QFF Ideas & Suggestions

I guess I looked at it from the view of who would want to sit in a middle seat, when there's aisle/window seats available. May I ask why you like middle seats (I'm not going to pass judgement, just curious as I know I love my space when in cattle class ;))?

I want to get off the plane as quickly as possible. My first year of WP was when I had to fly 45 weeks out of the year - pretty much all during morning or evening peak. Getting off the plane (and getting to my taxi) became far more important than a bit of extra space. :)

Also, when travelling with colleagues, everyone typically waited for the last person off the flight. I didn't want to be that person :)

Welcome to AFF!

I just wanted to point out that usually they’re very good with sending out new cards, just with the new technology in the cards and bag tags there have been some delays. I’m sure in the future though it’ll be just like normal.

....it'll be just like normal. Isn't that what we're all afraid about?

I would most like to see confirmed upgrades at the time of booking. I have no wish to play seat-lotto, especially on a long leg. And I would rather have upgrade credits than bonus points.

2 cents worth.

I recently achieved the dizzy heights of Platinum on QF and my observations of my treatment at that level is ..................... absolutely no difference! The Asian airlines (Singapore and Cathay) really do value it's elite passengers eg greeting them individually on board, calling them by their names etc. Some suggestions:

  • Upgrades to recognise your tier
  • Prompt sending out of membership cards once you change tier
  • Special QF offers by tier
  • Special associated rewards with third parties eg hotels

I can't speak for CX, but I know that SQ certainly doesn't do that much for its elite passengers, and certainly not points 1/3/4 above (well, not specifically for elites).

I know quite a few PPS in Singapore, and they are always complaining about the lack of benefits on SQ. And PPS means you are flying C/F (aka J/F) on SQ only.

Upgrade Credits were great. It was a very good way of differentiating between frequent flyer benefits vs frequent shopper benefits (and yes, I know you have to fly to get loyalty bonuses, but with the amount of promos Woolworths/Safeway have going, you can earn 5k points very easily every few months without stepping foot on a plane). 5,000 points is nothing. I get that from my Credit Cards every month or two.

OpUps, whilst a rare beast, should reward loyal flyers. I've been fortunate enough to receive several in the past years, but there are many who have not (one in particular ;)).

Seat blocking is another huge thing that Altea should be able to handle well yet never ceases to amaze me in its stupidity. I've often been in the front few rows of economy to have someone sit in the middle seat of a 763, yet have rows way back further empty in the middle. I understand aircraft trim requirements, but this is silly. I've noticed what we're coining the 'WP Shadow' which seems to auto-block seats for WP's where space is available, but the airport staff must love seating random people anywhere and paying no attention to status of pax they're putting someone next to.

+1
I agree totally.

5k "loyalty bonus" is a joke and can be earned in a matter of months. Loyalty? That word is really starting to wear out these days.

Seat Blocking, in my books, the next best thing to an upgrade. I had this recently on a PER-SYD sector. I think that the system is getting better because it looked as if all the status pax were up the front with spares next to them while the second half of whY was choc-a-block. I tried to look at as many BP's, and they all seemed to have WP or SG on the ones l did get a glimpse off.

I agree. Most of our travel is overseas to Europe or Asia and we normally buy coach tickets and use points to upgrade to business or first. I don't think I have ever been able to get a redemption seat or upgrade into Asia with QF. Their policy for using points to upgrade is also terrible especially the "no confirmation until 24 hours before flight" rule

I now only use SIA and EF and find their policies easy and flexible. if there is a seat you get it. Many of our friends now fly EF to Europe for this reason. Qantas should take note

by the way - anyone looked at Qatar business flights out of Denpasar. $3200 business return to Paris. Add the Oz/Bali flight and whacko - cheapest business flights to Europe going. Bali is a throw in

After just spending 30 minutes waiting for a bus at mascot. How about making the staff bus from Building C to the airport available at say 2100 SC odd. That would be a stretch target for me and I'd make sure I got to it. ;)

I would like to see the International First Lounge and the Domestic Business Class Lounges available to Life Time Gold Members, no matter what Class they fly. This would be a huge incentive for those travellors who due to age or health cut back on their travel, but have been loyal for many years to maintain Platinum and then reach Life Time Gold.

That’s an interesting suggestion. I’d say, offer that or offer LTP ;)

This is a great suggestion. I would love to have that waiting for me upon retirement, and I would definitely strive to get the SC required for it.
Red Roo are you still listening?

PPS always had my seat booked and sent me gifts etc. I thought they did a good job. No problems. That was a few years ago though.

I have been a Qantas FF since 1994, before have flown with them when they were Trans Australian (gee I've dated myself), when FF did not exist.

In looking back I can recall massive changes Qantas has undergone. Once they were the Australian people's airline and showed they were keen to keep their pax's happy, although in those days the airfare was pretty horrific, they were friendly, fair and decent in their business procedures, nowadays it is a sad picture. But then again, its not just Qantas, the world itself has become a sad picture of decline, greed, power and lust for money.

