At first the DSC promo excited me but now it think that excitement may have been a little premature. My status anniversary is the beginning of August. ....
So is mine, personally I do not think QF has fully worked out the DSC model. IIRC the first DSC general offer was in 2016 or 2017, since that time there has been reports of targeted DSC offers either individual or to a location and furthermore some DSC offers seem to be good for 12 months while others were for 6 or 3 months. My take on these shenanigans is to take advantage of it if and one can.
Do they typically apply to partner airlines?
Typically no. There was one year that AA flights were included between AU and the US and another year with EK to NZ provided you travelled on the QF code. Outside of the above AA and EK offerings - QF only.

The issue with doing a DSC later in the year is that traditionally/pre-COVID people don't need a lot of extra motivation to book travel at Christmas time. So a non-targeted DSC offer earlier in the year (around this time of year) when bookings are likely to be lighter makes a lot of sense.

I think with COVID going on it may well make sense for them to do these offers more often for a while, but we will see.

If there's no further status extension announced around this time next year you might think a bit differently about taking up an offer like this if you are still well short of what you need to retain status/level up.

Booked a couple of flights before the deadline for later this year. One was a SYD-MEL trip on a travel credit voucher that had DSCs attached anyway. The other was a Classic Flight Rewards trip which, as I'm a Qantas Points Club member, will generate SCs... and hopefully also DSCs.

That Classic Rewards trip was SYD-MEL-ADL return in business class, so should earn at least (16+16+16+16) SCs (according to https://www.qantas.com/vn/en/freque...ne-earning-tables/classic-flight-rewards.html). And if the DSC offer applies to Points Club Rewards SCs, that would mean a total of 128 SCs for 55,200 points and ~$140.

Just got to figure out the optimal way of using those gift vouchers that do NOT have DSCs attached to them...

I've not purchased gift vouchers for awhile - there's no option for QFF number when purchasing GV, just the names of the PAX?

When you redeem you could put in completely different names if you wanted to, so you'd put in the QFF number for each passenger when redeeming the GV.
Great, thanks mviy, so presumably as long as the redeeming PAX had registered for the DSC, then they should receive the DSC?

According to the offer T&Cs, no unless the voucher is also redeemed during the DSC offer period. In practice, things may or may not be different.

And here was Qantas thinking it could earn some extra money by rolling out the DSC offer. Timing is everything....

My flight to OOL isn’t until the end of June, so I’ll keep the booking in place. Many others will have booked for later in the year and should be okay. I wonder if borders and self isolation will remain the same for fully vaccinated travellers?
Yes I also booked flights to OOL for DSC in my case for 18-22 June, so I am hoping it will go ahead. I used my travel credit from a trip booked for March 2020 to Melbourne to pay for this booking. The DSCs will be nice, but I am not really confident of being able to earn enough SC, even with DSC offers with only domestic flying and a membership end date of 31 March. I don't think I have any carry over SCs, so it will be a long slug to do WP requal, even with DSC offers. I ended up only booking this one flight because of the uncertainties about domestic travel.

I gather you mean for extension to March 2023? I am hoping you did that one little flight required to renew until March 2022? At least you have the chance, probably, of international flights over a good part of next year.

I’m glad I booked the flights Sunday night. I didn’t realise how good the prices were until I saw the fares today!

Yes I did take the 1 flight, but that will only see me extended to March 2022. So after that I’ll be back to LTG unless I can get some international flights in before end of a March 2022. Not holding my breath on that 😣
And boy you are right about the prices going up - cynically I wonder if that’s just in time for the Govt subsidy - although I think I read that the subsidy was off the February prices.

Half price off what original price, is what I want to know..
I read somewhere that it was off the February price.

If international travel does not resume for over 6 months after currently scheduled by QF we can only hope that there are further DSC offers or other support made available to help. QF will not want to lose the loyalty of its international customers, I suspect. They will want them to continue to choose QF rather than its competitors and for a large number of regular travellers, status is an important factor in that decision, I think.

Also when international travel does resume for an initial period it’s possible the Syd F and MEL F lounges may be open with the J lounges shut just like they have had Domestic J open with the QP shut. If SG can access the F lounge in those places for an initial period that could cushion the blow a bit during the time taken to level back up to WP.

I could do domestic status runs to keep SG or get WP back, but I’d much rather that a DSC trip in J on QF to London would make up the bulk of that.

Prices going up now can’t affect the government subsidy - if you google you will see how that is to be calculated.

100% agree with everything you said! And I would be adding in a stop over in Dubai to see my son on that trip to London/Europe.

This will count as two flights. You’ll earn DSC on the outbound and you would also earn them on the return (albeit at a reduced rate) if you are Qantas Points Club member.
Thanks for the info - much appreciate your reply. (Actually I thought I'd replied earlier, but apparently not. My apologies for that oversight !)
