QF No Longer Printing FF Number on Boarding Passes

Executive Traveller have posted an article about this now. According to that the FF number has been removed for privacy reasons and the change is being progressively rolled out.

AFF put out an article about this yesterday which said exactly the same thing. ;)

Yeah, think it could be a different issue.

Strange thing, it was a classic redemption booking. I had to enter my frequent flyer number to complete it.
Correct because it uses your points, you still have to enter your number!

Good move. Makes sense. No need for FF# on a BP.
If Qantas is truly serious about protecting FF accounts.... please please please... dumpy the useless 4 digit PIN that functions as a highly insecure “password” for account login. Implement proper long, complex password requirements for accounts. Not sure about others but I certainly do not have any payment or CC details stored in my QFF account... not when it’s “protected” by useless PIN.

All other airlines is deal with have standard proper passwords for account login.

This article on the subject appeared in Executive Traveller yesterday:

We try not to give them clicks here :-)

Its here in the home of AFF!:

I think its a sensible idea. I tend to sort my bag out in hotel rooms. Always a bunch of boarding passes in there. I've taken to bringing these home with me, rather than dumping them in the bin. I'd like to think hotel room cleaners, within Australia at least, value their jobs higher than the benefits to be gained from stealing guest information, but you never know.

If QF also delete names from BPs then privacy will be guaranteed - but then security will be compromised absolutely!

They may not have numbers on it but mine has Gold/Emerald on it.Never a problem at BNE,rarely in SYD but always told the way to the QP in MEL.

Two boarding passes printed in SYD today.
No QFF number on either.

Wouldn’t that be gold/sapphire or platinum/emerald?

Yes my BP says gold/emerald.In MEL they only look at the gold and tell me the QP is over there. It is now routine for me to say-Sorry my gold is better than qantas gold.

I've just learnt that all that glitters is not just (QF) Gold...

Well really why do they need any info on the BP at all? Other than flight, date, seat? Sure, status I suppose. Does your name even matter? Other than giving the crew the ability so say "welcome back Mr whatever".

We aren't crazy USA where the TSA compares your name on the BP against the name on your ID - we don't do that thank God.

The crew have the manifest on board anyway - they know who you are.

My point is if we are going to start redacting BPs for privacy we can probably redact a whole lot more!

Perhaps, but I think you'd find a name would be required on a boarding pass. Keep in mind, a boarding pass serves multiple purposes...

Last weeks travel on the same PNR:

QF405 Syd-Mel - No FF# shown on BP
QF79 - MEL-NRT - No FF# shown on BP
QF4024 / JL711 NRT-SIN - FF# shown on JAL issues BP
QF2 - Sin-Syd - FF# show on BP

Trying not to think about this too hard but could this change be an Australian only change as a result of QF signing up to whatever the Australian variant of GDPR?