Gripes:
1. I have family living some distance away from me and often, inconveniently, have to get a quick airfare to either BNE, PER, TYO and LHR. You know how much that costs.....yikes, so what do I do, I look for another fare on another carrier that is cheaper. This is one area that QF needs to look at and not be so greedy just because it is not an advance fare. Even my points don't help much. The amount of points I have is more to lose, than the cheapest fare. I may as well save that for an international fare later. How many Qantas FF are affected by this daily? A QFF should be cared for like a hen its chickens.
2. Food on the domestic legs at varying times of the day is not what I call worth eating. I don't fancy those big fat Byron Bay cookies, nor do I fancy the strange "toasted sandwich that looked like a quiche with caramelised onion"..I guess Neil Perry does not look at the economy side of the domestic airline sector kitchens.
Some years ago, actually 1973, Lufthansa had a stand with food packs in it, which you picked up as you boarded on a domestic flight. (it had orange juice, sandwich and cheese snacks). This sounds like a good idea for this day and age and easy to implement for the domestic flights. But I know a lot of people would not even like the idea.
3. If you are a member of another One World Carrier, the points between should show up on their system too. Saves the hassles when the points are'nt registered on your flight details that you have to keep all the paperwork and write to them or try to get it updated.
4. I have hotel membership with Accor, Rydges, Priority etc, but because I am conscious of cost and running a business, I don't pick the highest priced roomrate, therefore, no points are awarded towards the QFF program. Not a good way to keep one's loyalty to Qantas (or any carrier) because of this. All partnerships should attract points. I paid for Accor accommodation night 40 or more times last year and no points were valid as they were under the allowable to attract such for QFF.(Add that amount up over the year). Its all about money.
5. The charges for: insurance, exit seat row, carbon offset, fuel surcharge are really just a money grabbing exercise and should not be part of an ethical and decent business' policy. But that is the way the world is going, just an excuse to make money (no different to the Banks).
6. Having to do a fair amount of international travel I have had enough of the airports, the check ins, the queues, customs, barriers to get through etc...I particulary detest those who have caused all these problems for decent air travellers, I dislike Australian customs who treat you as an alien. I would cite Narita, and Singapore as excellent examples of user friendly airports. You would think Qantas would have a say in this as the first impression for a visitor is the Qantas (or whatever airline) check-in.
7. What I do like..... I must say that, to me, Qantas is an"impression" airline. It has a look of class, style and status. To me, this holds a much better picture with its airline staff and their expertise compared to Virgin and Jetstar. Compare the uniforms, then look at the staff. Sure Qantas has some older "hosties" compared to the dolly-birds on Virgin and Jetstar, but to me, it all comes down to service and experience. Its the experience that Qantas has above all other airlines and I have flown with a lot of carriers. In any event that can happen where one is tested as to experience and skill, I would rather be on Qantas than any other carrier on earth.

Thats my bit for what you can extract from it.

In light of the removal of anytime access for WP, surely there's scope to introduce a Lifetime Platinum offer (noting some similar already mentioned in this thread).

Coffee in the plebs lounge at Sydney, could do better. Buy some new coffee machines.

How about supporting small business? People who work for big corporates get to fly business and get stacks of points. My clients can't afford this, I fly economy and get less points. I used to be Platinum but lost it, I fly the same miles, but economy, so get treated badly. Due to rule changes my Gold is now under threat. Not impressed after a lifetime of loyalty to Qantas. Some recognition for all these years of loyalty would be good, some understanding that I would prefer to fly first class but don't work for a bank. I got really narked when you kept advertising the new first class lounge, I don't have access to it.

Also I have to put up with kids screaming around the place in the Sydney lounge, why don't you make them go somewhere else?

Bring back lounge access for Gold & Plat when not flying Qantas - you don't fly to all destinations which means some times we will need to fly with other airlines regardless of how loyal to QF we are.

Luggage - reduction to 1 piece per pax is not good. I often have equipment that needs to be checked in and while small and light, means lots of hassle with the new rules.

Upgrade to Premium Economy for a reasonable amount at time of booking (Gold and Platinum) - KLM do this for around 50 Euros on long haul flights and is available online at time of booking.

Free exit row seats for Gold & Plat on international flights... they are often empty now as you can't even book and pay during the original ticket purchase... the extra booking step is really pointless.

Fix your website so that all flights are visible (like they were 12 months ago). MLB-AKL for example now does not show routes via SYD and BNE, just no availability meaning I now need to book through a travel agent to get seats during busy periods.

JQ - queues are a nightmare.... priority for Silver, Gold, Plat is needed urgently. 40-60 min wait times are not uncommon in Melbourne.

I agree. Good suggestion.

I like the idea that LT status offers more than the yearly levels.

Perhaps LTS could come with 2 lounge entries each year, LTG could have some features of WP.

As it takes 6 years of Plat to get LTS and a further 6 years to get LTG I feel these levels should be rewarded.

Not being critical but interested to hear how this would work.

- So would a bronze be able to sit at the front of economy while high status flyers sit down the back?
- Should op-ups be given to Bronze first and then Silver, Gold and Platinum?

I can see a lot of high status flyers getting extremely upset and once a year bronze travellers to remain well once a year bronze travellers but with much better benefits.

What is the difference between the front of economy and the back? It's still economy, isn't it? Note I said that "in addition to", not "instead of" higher rated flyers.

It's pure business - if you already have clearly loyal customers, shouldn't your aim be to gain more? Considering those loyal ones are still loyal, no matter if they get upgrades or not?

All these 'loyal', 'higher status' flyers already have the opportunity to gain more FF points which would enable them to access upgrades using points. Your average Joe does not have this option.

I think any paying passenger should have the chance at an upgrade.
