QFF Ideas & Suggestions

Hypothetically; if l lived on the Gold Coast, l would have left QF as soon as they pulled out of OOL and started to charge me to access the JQ Lounge.
The example below says it all IMO and as l said earlier, l totally agree.

...for an upcoming flight OOL-CNS rtn on JQ, I will be able to access the QP in CNS, but not the JQ lounge in OOL (without paying) as a QPNB. Am I the only one who finds this ridiculous?
"Loyalty', seems like a 'enhanced benefit' ;)

I don’t want to derail the thread, but who would you leave them for? You have JQ, who considering their charging of lounge access seems unlike, so then you also have Virgin Blue, who don’t have a lounge either!

It would seem like a rushed decision based off anger at QF and JQ, yet wouldn’t really get you anywhere.

If you were a WP, you’d still get lounge access ;)

I agree they need to firm up lounge access reciprocity and do more with that, but JQ seems very firm in its stance that they want to be cheap and not look for loyalty, which is making it difficult for anyone to come back to choose them again ;)

Who's angry?

I didn't know that DJ didn't have a lounge at OOL, my bad. DJ need to address this rather quickly (especially if they are going to offer business class when they roll out the new hard product this year). OOL would be ripe for the picking if DJ offered J from OOL.
If you got offered; J on DJ from OOL -or- drive to BNE for QF J, which would you choose? I suspect that the majority of people would go OOL as it's less hassle.

Back to the poster

1) Seems like 'status_seeker' had purchased QC membership. When QF serviced OOL, there was a lounge available. They pull out, sister airline at OOL and now QC membership/Gold status isn't valid for entry, WP and CL are. A show of good faith would be to allow QC + Gold members access when flying on JQ, especially for OOL QF based FF's, IMO.

2) For a OOL based FF, in order to earn Points/SC's on JQ to maintain QF status you have to purchase a JetFlex/Star Class bucket, which is a pretty expensive way to keep status. On top of that, if you purchase a JetFlex, you still don't have grounds for JQ OOL Lounge entry and have to purchase entry on top of the JetFlex ticket? The costs quickly add up.

OT; Is there a priority pass/AMEX etc etc lounge at OOL?

The only alternate lounge in Queensland domestically is the BNE DJ lounge. OOL has never been a strong port for QF which is why it went to JQ in totality, too much VFR traffic and very little business traffic to warrant a lounge. Cairns on the other hand has both the room and possibly the traffic to warrant an alternative lounge, and while a previous poster mentioned they found it ironic that they could access the lounge in CNS while flying JQ and not OOL, its important to note you CANNOT access a closed lounge, which is the case when some JQ departures leave CNS and most JQ departures leave DRW.

First time posting seriously: please be nice!

I can't say that I'm a massively frequent flyer, but I do get around enough to be at SG, and have a few ideas.

1. Something like drive through service that Virgin Atlantic have in London but for domestic... Have a private lobby off the taxi rank area, with an entrance off the main checkin area for those coming into the airport by other means, with priority checkin desks here, then a feeder straight into the priority security line (or better, have it separated too), then a direct link into the lounge so that I don't have to enter the busy, noisy, crowded terminal area at any stage... I don't imagine that it would be too hard to implement (apart from the initial cost/space requirements) - you'd just take the staff working at the priority checkin counters and relocate them, along with the staff working at the priority security line... This experience would certainly sway me to flying Qantas more (I'm greatly influenced by price when paying myself), and when I have the choice to fly with others.

2. A dedicated QFF website. Something that is closely linked to the regular Qantas website, but which is a bit more interesting and intuitive - you log in and get taken to your FF homepage, with recent activity, upcoming flights, points balance and all those sorts of things instantly visible without trawling through pop down bars and the menus and so on... Maybe even some more interesting/fun things like a map showing where you've flown in the past month/6 months/year or something, and the points goal like in the app too... (and I hear that frequentflyer.com.au is available for sale ;))

3. More recognition, more often. Has been noted, but maybe when significant milestones are reached, or a few times a year just have an automated email that says thanks for flying with Qantas. Doesn't take a lot, but does remind me that I'm valued.

4. I agree with reverting back to the guest pass system that was thrown out a few years ago - bringing it back electronically and giving a certain number of passes per year (with extra passes being an option in lieu of status credit bonuses) like 20 for SG, then allow for WP to retain current allowance, but also give them 4 or 5 for when they're travelling with family etc.

5. Make the service consistent - if nothing else, then this is the thing to do... It's often after a not so wonderful flight with QF that I go off and book that DJ flight for my next holiday, and you've lost plenty of my business in the past when I can see greater value flying elsewhere... I'm happy to pay the premium but I expect a premium in return.

6. This list is getting long! Allow for SC/points to be earned on JQ flights, at least where QF doesn't fly (ie OOL) - I hate the fact I could earn points on some of the routes before, and now can't AND have to put up with JQ at the same time...

Hopefully that wasn't too long/intense! Looking forward to participating more in the future :)

Just another irritation today.Mrsdrron has had to cancel her visit to DPO as her mother is in hospital.Going down no problem as all QF-changed to a voucher.
But coming back booked QF DPO-MEL and on same QF PNR JQ MEL-MCY.Cant change or cancel online as JQ involved. The QF fare was a $70 QFlink special so change fee + telephone fee=$90 so no point changing. The JQ fare was $108-now wanted to change dates and on JQ website is a $79 special. But QF cant access that so $50 change fee + $60 difference in fare so again no point changing.
Lesson learnt.Never book JQ on QF PNR.Better still NEVER fly JQ.

Many people complain that the QFF program is a "Frequent Shopper" program, not so much a "Frequent Flyer" scheme.

But here's an interesting idea that QFF elite members may find of benefit.

When Credit Card points (and also perhaps other 3rd party point earnings) are transferred to Qantas, perhaps Plat members should receive (say) a 20% bonus, Gold 10% bonus, Silver 5% bonus. I doubt this would be a huge cost to Qantas overall, and think of the additional loyalty that some members would show.

Turn business expenses into Business Class! Process $10,000 through pay.com.au to score 20,000 bonus PayRewards Points and join 30k+ savvy business owners enjoying these benefits:

That's a really interesting suggestion. Would certaibly encourage loyalty, plus make some move to direct earn cc's.

I doubt there is enough demand to fill 6-8x J seats/fight out of OOL. QF couldn't even make enough money on their flights (hence the Jetstar substitution). It's predominately a price-sensitive leisure market without freight to back it up.

Yet you think people would pay even more for J?!?

Platinums can use the F checkin or J checkin for JQi flights...

I try to at least have a chat with the flight attendants once during the flight and always try to say please/thankyou. I'm usually staring out the window at this point at time as I like looking at the other planes.

I was going to say "they can"?

Until I realised that was more of a suggestion, and then yes that would be useful considering what we had to go through on the weekend ;)

Plus you would get longer than 2 hours in the F lounge! ;)

Is there any way to check in early for these flights? You can't use OLCI then I guess?

Nope, have to wait for the JQ staff to turn up late, set up slowly, and then stand around talking for what seems like hours as if there isn’t a hundred-person line waiting ;)

Possibly if you were CL you could get a Qantas staffer to check you in, but that’s not been tested and posted yet ;)

I don't know anyone with CL and the time to test this.

Or, as one JQ agent did responding to my jibe (your website says you're open threee hours prior to departure), "other airlines have re-arranged the poles".
