N for Domestic YDoes anyone know what fare bucket needs to be available for a seat to be release in Y domestic?

It is not that uncommon, in the past I have requested for seats to be released and have been informed there is only J availability for release.Now I'm a little surprised they'd release J seats and not Y. I guess they figure they're going to fill all those $500 Y seats perhaps.
At that time of year corporate travel has fallen off a cliff. They are more likely able to sell a revenue Y ticket than J as leisure travellers are much more price sensitive. If a leisure traveller has to go they are going to choose the $500 Y fare over the $1000+ J fare 99 times out of 100.Needed to get to ADL from PER the week before Xmas. Noticed no N availability but many flights and I. So J it was. Request for release submitted. Few hours later received an email to call them for an update. Got through to Cape Town. Had to be put on hold a few times but seats released and paid for. Hooruh!

I’ve just put in a request for my mum on QF79 on 8 Aug 23. It’s showing I9, so I’m hopeful.
My real question is this, though: This is a ‘backup’ flight. The current plan is she’ll be in HKG and fly to HND on 8 Aug. I want the backup in case the existing MH flights she’s on are cancelled closer to the time and there aren’t any alternatives.
Will it cause any problems if the seat is released and she’s confirmed on a HKG-HND and MEL-HND flight on the same date?
Obviously a week out from the trip I’ll cancel one of them, but I wanted a bit of insurance.

My first attempt as requesting the release of seats today. After several attempts I connected with a NZ agent who appeared to know what he was doing. My requests:
15/9/23 2xJ QF2 I9 NO
14/9/23 2xJ QF2 I9 NO
13/9/23 2xJ QF2 I9 YES
After being put on hold while he processed the booking, something didn't go to plan. He couldn't take the payment (not a card issue, we didn't get to that stage) and suggested I call back tomorrow if I haven't received a callback beforehand. Is that usual procedure or has he got my hopes up for nothing?
Tina in HOB couldn't see any issue and took payment and issued tickets this morning.
