QF to Haneda

According to AusBT, the BNE flights are to NRT. I can only assume then that the HND service will go to SYD. See Qantas to start Brisbane-Tokyo flights - Australian Business Traveller

From The Australian

QANTAS will start flying from Brisbane to Tokyo’s Narita airport and will launch a new daily Sydney-Haneda Boeing 747 service as it expands its services to Japan next year by 4000 seats per week.
The daily service to Haneda, which is closer to Tokyo’s CBD, starts July 30 and is expected to be popular with business travellers. It comes after a previously announced breakthrough deal to get peak slots at the airport.
The airline will fly a four-times weekly Airbus A330 services from Brisbane to Narita from August 1 with three remaining weekly services to fly from an as yet unannounced second port, possibly Melbourne.
Fares for both services will be on sale progressively this week with launch fares for Brisbane-Narita starting at $899 return and available from December 12.

A second port to NRT? Well well. That was unexpected. Well done QF. You have managed to surprise me.

My reference to second port was second in addition to BNE. See the article snippet by Brettmcg:

Good to see more QF routes. Having flown on QF21 last week, and having watched HND from Tokyo Tower, I was wondering why QF even flew into NRT.

Any idea why the Brisbane flight lands in NRT instead of HND?

Suspect so.
Presuming the 'other' port will be MEL, with PER an outside chance.

Uber exciting news..... And now doubt this will drive business & tourism between Brisbane & Japan even closer.

I wonder if JQ will get culled on the NRT > OOL sector, considering OOL lost services to KIX last year ?

On Brisbane-Narita services. From Latest Qantas News

Flights depart Brisbane Mon/Wed/Fri/Sat whilst flights depart Narita Tue/Thu/Fri/Sun.

Therefore the new flights will operate a BNE-NRT-(TBD)-NRT-BNE pattern, except on Friday where flights operate BNE-NRT-BNE.

Could something like the following work?

Melbourne 1010/Narita 1930 - Tue/Thu/Sun
Narita 2055/Melbourne 0825+1 - Mon/Wed/Sat

EDIT - given the alternating schedule, could we see something like the following given that JAL has said it may expand operations into Australia? QF and JL have previously code-shared in the past, and the 763 with the flat bed product could be well suited to thinner routes into Australia.

Narita 2055/Melbourne 0825+1 - QF on Mon/Wed/Sat, JL on Tues/Thurs/Fri/Sun
Melbourne 1010/Narita 1930 - QF on Tue/Thu/Sun, JL on Mon/Wed/Fri/Sat

This is exciting news. As I said I don't care whether its NRT or HND. In fact it is better they use A330 with the new business class suite than the old 747 with Skybed MKII.

Let's hope they will release more award space on the business class!

Not QF's choice. For many years after the opening of NRT, the Japanese government decreed that all international flights were to use NRT, with HND used for domestic only. In recent years, this has been slowly wound back.

The day flight to NRT probably means it will be too late for Jetstar Japan connections on the same day, forcing an overnight.

Not that necessarily any of us are hankering for Jetstar but just saying.

The day time flight BNE-NRT is really great news. Now will be able to take this flight as we are used to overnighting at NRT or spending time in Japan before flying somewhere else.
Now to rebook our September trip.

HND was the international airport for Tokyo until 1978 when NRT opened and HND was closed to international flights (with the exception of Taiwan carrier flights until 2002). In 2003, they allowed "scheduled charter" flights to cities in North and East Asia which were within the same range of the longest domestic Japan flight from HND. It was reopened to international flights between 10pm and 7am in Oct 2010 and added long haul day flights from March 2014 after the international terminal extension opened.
