QF F - 2nd & 3rd Impressions
So Cruiserette and myself have now undertaken our 2nd and 3rd QFF flts and again mixed impressions.
We flew 93 MEL-LAX on Sep 20 – typical QFF lounge exp – me cannot get their quick enough to savour every second of every possible offering – Cruiserette threatening divorce or even possible death if she is ‘dragged out of bed to get to a bloody airport lounge 3hrs before flt time’ again!
Whatever – I had the massage – she slept – massage went a whole 16 or 18 mins I think – not exactly sure but it was brief – whatever price was right. Ate brekky had a Champs or 2 and killed time to boarding – flt 30mins or so late dep – more threats to my well being – whatever.
On boarding I asked crew member if I could see CSM – she asked why? I told her this only our 2nd ever QF F flt and our 1st was certainly less than spectacular – she assured me this would not be same again. She offered me Champs which I gladly accepted. They were serving VCLGD which is quite ok by me – I think I prefer Comtes but hey let's not get too fussy – CSM came around 5 mins later and introduced himself and noted he was told I wanted to see him.
I conveyed to him our exps and thoughts on only previous QF F exp which was described earlier this thread – totally underwhelming to point even that Cruiserette felt totally ignored almost entire flt. CSM assured me this would not happen on the flt – I thanked him and he moved on.
I was seated 4K and the Ette 4H – totally our selection as flts booked with pts 11mths earlier so seat selection wide open. If we travel together on SQ always sit adjoining seats – QF’s F seat plan still staggers me but it is what it is. Close to dep Cruiserette has still not been offered Champs – so she asks – answer is we are really close to pushing back and it may be too late for Champs for you – jeez we are off to a good start huh. She did finally get a tasting pre dep.
After seat belt sign off it just took like ages to get a drink – crew were up and down and in and about but I have no idea what they were doing – could see nothing happening. Again not want to turn this into a SQ v QF post but on SQ crew always ask pre dep what you want to drink after take off – then that drink appears within 5 mins without fail – I seriously estimate it was 30 to 40 mins before I had a drink in my hand.
It's a few weeks ago now so memory fading but lunch or dinner or whatever they served was so ordinary – bit of a worry when best feature of the meal is soup – the soup was superb – and dessert was good too but main course and salad were so so ordinary. I think main was rack of lamb – tasted ok but I have had bigger items lodged in the corner of my eye – and as I posted in another thread serving a main with 2 red veg in pumpkin and sweet potato together had me scratching my head – salad a few chopped up lettuce leaves – it is what it is.
I have also posted elsewhere about the red wine – certainly less than inspiring – QF are not only ones guilty here – SQ too have Aust reds just not up to F std IMHO but they always have quality French wines as alt. Getting both Champs or red wine refills not easy – had to continually request top ups – really?
After sleep it's breakfast time – we both chose the scrambled eggs – inedible – soft stodgy gluggy and Cruiserette’s cold – again – exactly same as her only other QF exp – right about now I am hearing ‘Never again on this airline!’ So that is about our 2nd much improved QFF exp.
Ret flt Oct 4 on 94 LAX-MEL – we arrived airport ~5pm and easy checkin and into lounge. They were serving Laurent Perrier Champs which I am rather partial to – and it was our intention to dine in lounge then basically eat nothing on board pre sleep once in air. Lounge food didn't actually excite very much except to say it was quickly served – reds on offer Thomas Hyland CS and I think Centenerary Hill Shiraz – neither very exciting.
And as I have noted elsewhere that hideous carpet and those ridiculous kiddies school camp cutlery that QF use – OMG whatever they pay that dude to come up with these he is taking money under false pretences. But again others may enjoy tham and totally their right to do so.
Boarded on time and imm offered Champs – CSM around to each pax within 1 min to introduce himself – warmth and friendliness of cabin crew just amazing – imm you feel this is going to be so different – and it was. Crews performance entirety of return flt faultless – they were superb. Cruiserette not great traveller so she has bed made up imm and dropped sleeping tablet and out like a light – I settled in to finally enjoy a QFF exp that was what it should be.
Again VCLGD offered on this sector and some rather smart coughs in 5K and 5H belittling that QF don't serve Dom like real airlines do – TBH I prefer VCLGD to Dom – once you get to Dom, Krug, VCLGD, Comtes or Churchill level of Champs on airlines to nit pick this is better then that or why don't you serve this rather than that – IMHO – take your hand off your torpedo!
Anyways I also heard several complaints about QF IFE in that their movie and TV selections always so limited. I always have trouble finding movies / shows I have not seen before so usually BYO – but gotta love QF huh – no other airline offers you the opp to watch Crocodile Dundee every time you fly with them right?
So after couple hours in the air and Cruiserette soundly asleep I was safe to order the steak sandwich accompanied by Leeuwin Estate Art Series CS – I seriously love this wine. Long before the AFF functions at Olive Tree we had so many nts there drinking bottle after bottle after bottle of LEAS – I would book a table for 8 or 10 and Sonia would order in another case of LEAS – those were the days – but I digress.
Steak sandwich was excellent with the LE – it was bliss sitting their totally relaxed – I eventually had to shoo crew away from topping up glass – did I mention this crew were fantastic?
Finally had to sleep and woke for breakfast. Crew came around taking order – I conveyed how 2 previous scrambled egg brekkys inedible – was guaranteed would not be same again. I ordered fruit platter and yoghurt also. Eggs arrived first and my enquiring looks received response they were ready so I did not want them to spoil – ok – eat the eggs on toast first then fruit platter and yoghurt later – no reason why not huh? Eggs were indeed great improvement – quite acceptable – breakfast quite good. Cruiserette did not chance it and has pancakes or waffles or something – said they were good too.
In all this flt was just so different to 2 previous – it was what F should be – quality. I spoke again to CSM when he spoke to each pax pre landing and asked him for crew names – feedback will be sent to QF when I get a chance.
