QFF Platinum requesting release of extra Classic Reward seats?

Re: QFF Platinum and request release of extra Classic award seats

The ability to request seats is probably the best Platinum benefit given the lack of J awards seats generally available.

I have just had 4 x J classic reward seats released for travel in the April 2018 school holidays. QF11 all the way to New York outbound and QF12 return from LA. There were only Y awards showing on the web search but a call to the "premium" line had the outbound requested and confirmed within 24 hours. The request for the return QF12 was even better as I was still on the phone with the agent when she said " that's funny they have just come back approved" . It took all of 5 minutes to confirm !

The key to getting these seats so easily may have been that I was requesting the seats right on the 353 day limit. It meant making two separate bookings , but i am happy to do this if it means we get first dibs on any availability.

I think it is great that Qantas is willing to release seats even during peak school holiday periods. If you can plan well in advance it is a great benefit to keeps the wife and kids happy !!

Re: QFF Platinum and request release of extra Classic award seats

In a predicament for an upcoming domestic booking. As an SG, I have a paid Y seat and the flight only has X available (along with J9 I9 D7 I5). Mrs Excel needs to come along. I could put her in the X seat and request an upgrade for myself, and then offer her a seat swap on the day, but this still leaves us with one in Y.

As an SG, I can't request a seat and none of my immediate family are WP. Does anyone have success requesting a seat open for an 'extended' ;) family member ?

Re: QFF Platinum and request release of extra Classic award seats

I had no success in getting release of an Award seat with two WP as passengers - and this was only due to my existing Award seats being impacted by the Qatar issue flying out of Dubai. I was only allowed to select from existing Award availability even though the flights I'd booked no longer existed. I ended up with 2 Y seats that anyone could have booked.

Another denial for me for release of 2 x J seats over four different flights HKG-SYD.

Over the last 7 years as a WP I have made a request three times, and so far I am 0-3.

Were they during a busy period (eg school holidays)?

The most recent one was, but the two before weren't.

Re: QFF Platinum and request release of extra Classic award seats

Was successful last night getting 2 x J released on QF11 on Boxing Day. Showing I9 on EF so was hopeful, but have heard holidays can be hard.

Need to transfer in more points and do the return tomorrow as apparently they're not allowing holds anymore. Still seeing I9 on QF12 for the way home, so fingers crossed!!

Out of interest, does anyone know if I can request J for the JFK-LAX leg and F for the LAX-SYD leg??

Yep, you can do the J, then F. I have a one way booking from JFK to Lax (J) then Lax to Syd (f) for later in July that is confirmed.

How much did they ask? 144k?

Re: QFF Platinum and request release of extra Classic award seats

I just attempted to use this benefit for the first time. I'm looking for 4 x J seats from SIN-MEL next year, and there is 1 seat available as a Classic Award on my preferred flight. I'd be willing to pay cash for 1 seat, or maybe even 2 if necessary. Anyway, I called up and was very impressed with how helpful the agent was. She sent the request for an additional 3 seats, which (unsurprisingly) got rejected by the automated system. However, she has now held the 1 seat that is currently available for me, and sent off a manual request for an additional 2 or 3 seats. Now it's a matter of waiting!

Re: QFF Platinum and request release of extra Classic award seats

Yes if seats are available you need to secure what you can then make the request for any additional ones.

Re: QFF Platinum and request release of extra Classic award seats

Yes. To be denied 8 months out when there are low loads is disappointing. It's hard to use points.

There's a chance I may want to get a seat/two released to fly to LHR next year but requesting it well under a year out I'll probably have no chance.
