Yes. To be denied 8 months out when there are low loads is disappointing. It's hard to use points.

There's a chance I may want to get a seat/two released to fly to LHR next year but requesting it well under a year out I'll probably have no chance.

I've had 2xF awards for next year's European summer denied, with date flexibility. They did however have no problem with J award releases. That's what happens when QF9 gets downgraded

Yes, but it's always something though. School holidays for 10 or 12 weeks of the year. Easter. Christmas. New year. Chinese new year. Northern summer. Northern winter. AFL grand final. NRL grand final. Long weekend. Yom Kippur . . .

Yes, this is exactly the reason. QF are open about that, each time they deny seats they tell me it's due to the strategic team prediction those seats will be sold.

I've tried to release two seats on QF4 10 months out and failed. Last year there was no problem getting those seats on similar dates (not during school holidays) when booking 6 months out.

I have never been able to get seat released on SYD-BKK route and the cabin is always full.

That's been my experience too.
But availability on EK is usually quite good.

That's been my experience too.
But availability on EK is usually quite good.

EK loads appear to be light and you can get last minute awards and airfares at reasonable prices.

Not sure I understand why they ever took away the 747/A380 from that route. Yes I do realise these went to the DXB and USA routes.

Not sure about B747 but it makes more sense to use A380s on more premium markets where the demand for paid J and F is higher than the more leisurely BKK route.

BKK suffered a double whammy with the removal of BA9/10 (SYD-BKK-SYD) .... it was very easy to pick up F and J awards.

discussions of BKK loads etc are probably a bit OT but I'd offer this..

TG it's fairly easy to get F/J/Y awards on their 744 and other services, and they have their hub at BKK and have onward connections.. This suggests most of their traffic is both connecting but also leisure, and at the cheaper end.

QF has no real beyond feed at BKK - there's no OW partner hub there (as opposed to KUL or HKG or even 3K @ SIN). I'd say the full cabins may not be all paid J, but it may be too, but mostly ex-AU, possibly on corporate accounts and the rest is leisure to Thailand.. They probably can't make larger a/c work (eg: why are EK loads relatively low? same issue) because of lack of beyond connecting traffic, and competition with TG as the hub carrier there.

BA also pulled out for a reason.

Just not the traffic Or rather, there may be the demand, but not the yield (who wants cheap fares?)

I suspect the bloodbath currently occuring to HKG with the VA competition will hurt too, but at least QF has CX at the other end (and KA) to feed, so putting 747/380's into there from SYD/MEL make far more sense than somewhere like BKK.

Had a request get declined after manual review (24 hrs). Was told that once declined, the system will never approve a subsequent request?!
Never heard that - if anything the opposite.

For that date. Never have I heard someone in the Premium desk be so hard and fast and strong with their beliefs. You begin to wonder how open one's mind is...
Funnily at the end of the call, it was suggested to "maybe try again in a few days" because "if there is a block on it, it could be lifted at some stage".

Every other time it has been "just because it's declined now does not mean it would be declined in the future"..

I'd be interested to hear if anyone has done that - called to request, then be denied, then call later for the same request to be approved.

WP booked two 'family' redemptions in Y, SYD-PER-SIN (it was the only QF availability online, early Dec & non JQ).
Is it possible to request release of two seats in Y on a direct QF flight (from east coast), when WP is not travelling themselves?
