was 1 upper aisle free, and only 2 seats free on lower deck.

I also note my flight SIN-PER on the 19th has changed planes, looks like no sky bed now.

Hmmm, QF31, 7/12 is still showing as an A380 (fingers crossed), but EF is now not showing me a first class cabin (but the rest of the seat map is A380)

Not sure what that means?

EDIT: I note also that today is 72hrs since the previous QF announcement about the 380's possible return (in 72hrs), and an update has ben posted to the QF website:

No timeframe given now :(

No major issue, but I'm booked on NRT - SYD next Tuesday and the 747 has also been replaced with the A330-300. I had snagged row 16 on the upper deck so am mildly upset to lose the exit row - have also been given a window seat which is not what my preference says so it looks like seating preferences are ignored when the computer (or is it a human?) redoes the seating.

If your seat is not available on the new config you get the slops so to speak, sometimes it pays to keep that in mind and go for a seat that exists on various types of aircraft, row 23 is often a problem!

Re: A380 Flight this coming Friday

It is times like this where it is handy to be a Platinum. Although reading about what happened to Bundy Bear in the last few days there is no guarantee alternative arrangements will work out to plan.

Ah the joys of air travel on separate tickets....
Imagine what may have happened to BB if he was not a Platinum :!:

Looks like the plan for at least the next week (or until the 380s are back online) is for

SYD-NRT and SYD-HKG to move to A330s
PER-SIN to be 763s

freeing up 744s to cover most of the A380 flights. Some domestic fleet shuffling to free up the 330s and 763s but seems like a good plan.

Of course, if they have another major disruption, they'll probably grind to a halt!

I'm booked on QF10 LHR-MEL on 27 Nov in J, apparently on an A380 but I guess we'll see what happens.
blackhelicopter,

Welcome to AFF. (interesting handle)

I would say that 27 Nov is far enough away at the moment to be in never never land. Anything could happen by then. ;)

I am booked QF11 13/11 SYD-LAX which has been changed to a 747 4 class config, and return on the 27/11 which is still showing A380 - so here's hoping the issues are resolved.

My parents went to LAX today on QF107 (i think) and they were told yesterday they were going to be delayed by 1 hour - so that isnt too bad in the scheme of things.

A whole bunch of schedule and plane downgrades on flights from Australia to Asia.

2 that effect me.

1.
BNE-HKG QF97 I am now traveling during the day not the previous overnight flight it was to have been, so now I got 2 days to find some accommodation in Hong Kong for the night.

2.
SIN-PER QF78 was scheduled as a A330 now it will be a nice 767.

I've waited a few days to post my details here, and I'm glad I did as today revealed some more news ...

6 passengers (WP,SG,QPNB & 3 others), 4 itineraries (due to varying return dates), with original outbound routing as follows:
* 15NOV PER-SIN QF71 1535/2050 333
* 15NOV SIN-LHR QF9 2320/0525+ 388

Double aircraft sub to a 763 and 744 respectively, then we had the problem of trying to get seats together. Ended up with two groups of three at the front and middle of economy.

Today, received a phone call from QF advising that they have had to reroute the entire group via HKG for us to be on the same flight (apparently 36 pax had to be shifted), so now on QF67 PER-HKG (1035/1820,333) and BA26 HKG-LHR (2325/0450+,744). Glad to back on a 333, especially with a longer flight (HKG>SIN), but disappointed to be on BA. I guess I'll just try to sleep through it!

Seat assignments proved an interesting phone call for the PER-HKG sector (especially with three non-status passengers) but we are all together in row 25 so we can't complain. However, we now have to hope that PER can provide decent seats on the BA flight when we check in at 0730 (16hrs prior to departure). Here's hoping!

Cheesy

Can you look the booking up on BA.com?
