I have a feeling OQH could be spending Xmas in Baku.
Christmas in Baku. I don't know if that's the title of a horror or mystery story!I have a feeling OQH could be spending Xmas in Baku.
Yerevan is not in RussiaBut perhaps Yerevan (EVN) would have been more suitable. Has 3850x56m runway and "is capable of accepting Airbus 380...".
Looks like it was nearer to EVN, but maybe a political thing? Russia vs Islamic dictator? Or don't these kind of things count?
No they won’t.Whoever is on that flight must be might happy since they'll be receiving UK261 compensation!

No they won’t.
It only applies to non EU/UK airlines departing from the EU/UK
There’s no responsibility for QF to pay this inbound to LHR
Nup!
UK261 only applies to Qantas PAX for flights departing the UK.
In any event, I don't I'd be "mighty happy" to receive compensation for arriving at 7pm on Dec 25 instead of 7am .
Jump in the ops centre and I can assure you it’s a 10 in terms of trying to facilitate the whole thing. It’s not easy when you are relying on airport management etc to deal with it first up and start the dialogue with the company. The passengers will probably be in the airport until sunset before they can reach a hotel. Sorting out Visa’s will be a nightmare, as seen in that Singapore example. We are watching how Qantas deals with their problem. Not sure if the level of difficulty is beyond an 8 in getting the passengers to London. Everyone has plans around Christmas.
QR and S7 both have regular flights into GYDOneWorld for that matter) doesn't have any presence in this part of the world.
Australians can get an e-visa in advance or apply at the airport (I did the lattter)I don't know the entry rules for Azerbaijan
My daughters have been following this story and reminded us that last Christmas we left Australia for London on Dec 18th as we weren’t feeling lucky about getting there. We are watching how Qantas deals with their problem. Yet knowing the reason for the delay would you really complain?
Absolute nightmare stuff to be in operations. Worst time of year for something like this to boot. Glad I'm not dealing with it. My head hurts thinking about just the few options I can come up with sitting here.Jump in the ops centre and I can assure you it’s a 10 in terms of trying to facilitate the whole thing. The media will give them a belting no doubt, however what is the easy way out of these things?

Yes. But sending a new crew in isn't always the best/fastest option. Giving crew the required rest and then out of there is more likely to be quicker, assuming the aircraft is serviceable.Crew would be out of hours would they not?
Sending in a new crew from LHR seems challenging considering the lack of direct flights into this place.

Thanks, sorry I missed the Saturday bit, was still thinking it was a same day departure. If rescheduled to dep at 22:30 Saturday, given that I post this at 14:50 Friday, Baku time, one perhaps would think by then they wouldn't be out of hours
