Khawaja just hit a magnificent 6 and a single to get his half century, nice catch in the crowd from the 6 about 140m from me.

I'm trying to remember the last time we were 1/235 on Day 1 of a Test. Happy days, I think I'll have another beer :D

I certainly can't recall it happening at the Gabba since Langer/Hayden/Ponting days.

Warner and Rogers did put on 200 for the first wicket on day 1 against in Sydney earlier this year, then both got out within a couple of overs.

Oops, forgot to post the shots of retired Australuan Cricketer Ryan Harris doing a lap of the Gabba and some random other shots:

That would be Mark Taylor

Okay, something wrong with my external batteries - both are dead and I have 11% battery life - better bring the charger tomorrow

Living the life!

Which reminds me about the cricket pitch. Not that long ago we were whinging about flat decks. It must be different when you are playing at home?

There's plenty of grass on the pitch and certainly something in it for the seamers if they bowl well (as is usually the case at the Gabba). NZ have bowled poorly.

The next ball, Warmer gets out for 163, just 3 short of his highest test score. 2/324

Steve Smith in and promptly dispatches to the boundary

Well there has been a 3 hour thunderstorm as whilst the lightening and thunder have abated, the rain is still pattering down...

It was like that 2 days ago and the next day you wouldn't have known it. Weather is so unpredictable here. I panic everytime I hire a car.

Well the dawn of Day 2 and whilst it's overcast, on the northside the rain stopped around midnight. Quite an intense storm that moved south to north, so I presume the ground staff had organised the covers to withstand the deluge. Will see when I make it there this morning.

Gosh. Just passing the Gabba. Plenty of fans already arriving
