Qf Platinum Status Renewal

You have been given complimentary Gold status for another 12 months. Don't know when you last looked at your status page but this normally happens ~8 weeks from reassessment date and is what is commonly referred to as being comped status. There is no hard and fast rule who gets it, why and how often.

FWIW I have been comped Platinum 3 years in a row ~8 before reassessment date but I have managed to make the necessary SCs required each time.

You could be right about the 8 weeks. I don't look at my Summary page all that often and even then I could very easily have missed the "1" in place of the "0". I just thought that Qantas made it clear in writing that you have been "comped". I'm sure I got one for PS about 10 years ago but I also qualified in my own right that year. Maybe they now wait for you to actually fall short before reminding you of their generosity. I should find out in 6 weeks as the chances of me earning 130 SCs is quite remote unless there is a last-minute trip to SEA.

I just chaked my QFF summary today and see that I seem to have been 'comped' fro another year of platinum.

Current Status: Platinum
Status reassessment will occur: 31 Oct 2011
Status credits earned from 01 Nov 2009: 925
Additional Status credits required by 31 Oct 2010 to receive
complimentary 'Partner Gold' membership: 1,175

Reading this thread and others it seems that it is unusual for this to happen after only 1 year as WP (me) & that it may only ever happen once.

I will easily make it to about 1150 SC's by by 31/10/2010 renewal date through planned work travel. If I make a little extra effort and achieve the 1200 SC's needed to retain WP without the comp, will the system register that I retained in my own right, and will that mean I will keep the comp up my sleeve for a future year?

I don't think anyone (who is willing to post!) is able to answer that. It really seems like black magic how the whole system works.

It is believed by some that you are 'uncomped' in this situation - but no-one here really knows (or if they do, they're not saying)

Thanks. Pretty much what I thought the answer would be.

I think it is better to just be happy to have received the benefit, than to spend time and $$$ flying for SC's in an attempt to second guess the system. If there is in fact a system!

It would make sense for QF to have a comp once facility, and if its played but not needed put it on hold for the next year. I have had it twice where I was given it early and did not need it.

Interestingly the last time the following year I did need it to keep SG (at 120SCs for 12 months) but it came through after the anniversary date rather than the more often reported 8 weeks before, I repaid the favor with 2000SCs in 6 months .

I got a complimentary extension of my WP membership earlier this year having only earned 600 credits at that point (2 months before my membership year ended). They simply sent it to me - I didn't ask or anything. I had been a Platinum member for 3 years and did 3500 SCs in the year before my 'low' year.

Also, worth noting that, with the double status credits offer, I took a return to London in the first 3 months of my new membership year this year, and this effectively 'comped' me WP again for a further year, even though I've gone on to Partner Gold so would have made it anyway.

Cheers!

As it turns out I'll end the year with 1215 SC's earned so fingers crossed I'll be "uncomped". I've heard nothing from Qantas about being comped.

A pity we cant know for sure. I've also been comped Velocity Gold via a work arrangement, and with the changes to DJ I plan to try using them more this coming year. But I worry about doing so and falling just short of QF WP.

If I knew that a comp to QF WP was a given it would make it easy to keep both QF WP until 11/2012 & Velocity Gold until 4/2013.

off topic a little

I noticed while reading another thread, someone had QF plat life

I thought that was not possible.

Thank you from a newbie

Welcome to AFF!

QF Platinum life does not exist. Life time gold does and LT Plat does exist in the AA program.

Just to note LT Plat in the AA program is the same as LTG in the QF programs (Oneworld Sapphire status). AA also have no top level (Oneworld Emerald) lifetime status.

thank you for clarifying - I am always trying to keep on top of this sort of thing to decide where best to be loyal - as in, I love lounges (most lounges) = a shower between flights if possible for me is a godsend!

also, thanks for the welcome! :)

No worries! Welcome to AFF also :p

The shower betweens flights (and being able to have one when arriving at the airport in a humid weather country) is what seals the deal for me.

(Officially). There are rumours that it may exist, and be offered to certain VERY loyal customers, but I'm yet to actually meet one... Perhaps meeting Santa Claus might be sooner!

With the number of members here and on FT I seriously doubt it exists.

I do howver now believe that if QF think you may deserve more status to keep you loyal and spending the big $$ you may get offered CL which could be classed as a LTP status.

I however being merely LTS am not holding out for the call from AJ to invite me to the CL.

Yeah I know. It's one of those things, although TBH, the number of CL members who post at either site is very low, so LTP type members may not post either...

I await my call from AJ, but alas - like you - I am stuck at LTS and still a couple of years from LTG at current flying patterns.

I hereby vow to remember all the little people when I reach the CL.;)

I will be more than happy to be LTG in 5 years.

Yep, remember me please :)

With LTG, an early congrats :) You'll get there eventually, as long as they don't change the rules...

I'm more worried that they will change the rules after I get there:shock:

Yep, we are all worried about the new version of LTG - LTN... (Life time nothing). Ansett members are there at the moment, and Qantas could either go broke or change the rules enough to ensure that people feel that way...

Does make me wonder if I should be trying harder to achieve AA LTP... Perhaps that will end up less devalued in that type of situation.
