QFF Ideas & Suggestions

I think the personal item is no longer included. The website now only mentions 2x105cm or etc.
It's simply not mentioned on the web site. However I have seen people utilise it as recently as last month.

I certainly do not recommend it as it's rather impractical to handle 2 x 105cm bags as well as 'the personal item'.

However, I was pulled once for having 3 items, a 105cm roller, a briefcase size bag and a small conference backpack containing only a laptop. The backpack being the size of a medium sized handbag but thinner. Based on that experience I now carry 2 bags the 105cm roller and about a 90cm CAT bag that contains the briefcase sized bag and the laptop. An arrangement that is much harder to stow. as the CAT bag is that bit too big for comfortable underseat stowing (except in row 4) whereas the other way I could easily put the 2 small bags under the seat or squeezed into the overhead.

A big change that I'd like to see is that the personal item is formally mentioned as the 3 items I carried are easier to deal with and take less overhead space.

I got pulled for just 2 items once and one of them was a completely empty backpack for a later trip. They tried to get me to shoehorn it into my luggage. After messing me about I end up having to unpack it inboard because the luggage is now buldging and won't fit in the bins. Didn't even have to in front of me in row 4, just slid down the side of the seat.

Ideally have no luggage and board last. Don't check in luggage to save time. Just own an apartment full of everything at your destination. I do seriously go for the personal item only, board last approach.

IME QF staff do well to adapt to the situation, being strict on busier flights. Priority boarding would keep us happy though.

Should be an interesting month or so ahead as the new baggage restrictions come into play for tickets purchased from tomorrow.

Just to clarify, the policy takes effect from 1 June 2011 for tickets booked from 1 December 2010 - predominantly a domestic change (some flow on for international).

Recently there has been a lot of discussion about QFF here, with a number of interesting suggestions raised. To follow on from this theme, I'd like to ask for your ideas.

How would you improve Qantas Frequent Flyer and how could the program encourage you to fly more with us?

This is a pretty diverse community, across all tiers, with a variety of domestic/international network flyers and airlines flown. There's no shortage of knowledge and creativity here, so look forward to an interesting discussion.

Thanks and have a good weekend.

To me, this thread is no way looks like a discussion. It seems to be a one way street.

Hi Red Roo

Any comments on all of the suggestions?

I'm not bothering with this thread unless there is more dialogue from Red Roo. I encourage other members to hold back with any more future ideas or "enhancements" to the QFF program until Red Roo can shed some light on what has actually been discussed at QF (ie, any ideas that are; rubbish/maybe or no) or give us some sort of progress/project update.

QF does not strike me as the sort of business that will react without a fair bit of analysis. I don't know enough about DJ, but reading the posts in the DJ section here the use of forums like this seems to be natural for them.

I hope that feedback here will lead to genuine enhancements, not the Neil Perry ones, but I suspect we might have to wait a while for something to happen. (I'd be very happy for Red Roo to prove me wrong on this.)

...err the waiting that is not the Neil Perry "enhancements"!!!!!!

Ok, looks athough RedRoo and Qantas are listening, and know there are some issues. I received this email a little while ago

"Qantas is conducting a significant phase of research to understand how customers use the Qantas Frequent Flyer program and what opportunities there are to improve the offer. As a valued Qantas Frequent Flyer and member of our Customer Advisory Panel, we would like your input in this important research.

As part of this project, Qantas has commissioned Ergo to conduct a detailed survey of members' behaviour, needs and attitudes. As loyalty programs are complex and offer a wide range of benefits, so too the questionnaire is wide ranging, and therefore may take 30-45 minutes to complete, depending on the type of travel you do."

Their time estimate is just about spot on. Questions seem to be based largely on the sort of ideas and discussion in this thread.

Survey results would be fascinating to see (although I guess that will never happen) - we can only hope for outcomes.

As you can see, we are undertaking some research in the loyalty space and we're investigating a number of ideas, including a number of your suggestions raised here on AFF, to see how we can improve Qantas Frequent Flyer.

There have been a number of ideas of interest, which we are testing across the broader QFF membership base via market research, database analytics and other channels. Again, I'd just like to reiterate that we do appreciate your feedback via this thread and you can see how we have incorporated it in our research.

In advance, I'd like to thank our Customer Advisory Panel Members for your time in completing the survey, I know that our Members here are very passionate and will place a lot of thought in their responses.

Just a little more feedback Red Roo, to ad to my previous....
i've just booked 3 X return adults to KL with Malaysian Airlines, not the cheap tickets either, and MH have already done my upgrades for both flights. so that's me gone unless you improve the upgrade situation, and we fly at least twice a year.

Red Roo, I have to admit, I am surprised. Pretty much everything discussed/requested here (other than NPPP's) was bought into the survey. Lets see what comes from it.

For the others here, it is soooooo long it is hard to remember everything, but things that were put in the mix, iincluded but certainly wasn't limited to; a higher level than WP, LTP at 28000 SC's, complimentry choice of exit row, more points, more SC's, better burn, different options at 2400SC. One thing I don't recall was anytime access to the lounges though I stand to be corrected from others

Lounges got very little mention.

The survey was long:shock:....no mention of "anytime access" loss. Some ideas that I can remember being surveyed: confirmed upgrades at time of booking, more seat upgrade and award availability for Plats, a very high tier level ? higher than Plat, QF might be joining Myer One as had a few Qs about this card, complimentary upgrades for domestic flights for plats, waiving of phone fees for plats, complimentary blocked seat next to you / exit row seats for plats....that's all I can remember for now!

Yes agree. access to lounge is part of the whole front end of the plane bit too. might as well sit in the lounge for longer, especially when you see the line-up to get on the A380.

Allow me to respond to one more OT post, but do appreciate the efforts to keep this FF related.

Understand your view. We do have quite a few 738's on order, which will help retire 734's from the fleet and you'll see some movements from next year.

Sorry to talk OT; but the 734's are not up to today's standard so why not "change" them back to all Y and use them on sectors where the demand for J is low? For that matter, you could rebadge them as QL so there is no unmet expectation (after all, QL run their 717's as all Y flights).

How else are they gonna cart 20 J pax on the one 737 flight between CBR and SYD when Parliament Sits/Rises?

I particulary detest those who have caused all these problems for decent air travellers, I dislike Australian customs who treat you as an alien. I would cite Narita, and Singapore as excellent examples of user friendly airports. You would think Qantas would have a say in this as the first impression for a visitor is the Qantas (or whatever airline) check-in.

Not sure that this is Q's problem; but I agree with your comments. On a recent RTW Mrs JV & I passed through approx 20 airports and Sydney Immigration & Customs wee without doubt the rudest bunch we had to deal with; even La Habana were far more friendlier!

Good point; but if I had paid for a J seat out of my own pocket and got the 734 experience I would consider my money wasted. The answer is to put the pollies in the J seats on the 738's (OK, so they need to buy more of them).
