QFF Ideas & Suggestions

The domestic Qantas Clubs are a waste of space. With the design of most airports, you are better off sitting in one of the cafes around the airport enjoying a decent cappuccino. Less crowds, better coffee.

Sorry; but I can't agree with this.

The last time I flew with DJ I sat in the plastic seats in SYD. Tried to do some work but gave up (uncomfortable, noise, screaming kids, etc.). Even compared to the T2 QP (which is very poor by comparison with others) the plebs area is an insult (IMHO).

Re SYD-CBR 734's and the pollies - I can't see why they can't fly Y for such a short leg.

P.S. I haven't received any invitations for the survey, oh well, so be it.

Seconded. I can't being amongst the great unwashed in most terminals - there's just no private space, decent access to power and comfortable seats. Add in the crying, screaming and uncontrolled children, uncouth parents etc - give me a club lounge any day of the week and twice on Sundays.

Agree totally but last week in the SYD J lounge one little precious princess was giving a lot of people there the absolute (insert word here) by her yelling, screaming, ballet and athletic training around the lounge much to her parents' pride and delight.

Staff could have had a quiet word with parents. It wouldn't have cost anything and have made the place much more pleasant for anyone within 50 metres. Pity it's necessary though.

I'd be so embarrassed and annoyed at my daughter if she did that! Luckily she is an angel in the lounge..

The Perth QP at 2PM today was a joke. Full of fly in, fly out miners, guzzling beers, and no space to sit as they cluster the tables and chairs together.

I did a google search and found that QF announced they were opening a J Lounge. What happened to it?

I have spent far too much time in the QF PER lounge, and the miners there are shocking. They will order up 3 lots of drinks each at a time, and go back every 10 minutes to "refuel".

They also as you say, cluster the tables together to ensure no one else can get a seat.

I do like the several new benches now. Makes it easier for me as i'm quite happy to site with power for laptop at a bench. They're also fairly close to the bar so I can get a drink and keep an eye on my laptop at the same time.

So are people looking at a J lounge in PER or just a miners lounge, if its the latter I think you will see it before you see a J lounge, and it will be in the GA area.

They seem harmless enough, but I'm certain the Responsible Service of Alcohol requirements weren't being met. Is it true that some of their flights are dry? No wonder they get drunk in the lounge prior.

I was able to find somewhere to sit, but I felt awful for older couples, who clearly needed chairs due to mobility issues, and the miners simply couldn't care less. I ended up leaving the lounge early to give my seat away.

I would have thought given that it is one of the longest domestic routes, that a J Lounge would be a priority.

Some technical suggestions I have for QF...

- Would like to be able to use the multi-city took to book premium economy.
- The ability to link online bookings online, without having to call.

After struggling to keep up with the pace of this thread for some weeks I have finally caught up with all the good ideas and would like to throw in my 2c worth.

My main suggestion is that elite status should be based on EITHER SC's OR sectors flown (similar to AAdvantage). I kinow the benefits vs costs have been debated on other threads here so I won't repeat them. I just note that for AAdvantage:
Elite Status Benefits

AAdvantage Executive Platinum® (oneworld® Satus Emerald) to qualify you require the following in a calendar year: 100,000 miles OR 100,000 points OR 100 segments.
Gold equivant is 50,000 miles OR 50,000 points OR 60 segments.

Now, it seems to me that someone who flys 100 segments (including QF, JQ & QL) is being loyal to Qantas; and while it may not bring as much revenue to Q as a few SYD-LHR-SYD trips, it is loyalty after all.

Also,
  • +1 for the Jetstar SC's (I wrote to QFF a couple of years go suggesting this and received a courteous but definitive "no"). Good to see how many others share my view.
  • How about JQ Club access @ OOL for Gold and QC members? Why should residents of the Gold Coast have to join 2 lounge clubs? After all, there is no JQ Club in SYD or MEL; or do JQ members get access to the QClubs?
  • How about the 1,400 SC's required to qualify for WP (or 700 for gold, etc.) being based on any 12 month period? In my own case (we all speak from expeience), I accrued the 1,400 SC's over a nine/ten month period but as my anniversary date fell in the middle, I've had to wait another nine months to qualify. Once achieved, the "review date" could reset to the anniversary of the date you qualified for that higher status level. I think QF could progrm the computer to handle something like this without too much trouble.
Lots of other good ideas from members; I also welcome Red Roo to this site and thank them for their interest.

Aah, but what gives you the idea that miners aren't Platinum and hence eligible to access the J lounge anyway? :)

Is the JQ Club actually active? All I’ve heard is that it’s still coming but hasn’t actually progressed anywhere. Seems a little useless with just one lounge offering. Discounting the fact they have two NZ lounges for access, but they don’t own them.

I too would hope however, that reciprocal access between the eventual differing clubs could be provided, but doubt that this would be offered for anything other than Platinums, and that’s if they were feeling generous.

If that were the case, the Qantas Club would be quieter. I'd be happy to trade off the NPPP's for a quieter lounge :)

I'm guesstimating (based on nothing more than glancing at boarding passes and luggage tags) that the majority of the FIFO workers are SG. I may be wrong, but that's just my observation.

It'd be nice to see rolling 12 months of status credits eligibility.

It seems a bit sucky that there's a hard cut off.

e.g. for me, I earned 160 SC's flying International in June, and I'm going to lose them at the end of January. Why can't I lose them 12 months after I earned them.

That'd give me a better chance of actually ever getting off of NB (I don't fly all that much). Of course I'm looking at this from my own point of view, but I just figure it's hardly fair for example if one earns lots of SC's just before a cut-off, then just after the cut-off, and doesn't end up getting the next level because their flights just didn't happen to occur at a favourable time.

2 if you count the CNS international JQ lounge. But then they don't own that either - I think.

Really? I have been refused service in the BNE Business Lounge after ordering 3-4 beers in a short space of time. I moved across to the Qantas Lounge next door and had another couple of beers.

They are obviously not policing the responsible service of alcohol laws consistently.

I did have a rant one day in a post here about PER. The 'standard pour' of spirits there is 15ml, where a standard drink (in the eyes of RSA etc) is 30ml of spirits.

I used to frequently order a scotch and dry, and a scotch neat. Most staff would smile knowing what I was doing (ie, getting a SINGLE drink) but one guy said 'if you're going to just pour this in I can't we are not allowed to serve doubles'. I had a huge go at him (politely at first) stating they were 15ml so he was not, but he didn't budge. I then proceeded to self-administer the Sav Blanc they had at self-service, and polish off a bottle in the 90 minutes I was there. He was not impressed, but did not stop me.

QP PER staff are generally bad (the lounge staff, not the service desk, i've always found them to be fine). They seem to put the disgruntled soon-to-be-retired FA's there or something, as they're often older people who seem hell bent on denying anything 'outside the rules'.

Once again, no consistency. QF business as usual unfortunately.
