QFF Platinum requesting release of extra Classic Reward seats?

Will be interesting to see if QF's prediction of high demand on that route plays out.

I'd certainly be keeping a close eye on fare buckets as they may change. I've been surprised at how quickly QF's Japan routes have gone from inaccessible to wide open. Last year I tried for some dates in May/June this year, and had zero luck. A few months ago I had my pick of those months.
Unfortunately trying to start a OWA so can't wait that long. Plenty of Latam availability, so planning to book to Auckland and surface sector to South America. Would have had an upgrade request in anyway which are very pricey for CR, so not too much extra in points and actually a decent saving in taxes.

IME far more likely to get domestic requests approved due to the more lenient booking classes to submit a request, and on most routes, more frequent departures compared with international.

E.g. If your SYD-MEL 8am doesn't get approved, try the 7:30, 8:30, 9am, etc.
Can confirm - requested additional J seat release for ADL-SYD in a few months time and approved

Was with my parents this evening. Mum (WP) called to get some seats released for Dad (SG) from Sydney to Bendigo.

First call was answered by an agent in Suva. After explaining the request, the agent said "Sorry, we can't release seats for your husband because you are not travelling with him and the Platinum member needs to be on the booking as well."... sigh 🙄

Immediately HUACA. Got through to a helpful agent in Hobart who had the request submitted, approved, collected points and taxes and tickets issued within 10 minutes.

Does anyone know what the actual policy is regarding requests for family members who aren't travelling with you?

It must be allowed as I have successfully requested seats for +1 for many years without an issue. I usually tell them proactively who the ticket is for but sometimes they ask me before I get a chance to tell them.

AFAIK the whole calling for seat releases process isn’t really covered in the T&Cs so is a published benefit only where the WP benefits include ‘preferential access to classic rewards seats.’ The only T&C applicable here should be 13.1.14: ‘Eligible Family Members may use the Reward Flight whether the Member travels with them or not.’

Happy to be corrected

Has anyone here ever had any luck getting a seat (or three) released on SYD-DPS or MEL-DPS?

I'm guessing 3 seats would be pushing it given the limited inventory on the 737. Arguably not a great use of points for J also given the hard product, short (by international standards) day time flight, and relatively low cash fares. I think you have a very good chance of getting 3 X seats released though.. then just camp out for T-80 !

Agreed, of course. But thinking about how to survive the flight with a 4 year old and 11 month old in a high interest rate environment led me to consider the option ;)

I'm curious, has anyone managed to get J released on QF3/4 yet? either SYD/JFK vv or AKL/JFK vv?
I have not, however I've been watchig this route and seen zero availablility other than the original points plane when the route was announced. Today though have seen a few 3/4 combos scattered throughout the year. The full QF3/4 SYD-JFK-SYD is scarce with most results showing the 3/4 AKL-JFK-AKL connecting to other QF services to/from to SYD.

There are some, but as you said not many, all the way through. Wednesdays seem to be the best day for QF3 all the way:

That’s great …. Interestingly ex-Mel has the same issue as ex-AKL
Basically it’s air Sydney and the old QF25/26 problem LAX-AKL-MEL

I wonder if you could request QF3 ex- Mel/akl/Bne from the droid if the through is available. It’s actually available married with a few other ex-Syd flights, not just QF3

tried for 2 J seats Vancouver to Sydney April next year - denied
tried for 2 J seats LAX to BNE and LAX to Syd - denied
She told me to try again 6-7 months before the flight time. Last year I had no troubles getting seats back from LAX 11 months out

Surprised about the YVR & BNE denials. Thought they'd be routes with somewhat low J class uptake. Do the dates coincide with height of school holiday travel?
