I realise these are not all that uncommon but this is the first I can recall ever having experienced.

Half-dozing, but still managing glances out the window from a middle seat in J, just cruising in to land, seemed like maybe 200' elevation or so (but that could be a poor estimate), then out of the blue could hear and feel a significant boost to engine power, and we were suddenly pointing back upwards again. I twigged straight away as to what was happening but it still came as a surprise. My stepfather was watching it from the ground and commented that he thought it looked like maybe 20' elevation when it happened but it was definitely way more than that.

A couple of minutes later the FO (I think) came over the PA to explain it. Very limited info, something along the lines of "we just did a go-around, which was required due to our position on the approach" - a little vague, perhaps they just got the initial approach a little wrong? I've no idea, but after a few more minutes we landed OK.

I am guessing the aircraft in front delayed on the runway, either departing or after landing.

We had to do an orbit on short finals on my last CX flight into MEL, due to (as the captain stated) "ATC thinking we were a lighty and not an A330" :)

Only happened to me once coming into SYD, in a QF 767. The pilot was super annoyed too when he came on the PA. Apparently the plane in front had slowed down too much and we had encroached upon its space/separation distance.
We were landing heading south and were just above the shipping containers when he gunned it.
