QF Club vs QF J Lounge @ SYD - What's the difference?

I've been pretty impressed with a few Accor properties' breakfast spreads when I've used them so I agree as a general comment

but as Poochie notes the company is operating the lounge on behalf of QF - and is basically at the whim of QF and what they are paying to offer.

Of course let's not get back to equating QF F lounge @ SYD with the dom J lounges :D

the average QF lounge brekky spread is akin to what I've had at holiday inn expresses in AU - maybe a bit better - your scrambled eggs, bacon/beans/sausages type options. I guess they feel this is a) cheaper and b) more popular than a huge spread. I'd also note of course the various juice options, coffee (better than most hotel coffees when from the Barista), fruit etc definitely make for a reasonable spread of options that most people will be able to find things to eat (or just a croissant or muffin lol)

I am not a morning person so rarely am about for lounge brekky service or if I am it's mostly for the double shot (matteeee!) coffee to wake up so don't often have much of it.

I'd argue in relation to QF SYD J dom lounge - your sloppy egg scramble and snags are possibly better than the "orange/brown curry of the decade" option later in the day :D

When/If the Syd lounges get a refurhbishment it would not surprise me if the Club and J lounges locations get flipped like what they did in Melbourne so the J lounge has the superior location/views.
That’s what I reckon too but it’s a big IF when the SYD Dom lounges receive a refurb. It’s also unclear how the refurb process would work for such an important lounge? Would they close one side down at a time to refurb? Perhaps they close bits of each lounge?

On the assumption they're re-using the same space, I think you'd shut the QP. Renovate that to be the new J lounge. Direct all pax to the existing J lounge but limit access somehow to control numbers. Then reverse the situation once the new J lounge is done and refurb the existing one to be a QP.

Sshhhhh. Don't give them ideas! I always make a beeline for the timber floored area at the western end of the QP with views over 16R/34L. But I fear you're probably right. The gyprock wall that separates the J and QP lounges would take very little effort to demolish and rebuild if they wanted to adjust the floorspace when flipping locations to cater to typical numbers in both lounges.

On the earlier conversation about wine selections, I'm pretty sure last time I was in the Sydney J lounge I saw an enhanced selection of wines there that used to feature regularly in the QP. (e.g. some of the coughulus sub-brands). QP wines are now invariably paint stripper quality.

I thought that QF handed back the ownership of SYD dom T3 back to Sydney Airports, thus saving QF money, so it would have to be Sydney Airports now as owner who would have the final say so.
Edit: just had a look, QF handed back T3 to Sydney Airport in 2015, with a 10 years more from that lease, so if anything were to happen, it would probably be 2025.
But who would want to spend money, so maybe nothing will happen, who knows though.
Except Sydney Airport, who have not made any announcements.
I do agree with 1022 about that circular area in the QP though, good way to pass time.
If they do any works, I think too, they would take away the staircase that goes up from the double doors to the "museum" upstairs ((Heritage Collection)).
Not always open, but a good place to watch outside going ons.
That too is a good thing.
And what ever is replaced, will be modern, but also "cheap"/cheaper.

You didn’t really suggest letting the QP riffraff mingle with the elite did you 🤣

Has the Heritage Collection ever been open post-Covid? The page about it has been removed from the Qantas web site. My understanding is that it was operated by a volunteer group of retirees, who were probably pretty reluctant to come in during Covid, and they would probably need to recruit a whole new volunteer cadre by now. Recent retirees such as those furloughed/early retirement during Covid, may not be as nostalgic about Qantas as previous generations...

Edit: a review on Tripadvisor said it permanently closed on 31 January 2020, even prior to Covid hitting Australia.

That spot also has space for private rental/confernces when I last went in there.
Or some open space anyway.
Granted, I haven't passed SYD T3 in a "long" time!

Generally, the refurbs in other lounges have been done in stages. Obvously, the lounges can turn into a bit of a maze while this is all happening..

If this is the only idea they come up with for changes to lounges I wouldn't mind. What I'm more worried about is them seeing what US airlines are doing to their elites, eliminating lounge access as a privilege even for international flights in economy!

Update: Have now visited the QF Club and was a bit surprised. No showers (so far as I can tell) and no self-serve coffee machines either. That being said the lounge wasn't busy and there are great runway views. I haven't visited the QF Business lounge on account of me being QF Gold travelling in Y but would be surprised if it is significantly better than this. There also wasn't fast track security at the airport but the queue wasn't long.

What does surprise me is how the amenities of the lounge aren't as nice as MEL or BNE which considering the number of MPs that arrive/depart from the airport is somewhat surprising - it's not like there's a Chairman's Club in CBR!

I gather you're talking about the CBR lounges? If so, the showers aren't in the lounges. From memory they're to the left of the entrance to the J lounge at the top of the escalators.

There is actually a very swanky Chairman’s Lounge in CBR. I’ve been lucky to visit twice.

It’s like the SYD/MEL first lounges but everything is green instead of red.

If we're now talking about CBR, I've always preferred the QP there to the J lounge. Much more light and spaciousness, runway views and less loud tossers in suits. Whenever I've visited the J lounge it always seems very crowded whereas I've never seen the QP more than half full I reckon, even during sitting weeks. Thankfully the colleague I often travel to CBR with has lost their WP status, so I won't be dragged into the J lounge there any more 🤣 On the other hand I'll miss the MEL J lounge. The QP post renovation in Melbourne is pretty dire in my opinion....not Hobart grim (of course) but it's not pleasant. In contrast I was recently in the MEL VA lounge, post refresh and really liked it. Thanks to the Switcheroo promotion I might be spending more time in that particular VA lounge, but keep flying QF ex Sydney to avoid the horrendous T2 experience there.

lol yes.. the MP's and senior public servants etc all are in the CL so the QP is the last place you'd see them :D

and I agree the QP in CBR is a nicer space, views etc.. the J lounge has (slightly) better food, drink etc but it's just not as nice a location. imo.
