Re: QFF Platinum and request release of extra Classic award seats

The late night departure of QF9 means that I can leave work as late as 5:15 in Sydney - get a cab/train to the airport, get down to Melbourne have a few hours in the F lounge and then get to Heathrow in the afternoon - which is much more pleasant than first thing in the morning. QF1 requires leaving work around lunchtime which is a monumental pain in the neck as I'm not senior enough to have that much flexibility. Also I'm only on the ground in the UK for 36 hours - so timings were everything.

I must say that I'm quite a fan of the QF9 timings - this will be my third Melbourne detour this year ... also the few extra SC don't go amiss.

If you are travelling on a J award, there won't be any SCs.

Re: QFF Platinum and request release of extra Classic award seats

What's the chance I can request a "U" release for a JASA booking?
Looking at a change of dates.

A post back in 2010 suggested it was possible; not sure about the current situation given these mASA are no longer available.

Pretty confident it's a no. I recently changed a JASA ... luckily I found an alternative "U" ... had to find two of them though.

Is you booking Dom or Int? If Dom the rules for changing are a 1,000 times easier!

It is a no. The rules specifically stipulate that WP-requested seats are classics only.

Re: QFF Platinum and request release of extra Classic award seats

Had another experience today. Called to change an F award - just a date change. Request took a while on the phone (normally the response is more or less instant) and all fees were waived (taxes and 3500 pt change fee) because I am a WP flying in F - this was the reason when I asked what the fees would be.
Success!

Edit: just checked and the 3500 fee has been applied, not that I am complaining.

Called last week to request 2 J seats MEL-HKG-MEL early/mid July but no luck. Was my first ever request and the CSA was helpful but no dice.....

Re: QFF Platinum and request release of extra Classic award seats

First time for me.

Just got J x 2 BNE-SYD-xLAX-JFK .... JFK-LAX-BNE released. Very happy!

I'll be looking to see if I can convert J>F down the track...

Re: QFF Platinum and request release of extra Classic award seats

I went to book a BKK-HKG-SYD award today in economy and availability on the EK flight BKK-HKG had disappeared. This is normally 36,000 points and the CX flight BKK-HKG puts cost up to 44,000 points.

Tried business on EK BKK-HKG and economy HKG-SYD and the total is 54,000 QFF points so no discount there either.

Instead of stuffing around decided to call up and get business all the way through BKK-HKG-SYD which in theory should be 72,000 QFF points. Consultant created one booking even though a request would have to go through for a seat to be released HKG-SYD.

She created a dummy booking with both flights on there and put request in for HKG-SYD. She said this was now processed differently and could take a few days to be approved. It was manually approved while I was still on phone which seemed to surprise her.

I was expecting to pay the $60 award booking assistance fee and she mentioned this charge was removed long time ago. Last time I requested seats to be released was November 2014 and paid the $60 award assistance fee. I was charged 72,000 QFF points + ~AUD165 which I believe is pretty good use of QFF points.

FWIW the seats I requested to be opened up for Jul 2015, I then changed to Aug 2015 and finally Sep 2015. I wasn't charged the 3,500 QFF point change fee each time even though the charge applies. ;)

It's because YQ in and out of HKG is regulated!

Understood. The last time I requested seat to be released I was charged an additional $60. This time no charge.

Re: QFF Platinum and request release of extra Classic award seats

No charge for my recent (and, first approved) seat release ... icing on a delicious 2 x J to JFK and back cake!

Re: QFF Platinum and request release of extra Classic award seats

Rang to request a P seat for QF2 LHR-SYD, one year out. Loads are F9 A8 J9 C9 D9 I0 W9 R9 T0 Y9 B9 H9 K9 M9 L9 V9 S9 N5 Q3 G0 E0 .
Waited maybe 6-7 minutes on the phone, then the operator says it was declined due to loads. I then asked if it could be sent to the manual processing department (whatever the official name is) and told to call back within 48 hours.
I went to MMB and it has two entries under "Flight details", the first being: "Off Line Point to Off Line Point", followed by my request. How odd!

I recently rang on a Friday afternoon to release one SYD-SFO J and was told it had to be released manually and to check back after 2 bus days. (i.e. Tuesday afternoon)

I was told that for reference purposes that there would be an entry like yours but that it was not a confirmation. Once the seat cleared the details changed but the reference stayed the same.

There was no telephone fee and I didn't ask about it lest I triggered the thought.

Not odd at all. In order to request the booking there must be a live flight. The agents should use 'Off Line Point to Off Line Point,' but some add two paired capital cities instead.

They need your QFF number to stick in the PNR and the only way to do that, is to have a dummy confirmed sector in the PNR. Because your P request isn't confirmed the QFF number won't stick so yield won't know you're a platinum.

Some agents just grab a X class sector on some future date on a route like SYD-MEL but they really shouldn't be doing that when the QF9094 dummy sector exists precisely for that purpose.

Re: QFF Platinum and request release of extra Classic award seats

I guess I meant odd in that I had to wait a while for an answer to the request. Previously it has been approved on the spot, this is the first time I've had a request rejected - have requested QF12 in P during busy periods on weekends with no problem!

Again, not odd.
