Thanks everyone, as usual the info I was after was already posted. I've selected 43A,C and hoping for a shadow. With over 4 weeks till departure I'm optimistic.
You have this configuration: http://www.qantas.com.au/infodetail/flying/inTheAir/ourAircraft/744-56J40PY275Y.pdfHi folks - I've got a front row seat in Y (38A) selected on an upcoming 3-class QF5, and was wondering if there is any chance this would be a refurbished 744... Are all the refurbs going to have Y starting at row 43? Been looking for an easy to decipher guide to determining "Is my QF bird a refurb?", but seems it is a little hard to find one. Maybe my search skills have been 'enhanced'?

That is the only non refurbished 744 configuration Qantas have these days.

puppysparkes - can you come back with what happens re the shadow please? SWMBO and I (both WP's) have pre-selected 43A and 43B on QF5 next April but would change to 43A and 43C and hope that 43B becomes a shadow if that is what happens. Won't risk it otherwise.
Thanks
No problem I'll update on 12/10.

If it were me, I'd take the chance and grab the A and C seats. Worst case scenario and someone is in B, offer them either A or C to swap with. Highly unlikely anyone in B would refuse such an offer. Also, someone is much more likely to grab C if it is available than B.
My 2 cents

The tray table being stored in the armrests in the aisle side ensures the armrests in the triple seats are fixed.
Perhaps some of the central ones are (E/F) not, but at most this would give a pair.
These are bassinet seats.I'd like to try for 43E/F but they're currently not showing as available (I'm WP). Have settled for 43H, but will check closer to departure time.

yes..ALL of row 46 (A to K) is pay for exit row seating as there is no 'seperate' walk thru area from the left toilet to the right toilet. note on the seatmap on QANTAS.com these seats have a red band on them denoting them as exit seating.... but for me at 6' 43C/H or 43D/G(hope for no bubs) would be the go. 46D/G look interesting ....
