Re: Qantas: non-stop Australia (Perth)-Europe (London) Boeing 787 flights set to soar

Understand the stopover in SIN or KUL but why land into the continent (presumably paris) just to go to the UK by train?

There are no plans at the moment to fly anywhere other than to LHR nonstop from PER.
But if it did yes you could Chunnel to LON - why not. Who says LHR has to be one stop?. I know Melburnian1 advocates for rail as valid travel mode which it often is.

Dont forget that AY has a nice hub in HEL and will be operating the competitor to the B789 - A350-900. And gives a 2 stop into Europe via SIN/BKK/HKG - HEL

Why get to the destination ASAP?. Isn't the journey just as interesting?. (Of course people travelling on the dime of others have no choice)

Re: Qantas: non-stop Australia (Perth)-Europe (London) Boeing 787 flights set to soar

If the flight number and aircraft is going all the way from MEL-PER-LHR, then it would do MEL Int to PER QF terminal (intl side) under new arrangements of having immigration at QF terminal. It would streamline operations to avoid domestic flight. If different flight numbers, but same aircraft then it would probably do MEL-PER all on domestic side.

If if that's so then no lounge in PER for MEL originating pax (who will get MEL INT lounge) unless they wish to renter OZ for the pub before re-exiting at PER immigration at the DOM INT annex

Will the immigration annex service for the flights departing OZ extend to arrivals processing as well?. I can see immigration only for outbound pax for flights leaving on PER-LHR and only for inbound pax for LHR-PER???

Passport/Immigration.....They still class us as convicts!
Hardly. The Poms treat Australians as foreigners, which we are. Brexit won't change that. If you are still hankering over the days of the British Empire, then it may be time to get over it.

The cousins across the ditch must still subconsciously yearn for Old Blighty when they declined to change the flag. And they were of the more noble stock unlike our criminal ancestry

One would expect if it was a same aircraft operating dom-dom but continuing on to LHR, the MEL originating pax would have scarce little time to spend in the lounge anyway, as they would basically get off the plane, and probably head through to immigration and reboard the aircraft not long after that, unless there's an issue with the aircraft.

It will still be a 90-120 min transit as cabin prep, fueling, baggage/freight loading/unloading etc will be no different to any normal stopover.

I hope they build proper international lounge rather than pushing everyone into dom lounges.. Like ADL.

This!

It is what they indeed did with the SYD-xADL-SIN flights - PAX who wanted to use the lounge had to go through immigration, then back through emigration to fly to SIN.

I don't think it will happen before QF move to T1

Re: Qantas: non-stop Australia (Perth)-Europe (London) Boeing 787 flights set to soar

It may just be my bias but I prefer the more intimate nature of MEL lounge.

If there ends up being no QF F out of MEL how long will the F lounge last there anyway? I suspect a unified J/F lounge is in their medium term plans, leaving SYD and LAX as the only "flagship" Qantas F lounges.

There are MEL to LAX flights with F not just MEL-DXB-LHR

If they remove the FLounge then doing the extra flying to get from SG to WP will be much less attractive for those based in MEL. The FLounge for international travel is one of the key benefits of having WP status.

I certainly hope this is not true, although with the MEL international J lounge appearing significantly aged and dated, an integrated Lounge may well be on the cards in a few years time.

Read into this what you will - he doesn't actually mention 'Lounge'.

[FONT=&amp]“It will be a premium fit-out in line with our other terminal facilities such as Singapore and Hong Kong,” said Mr Joyce.

Re: Qantas: non-stop Australia (Perth)-Europe (London) Boeing 787 flights set to soar

Very wishful.

Also presume that QF will shut the PER T1 lounge which will be a loss for JQi pax

Providing the JQi flights remain at T1, I think it will remain open. For memory there is around 4-5 JQ/3K flights a day to DPS and SIN. In addition, there are 2x EK flights which QC members use the lounge for. Also, MH has now shut their lounge at PER, so use the QF lounge as well as other OW airlines CX and QR. For memory a couple of other airlines also use it as a contract lounge, including the QF codeshare flights to CAN. Prior to QF recommencing their SIN flights it remained open, so this would be similar.

Re: Qantas: non-stop Australia (Perth)-Europe (London) Boeing 787 flights set to soar

Sorry I'm a bit lazy to go through 34 pages of this thread, do we know how many QFF points for a reward flight on this route? Y and J.

Re: Qantas: non-stop Australia (Perth)-Europe (London) Boeing 787 flights set to soar

There are MEL to LAX flights with F not just MEL-DXB-LHR

For the moment there are, but down the track - replacing A380 MEL-LAX with B787 MEL-DFW seems quite plausible.

You can't book award seats more than 353 days out.

It's possible with the recent changes to points needed for upgrades that the points needed for award seats could be increased as well. I hope not, but it may happen.

Under the current award chart it would fall into the 8,401-9,600 (Zone 8) category, so 55k/84k/112k for Y/PE/J.

Etihad use the QF lounge as well.

That's after the points increase coming soon right?

224 J return + tax is tempting for a non-stopper :)
