  1. No new flights/destinations are available, as I could of flown EK before if had I wanted to (and have). EK have not added any new flights due to the alliance.

  1. Actually there are a whole heap of new codeshare flights available that allow points and SC earning. That were not available previously.

After 16 years of QF flying......I'm thinking QF is not for me:(

Near extinction of F
Flat J replaced with sloping J
Aligning themselves with a non - OW partner
Reduction of baggage allowance
Elimination of Asian stopovers
Re-timed flights that take the joy out of the flying

There is more.....but whats the point!

Where have they replaced a flat J bed with a sloping? They have replaced sloping J with flat bed J in the 747's...

I think the poster is refering to the use of A330 on some routes that have MK1 Skybeds

  1. I cannot fly to Europe on QF at all (except by backtracking 5 hrs to the east coast) and even Asia is now limited to a single flight to SIN a day (any bets on when that will be changed to JQ/3K?).
You can still fly from Dubai to London on QF metal.
You also get a better Perth lounge.

No, I booked assuming everyone would get the weight increase, because an increase was on the cards, not that it would be applied only after an arbitrary date. So I feel a little cheesed. Sure, I know that 23kg was always the standard, but other people on my exact flight will have 7kg more than me, so your 2012/2013 doesn't work.

Sorry, but each time there has been a change to the QF baggage allowances there has always been a split as to who gets what.

It happens...

What's with this apparent obsession luggage allowance. I only travel with hand luggage wherever I go and for however long

Also times change and we all have to move on. Not every individual feature will improve but OVERALL the whole Emirates deal will be really good!

Children traveling with eligible members will be able to relax in The Emirates Lounges subject to capacity.

While I'm very pleased to see you posting late to help answer questions here, I'm sure many members here, and just in general, would appreciate it if this was explicitly mentioned in the lounge allowance rules, rather than Qantas says so but wont put it in writing, just in the (un)likely event the lounge is empty and access for the kids is denied ;)

If that could be passed on, cheers. And I don't have kids so it doesn't impact me.

So no status credits unless the flight has a QF number. Question : Are flights from Dubai to New York going to have QF numbers?

To all that are complaining about the new baggage allowances:

I must point out that, sure, if you are looking at total weight for elites then indeed, it seems that there has been an "enhancement" to baggage policy. If, however, you see it as I do, and measure it in terms of how useful and/or flexible the policy is, then I would have to say that the new policy is better. Certainly, it is better for the average Y customer; that can be of no dispute. It is also better, I think (and I certainly know people in this situation), for those who are faced with a piece of luggage that may be 25kg when their baggage allowance is counted by number of 23kg pieces. It is also better for those who were previously limited to one piece: it provides them with flexibility. Also, it must be considered that certain pax may be limited in the types of luggage they own in that they may only own medium sized luggage, of which, they require to check in two pieces.

I do agree, that the new policy does affect negatively on a minority of people; namely, elites -- and only those elites who travel with a large amount of baggage. Personally, I have never checked in more than one 20kg piece. However, looking at the new policy all things and pax considered, I would have to say that there can be no dispute that it will be better overall for the majority of pax.

As to the "extortionary" levels of excess baggage fees, I invite you to take a look at CX excess baggage fees.

Perfectly summed up Pleb Status. As a FF Perth domiciled, there is only one thing for it. Start flying SIA out of Perth and arranging the credit cards accordingly. I am in the process ofsuch as we speak.

  • The normal pecking order for the spa appointments at the QF First Lounge are Platinum One and QF First Class passengers, then any other eligible F Lounge guests (who book upon entering the spa). What happens to those who are First Class passengers on flights which are not QF marketed & QF operated guests?

Probably have a few other things I'll raise later.
Good question. I would be interested in the answer.....

it does. But it's such a random date for the change to happen; you'd think they'd align it with when they started selling the EK flights...

Some of us like to shop, nothing wrong with that :D

The new luggage allowance is a joke. EK lets my Falcon fly in First Suite 1B, beside me, and QF won't!

I'm sending a submission into the ACCC right now!

I agree. My beef is not so much with what we got, but rather with what was promised.

Gosh . . . luggage is a MINOR issue, even with golf clubs or whatever, I've never struggled making the limits with allowance.

The individual feature that will make this alliance a failure for me is the absurd prices currently being quoted for fares with QF codes that I wish to fly. I can accept paying a premium to gain status credits via booking QF coded flights, but a "premium" of thousands of dollars is actually extortion, and will see me booking elsewhere.

However, I suspect/hope that once approval is confirmed, prices may become more realistic, so won't jump ship until the dust has settled. But I need a lot of convincing before I would agree that "OVERALL the whole Emirates deal will be really good" and that will come from realistic and competitive pricing.

A few kilos in luggage, vs a ridiculous premium for the flight itself..??? I think lots of people are barking up the wrong tree.
