Another angle is to compare the benefits of NB vs WP once on-board the aircraft.

* $25 Seat Selection Fee saving per flight - and that's if you're happy with a "standard" seat.

I cannot think of anything else.....

Don't forget you might get a greeting! Oh wow <swoons>...

Yes, very little benefit in being WP besides F lounge and points upgrades.

Greetings actually piss me off. The few times I have got them and asked for something I wanted, invariably they didnt have it or denied the request (eg, glass of j wine/blanket on a short hop). Also, they usually come as im settling down to sleep or a movie, so whats the point really? Does anyone actually like this personal touch?

I do! I can understand some people don't like the CSM greeting, but I think it's nice to chat a little bit with people who spend even more time in the sky than we do. Some weeks I spend more than 40 hours in a plane in Y, I don't mind a bit of human interaction.

I prefer to get to know them in person from actually flying a lot on their planes. this goes for the individual attendants too. I hated the 'forced' nature of it.

Re: QF selling more "extra legroom" Y seats - 80A/K,71D & Dom. Exit

the hotels had feedback that many of their customers wanted to secure beach chairs ahead of time... and there is no other way of doing that except by charging.

For a fee? *shakes head* They could easily, very easily, do a complementary reservation system....name, room no, how many seats, time .... must arrive within 15 minutes or u lose your beach seat.

Re: QF selling more "extra legroom" Y seats - 80A/K,71D & Dom. Exit

They are a premium airline charging a premium for airfares and have introduced component pricing similar to LCCs.

They weren't losing money because a Platinum was able to pre-select exit row or bulkhead for their flight.

Qantas making this decision has helped me make a decision I did not need to make.

Sorry but I do believe the "they're a business and have to make money" argument trumps the "premium airline/loyalty" argument around here.

Re: QF selling more "extra legroom" Y seats - 80A/K,71D & Dom. Exit

Yeah they can also charge for printing boarding passes, for any piece of luggage, for sitting on any non-middle seats, for any carry-on, lunch, etc, etc, etc. Because they're running a business and profit is king, right?

Red Roo ought to convey to the 'powers that be' that this one is going to cost them quite a bit of loyalty

Yes that is the position of many around here. Especially when I've raise the premium airline thing in the past. Just interesting to see who is switching sides with each enhancement. Please don't ignore the strong possibility of sarcasm in my post. My record goes back to anytime access.

Their most valuable flyers fly in J or F on EK-operated codeshares, so in the scheme of things, this really doesn't matter much.

True, more incentive to book EK internationally, chance of opup high, and most likely easier to obtain free extra legroom or bulkhead seat if required.

it's amazing. All these passengers supposedly willing to pay $180 each way for (non)extra legroom seats, but there's aboslutely positively no demand for a premium economy offering?

yes - that was actually my point :) I was mimicking Qantas' reply. QF says the only way to accommodate people wanting extra legroom seats is to charge for them (which is total spin, they could do it for free).

LOL medhead.

What's next? Charge to use airport check-in? Charge to print boarding pass? Check luggage? As a status flyer you get lounge access but have to pay a surcharge for entry to the lounge? Charge for a meal on board? Charge for drinks on board?

Component pricing is something that works for LCCs. Qantas is opening a can of worms.

Well he has been trying to turn Qantas into Jetstar since his arrival!!

I'll just fly VA more. You know that rubbish LCC airline that you hate so much. Recently did a survey that showed my flight with VA increase about 25% between 2013 and 2014. Qantas at least asked me why that happened as the follow up question.

Didn't you see that coin machine at the boarding gate? One where you have to put a gold coin in before it would read your boarding pass? ;)

We all know that. Not sure why the board and shareholders have allowed this little charade to continue.

Re: QF selling more "extra legroom" Y seats - 80A/K,71D & Dom. Exit

Just checked my flight back to Melbourne from Perth Sunday and see that I have been bumped from my exit row - this lot of flights were booked early September and I had selected exit rows for all my flights - I lost my exit row 3 days out from my trip to Perth on 17th Nov and now 3 days out my return one has gone too.

Pretty pissed off. I am only Silver but have had those seats on 7-8 trips in the last 4 months - all of a sudden my first trip after they started charging - gone. Not happy Jan.

Re: QF selling more "extra legroom" Y seats - 80A/K,71D & Dom. Exit

if you have reserved your seat they be able to keep it, if not QF shouldn't allow you to select it
