Re: QF PER LHR still not for sale

Why not wait till one can search and check actual prices. The prices in AUSBT may not reflect actual pricing on launch.

Re: QF PER LHR still not for sale

Pricing in Y is insane. The Gulf carriers regularly have fares to Europe for just over $1k. QF thinks price sensitive pax are going to stump up another $1k or roughly double? Tell 'em they're dreaming!

Even funnier is travel agents are quoted as saying that the pricing in Y is "competitive".

Re: QF PER LHR still not for sale

That's perhaps the odd thing. QF is high density in economy. Yet a 5am arrival in winter when it's cold and dark and hours before you can check-in won't appeal to a lot of people.

But i'm sure that arrival time was all well and good when it went via SIN. Or is it different timing?

Re: QF PER LHR still not for sale

The pricing is quite competitive for non-sale prices. Remember this is a non sale fare.

Some sanity in this post :) Loving all the headless chooks shrieking around here about the published prices. Come on we all know that those prices are rack rate. No one pays that and certainly not corporates who will be filling the front of the plane which will pay the bills. You should see the discounts and rebates we get on all the major airlines ;)

Let's not forget that the prices released for the MEL-LAX 787 fares were standard non-sale prices.
Seems like Groundhog Day with a lot of the comments on here.

The real question is whether QF will have to sell Y fares for LESS than QF1/2 because there is such little demand to spend 17+ hours in a cramped tube, especially in 12 months after the initial hype of non-stop routes subsides.

There will be a demand, especially for those that just don't care about stop overs or Dubai. People already do it or plenty of other airlines. People already do it SYD-DFW (albeit not as long).

Who else flies SYD-DFW? AUS-Europe is a completely different market.

Fair call. Marketing isn't my field of expertise. However, wouldn't it make sense when announcing something like this to make the announcement with a sale fare? Mr Joe Public reads the newspaper this morning and sees Qantas will be charging $2200 in Y. He doesn't understand this is a non-sale fare or how these things work. All he does know is in the last week other airlines will fly him to London for $1k less. What is going to stick in his mind in future when he comes to book something?

Wow, just wow.

When is the name change coming? Should be NSWAS.

EK, CX and AY's revenue managers must just be rubbing their hands together.

The 787 QF9 timing is roughly akin to the "original" QF9 schedule (before the retime to a late night departure) of, IIRC 1550 ish out of MEL with the stop in SIN and a oh-God-its-early arrival into LHR so that is somewhat interesting, though the current QF9 is a much more friendly schedule for ex-MEL pax arriving into LHR around lunchtime, though this can still be achieved via DXB with EK.

Very disappointing to lose another 380 out of MEL though there are always other possibilities, and if pricing/avail works out reasonably on the EK flights it may not be so bad. Only major fail is lack of QFF's to be able to upgrade on those services.

While often QF deserves some critiquing for it's SYD focus, for the time being, they are effectively just re-routing a service through a different stop-over. I didn't see any name change suggestions after MEL-NRT is launched.... plus QANTAS just has a better ring to it :-)

Given their current circumstances, I don't think EK and CX revenue managers will be doing much rubbing. And if AY wants to come to the party, they can bring some metal down-under.

It's a bit more than that. MEL is losing QF F service to Europe. MEL is losing one stop trips to Europe with QF metal on the longest leg of the journey (MEL-DXB) where QFF flyers can use points to upgrade.
