QF Lounge access flying into PER on CX J; out on QF Dom Y [Denied despite oneworld rules]

As a regular on the PER/SYD red eye, I wonder if the QF staff at reception in their lounges are trained in the rules and in good customer relations. My problem is with the consistency in how the rules are applied. I arrive from PER ( Business Pax) early am, and have a connection with QF link (ECY only) and with a two to three hour lay over, I go to the QF Domestic Lounge, expecting to have a shower and some breakfast. However, there are times when I am denied entry and rather than create a scene, I humbly walk away. I am sure that under the rules, I am entitled to enter the lounge, regardless of my status. There have been times when I have been denied entry with the staff saying that if I were Platinum, there would be no problem. I don't see any point in joining the QF Club when I am already paying for a Business Class bed and expect to gain Lounge entry. I am like many others who face this problem ?

Sounds like there is a massive problem with the PER lounge staff in particular. I would be drawing this to the public's attention on social media. One way of making life uncomfortable for Qantas for its failure to apply its own rules.

I also have a question: I am a Qantas Club Member. I am flying from Sydney to Frankfurt on Qatar Airlines. Can I access the Sydney Qantas Lounge even though I will have a Qatar boarding pass? What about in transit thru Doha in Qatar?

The post you have quoted relates to SYD...

While this is off topic for this thread, the answer is unfortunately ‘no’. Qantas club is not a oneworld benefit (although there are side agreements with AA and EK).

Apologies. Read that as arriving into PER, not from PER. Even worse if it is happening all over the Qantas network.

Though I note that the new Qantas lounge eligibility page no longer says there is lounge access for people connecting to/from international J/F flights.

I'm a bit confused with that story that popped up on the front page. Is it up to a human to decide if you have access to the lounge or not?

I'm gold on Star Alliance (Singapore KrisFlyer). When I show up at a lounge, I typically hand over my boarding pass, they scan it, it shows green and that's the end of it. It's not up to human to understand (or here misunderstand) the rules.

Qantas doesn't have computers?
I was flying QF codeshare on Star Alliance metal. Scanned BP and showed red. Quick discussion with the staff and showed my QP card and was let in.

Unfortunately being a QP member provides no access when flying with another OW partner. I have even had arguments with lounge dragons when flying QF back home from overseas airports ( Johannesburg) where QF use

I've flown BA (not codeshare) as QP and gained lounge access. Flying Iberia in a couple of weeks, again not codeshare. Will I have acess? It's Stuttgart - MAD and I think it is a OW generic lounge.

Used to be in the past that you would be welcomed into selected BA lounges when on a BA flight number, but not anymore unfortunately.

what is more interesting is that the OP's daughter got stopped at the lounge.

Don't you just saunter in like you own the place in these domestic lounges? They don't normally check / scan boarding passes.

It is probably coming up to 7 years now where QP members flying BA haven’t got lounge access

Not the same situation, but I have recently been initially incorrectly denied entry by QF MEL J lounge as QF WP. Arrived from a QF flight from New Zealand and showed the platinum boarding pass but got told no. I had to politely reminded the lounge lady twice the access rule by status and eventually got in.

It all comes down to the staff training. Staff needs to be trained to not only handle the usual cases but all those not so everyday cases.

This is bigger than the PER lounge staff not knowing the rules. The QF social media team don't know the rules either. Management are either oblivious to the problem or are endorsing this behaviour. I'm not quite sure which is actually worse.

My mother in-law and nan flew Qatar airways to Europe a couple months ago from Adelaide , my mother in-law is qantas gold and they got rejected entry into the qantas club as Qatar Isnt oneworld !!! When she politely showed they were , the lounge staff said it’s for only Qatar business class passengers to use this lounge not
economy. When the mother in-law pointed out she was gold they said no and please step a side so we can service other passengers waiting to get in. They ended up at muffin break for 2 hours

This has been going on for years - the rules are complicated, I know that but they should

A. Receive adequate training
B. Should have some monitoring and retraining where necessary

It appears to me that Qantas isn’t prepared to invest the money to do the above and why bother. Most people just suck it up and continue flying Qantas so no downside for them....

I had a variation on this a few years ago - flying out of BNE on Cathay on a ticket booked with QFF points on the Q website and wasn't allowed in the Q Club even though a member of Q Club. Can't remember if they were correct or not but given there were 3 people in the lounge late on a Sat night i would have thought they would look after us. My travelling companion is lifetime QC member. They have no perception of looking after customers.

That is probably the most scandalous story of all. These arrogant power-tripping muppets need to be taught a lesson - the key is to stand your ground, be assertive, and demand to see a manager if they won't see sense. Video recording and photography for future identification of the offender should also be encouraged.
