QF/EK FF benefits revealed

Swapping slots means EK will have to fly one of its LHR flights during some silly hours, possibly affecting its own connecting pax. I think the probability of this happening is quite low.

AJ spoke to some employees in SYD today in a roadshow, and the question about the connections came up.
The answer from AJ and senior schedulers was that LHR is their main port and most of the QF passengers are heading to LHR, while their other major connections have a small connection time.

They stated that they were looking at a later departure, but their corp clients said they would no longer stay with QF due to the later arrival time into LHR.

During the roadshow, AJ also stated that Berlin would be a huge possibility when QF gets their 789's, IF they can get a profit from QFi first.

Also was stated that in their first week of bookings with the EK JSA, there were approx 400 segments booked to go to VIE. This is something they didn't expect at all.

In regards to the SYD curfew issue, why can't QF, and/or EK, fly into MEL/BNE before flying on to SYD in the morning and out again? For EK this would be 5th freedom (or some other lingo I'm yet to remember) and for QF it wouldn't be a problem at all.

Eg. A380 lands into BNE after midnight some time, unloads whoever is good there, continues to SYD with perhaps some new pax and the rest leaving in SYD, to be the first flight in the morning before setting off again to DXB.

Same could happen to MEL, SYD remains the hub and each leg you gain and lose pax so it reduces loads on domestic flights.

Of course, maybe a morning departure from SYD / after midnight arrival isn't what passengers want? But if curfew is the issue, this solves it?

Someone set me straight here.

Sounds good in theory but who would want to add an extra stop (and disembarkation, refuel, reboarding, etc.) in reality when other carriers fly direct?

Are you just angling for an A380 in BNE? ;)

I thought it would be the other way round, down from SYD in the evening to MEL then late night out of MEL to connect with morning wave in DXB. But same principle.

I almost added that, but a delay leaving could mean they're stuck until the morning, but less of an issue the other way around.

Here it comes again, that old rumour. Please, please, please!

My personal opinion
QF will not get the 787s until it gets a pilot/FA deal that is closer to the JQ 330/787 deal
(and I suspect this is a long way off)

Did they give any info on connections to Asia, and any new services there?

They just advised that they have been talking to CX, JL, MU anf MH into offering more codeshares and connections. As for new services, they said that we will have to wait until we get the A332's off JQ first and the B788's come in play (for JQ).

If you look at some days going MEL/SYD-SIN-KUL, MH have more options available for sale at this time.

What about the spare A330-300's from the ceasing of PER-HKG & PER-SIN & ADL-SIN routes?
