Re: Multi-million dollar Qantas upgrade - Eggplant economy and charcoal business

Is it me, or does anyone else feel the colour scheme a bit JQ'ish???

Having another look at the image, which has been credited to Qantas..

It looks exactly the same colour as Jetstar, but NOW with an orange armrest... Would JQ use ................ nah............

Re: Multi-million dollar Qantas upgrade - Eggplant economy and charcoal business

Definately not the ZX birds after doing more digging, QF own 16 and that's the refurb number quoted, the ZX birds are leased.

Re: Multi-million dollar Qantas upgrade - Eggplant economy and charcoal business

Leather seats? What sort of Low Cost Carrier is this?:p

Yes, I understand, but why not just let JQ keep the 330's and QF get the new 787's?

Didn't QF at some point say the -8's were too small as a replacement strategy? They want the -9's for QF right?

I love A330's as a type in general, was happy when DJ followed QF into them as well :)

Ugh I know. Not a fan of leather at all personally. I get that it's cheaper to maintain.... At least it hasn't penetrated the long range fleet.... Yet...! ;)

Re: Multi-million dollar Qantas upgrade - Eggplant economy and charcoal business

The only thing I like about the old BA birds is that they have the 2-row mini cabin at the front of Y.

A shame that they can't do this on the other 767s ...
Hard to do given the 2L/2R doors are in a different physical location on the fuselage.

Like markis10 I am looking forward to the end of the ZX's, not having personal air vents is the first of the many issues I have with them.

Assuming those photos on AusBT are the real prototypes, they don't actually look that bad (but you can barely see an aubergine Y seat in the background, so we'll wait until they are looked at close up).

Black seats with wood-coloured handle accent? And of course - you can still see the old Millennium seat with the same pitch (so obviously that is not changing). Funny enough - it looks a lot like Jetstar "Business" (ta da! That had to make it in there somewhere).

That wood will scratch pretty badly won't it? Looks a bit Fantastic Furniture for my liking.

Handing out mobile iPads is cheap, cheap, cheap. Very JQ or DJ PE.

I now choose my flights to avoid 767's because of the chance of getting these planes without personal air vents.

Re: Multi-million dollar Qantas upgrade - Eggplant economy and charcoal business

The real question - how many bathrooms will be removed?

Same as DJ, JQ and TT.

Next step for QF is to decide whether to reburish the older 73Hs (some are appraoching 10 years old) with the new interior while they are at it.

Yeah. In a sports car leather seats work. In planes they seem to use a tougher leather to stand up to the wear and tear. But this tougher leather in a plane they just seem like a LCC option. But by the looks of the photo economy class is still fabric. Hard to know what Qantas are thinking.

I thought that wasn't supposed to be real wood? I thought it was meant to be leather which is coloured the same as wood (not the grainy texture pattern, just the timber colour).

I think the focus on IFE for mobile devices is getting more ground around the world now (that is, if regional services even have any IFE at all!).

What would be nice is if you could slot (and secure) the flap of the case around the iPad into the top pocket of the Millennium seat. Then you have a makeshift IFE as such - of course the only advantage so you can watch and use the table at the same time (e.g. eat). Problem is that top pocket is a bit too difficult to ensure the iPad will stay there (you'd need pegs or something like that to hold it in the pocket).

Funny enough, SQ use leather in their J and F seats, but not their Y seats. LH Euro cabins are all leather seats; and a whole slew of other Euro carriers, too. The Virgin airlines of the world feature leather somewhere in their fleets (VS J notably is a leather seat, as is VX F). NZ Business Premier is a leather seat.

And tell me - why do people driving cars love leather seats rather than fabric seats? Is it because it's easier to clean? Or because it makes a noise when you change your seating position? Or it looks really shiny? Or it absorbs heat really well if left out in the sun?

That said, I agree with others in hope they will not be featured on long haul aircraft. I'll take QF's new Recaro Y seats on the A380 any day!

anat0l - there was a recent article on CX and their future developments in the IFE/AVOD area. It was interesting and lots of quotes from CX CEO.
I did a google, but couldn't find it, maybe another AFF member could help dig it up?

I found this: Cathay mulls removal of seat back TVs - Business Traveller

...but that's probably not getting to the point you wanted to make.

lol

this place sometimes...

what would you have them do with the old 767s

It's an effective solution to a significant problem. It's also the way airline entertainment will be heading over the next 20-odd years.

Re: Qantas 767 Upgrade - It's happening!

The 767 has been a reliable aircraft for me. A makeover will really help.
