Re: QF selling more "extra legroom" Y seats - 80A/K,71D & Dom. Exit

Although I don't agree with the move, I can at least understand why QF want to charge for 80A/K, 71D etc as there is at least a real increase in comfort for those seated there.

However, I've just checked my booking for next week on QF23 (SYD-BKK) and they are now charging for 23A/B and 23J/K on the A333 - given the location of the bulkhead and lack of a cut-out to stretch out your legs, I can hardly see how this can be described as an extra legroom seat. You'd have to pay me $90 to sit there.

Re: QF selling more "extra legroom" Y seats - 80A/K,71D & Dom. Exit

Given that this is a Bassinet seat 51 HJK what happens if I purchase the seat and then A parent needs it for a baby do I get a refund. If any of the seats are allocated to Parent and baby? Do I get a refund due to the extra noise that can be associated with a crying baby?

Are you now penalising and charging Parents extra to access a Bassinet seat? If so than that is the lowest of lows in my opinion. It is hard enough as it is for parents travelling with infants.

If you have purchased row 51 and it is needed 'for operational' reasons, Qantas will first attempt to move you to an equivalent seat.

If there is no suitable alternative, you wil be eligible for a refund. But don't expect Qantas to proactively arrange this for you. For some reason, Qantas requires you to fill out a refund request form and submit that. And you must do so within 3 months.

If you are moved on board, I would suggest you get some sort of written evidence that you were required to move, otherwise you might have to try and prove it to Qantas.

One would have thought a refund would have something the cabin crew would proactively arrange for you, but it seems not according to the terms and conditions.

Also, there is no indication what the refund will be. One would assume it would be the full amount you paid... but there could be a secret table somewhere, or there could be IATA regulations that we have no idea about. Qantas does not say you are entitled to a 'full' refund, they just talk about 'a' refund.

A quick analysis of random flights using EF indicates that H&J are blocked, with K selectable. Perhaps 2 are reserved for parents, and K is open slather?

I cannot think of a another premium airline that charges their top-tier FF's to allocation premium seating in Y. BA has a good model of how to do this on a sliding scale (OWE Free/OWS Discounted etc...)

This arrangement is not unique to QF. BA for example requires you to apply for a refund online as refunds cannot be processed at the airport or on board.

so what? Again - this is not a race to the bottom!!

If a passenger is asked to be moved on board, or at check-in, the relevant staff can complete a form and send it in on behalf of the passenger. Just a few clicks on the ipad and all sorted.

This would also allow a quick assessment of whether an appropriate compensation (say 5000 points) could be given. (may not be applicable in all circumstances - such as weight and balance, but might be in other circumstances).

No need to shoot the messenger.

I am not disagreeing the present arrangement could be improved from a customer experience point of view, I am just pointing out that QF isn't alone in this current practice.

Re: QF selling more "extra legroom" Y seats - 80A/K,71D & Dom. Exit

That was a message for QF, who might try to run the argument that it's 'ok' because 'others are dong it'.
Not immediately obvious as your "so what" was directly in response to my post.

Re: QF selling more "extra legroom" Y seats - 80A/K,71D & Dom. Exit

A question to Red Roo and QF.

Rows 80A and k and 71D were generally only available to high tier members such as WP and P1 as a reward and extra comfort when travelling in Y. Given that you are now charging for these does this mean that you no longer are concerned about providing a little extra comfort for what you say are valued customers?

Those seats have been available to anyone in the past; I booked 80A as an NB (but didnt get to sit in it due to a misconnect).

Would make more sense if status pax got the seats for free but non-FF and NB paid for it...as per the AA model.

NBs have to pay to pre-select any seat.

I had the vague impression that the ability of non-status PAX to select those seats was changing all the time in the past 3-4 years...I thought I was just losing it:p

I hadn't noticed, but on the last few A380 flights I've taken, those seats were already occupied (not blocked, I checked EF).

Sounds like the system cannot differentiate between row 23 on a 333 which is cramped & should not be considered an 'extra leg room seat' and row 23 on a 332 which has masses of legroom because it is an exit row.

Re: QF selling more "extra legroom" Y seats - 80A/K,71D & Dom. Exit

So row 51 now also attracts the $180 extra leg room fee...what's next? row 32 upstairs?

and somehow CX gives me exit row seats for free as a QFF:confused:
Bulkhead seats? This is getting beyond a joke.

Has anyone checked if they are also charging for bulkhead seats on 747s?

Just found out about this, wild, my seats (bronze 0 status, never flown outside the US) are still good and at 25AUD each.
Flights booked in July, for end of April to late May.

I am glad they have stuck. Be sure to catch up with the Qlders whilst you are in town.

Going to be staying with a friend in Ipswich, would be interested in meeting anyone there abouts :) and a day or so in Sydney (time constraints but I take what I can get).

I have checked my flights and the bulkhead seats I chose at booking time are still allocated to me. I am crossing my fingers the scheduled aircraft does not change.
