QFF Platinum requesting release of extra Classic Reward seats?

Tried to get a SYD-MEL 1x U released across a few flights for travel today/tomorrow with a bit of D availability floating around, all declined. To be expected with AFLGF this weekend though...
Just an update on this: Noticed this morning that there was still some D availability on SYD-MEL this evening so tried again for 1x U on a few flights. One of them came back approved! Slightly later than I would have hoped for but given the heavy loads today, beggars certainly cannot be choosers — I'll take what I can get. Payment of points and taxes done and ticket issued shortly thereafter.

Upon doing OLCI, noticed that flow forwarding has been switched on for tonight so I was able to move to my earlier preferred flight anyway. Very happy with that!

So having been WP for best part of last 20 years i hadnt tried the requesting release of seats, but having seen this thread thought i'd give it a go. So phoned up today and requested two F seats for QF2 LHR-SIN on 22 Oct which has 3 A class fares and numerous F seats available. Got rejected. Not sure what the worth of being WP is...i'll stick with Lifemiles/United/American schemes as at least i get what i want....

Not sure of the worth? Let's see, ummm, first lounge access, better selection of seats, greater chance of reaching a competent call centre, higher priority for upgrades ...

I know I was venting….and agree lounge access (particularly first lounges😀) is good value … but selection of seats can be just as good 48 hours before flight…”priority” call centre line took me 50 mins to get thru yesterday (after my first attempt of 40 mins) not exactly what I call premium service, higher “chance” of upgrades is my issue…either they set out rules and they adhere to them or don’t have them. It’s the false hope I think they let people down on for having achieved a high status…having said that it’s still probably the best scheme if you live in Australia which is why I am a member (albeit I fly EK internationally all the time given the superior offering)….

I love this as a selling point 🤣

It reminds me of the Simpsons episode where Homer is offered a job in a new town, and to justify not moving, Marge says "Bart's lawyer is here".

I think this a bit OTT. I mean spitting the dummy after your first attempt at a seat release, on one of the most premium routes, in the most premium seats, and only three weeks from departure ….

Thought I'd ask the brains trust before calling qf - is it possible to request a seat be released to then be added to an existing booking? Wanting to change a routing without the PNR changing.

Yes it is possible to ask for a seat to be released within an existing booking.

Hi all - first time poster here! Me & partner are both platinum, had success in last few weeks in requesting release of 3x first seats on Melbourne to LAX flight in Feb 24. Have had no such luck trying to get 2x seats in first for return flight to Melbourne in March. Also worth mentioning that F cabin is literally empty at this point, ExpertFlyer showing at least nine A/F fares available on the flight.

Curious about 2 things:
1. Wondering if anyone has had any experience in continuing to request seats after being initially declined? One CS agent mentioned "things can change" but I'm curious to see if this has been the case for anyone in this group. If you were unsuccessful on initial call, but tried again and were successful, how long did you wait between calls?

2. Has anyone been able to request manual review as platinum but not platinum one? If so, how did you go about this?

Thx in advance

To get 3xF as a WP is .... outstanding.

You're very unlikely to get manual review as WP alas. Though you never know.

Have you asked about J, and options via SYD/BNE? I know you want F and all, but flexibility is key. Also consider QF22 DFW-MEL in J. Yes a backtrack from LAX, but may have availability for multiple seats.

QF1 SYD-SIN-LHR 5/6/24 I9 = 1 x U declined
QF1 SYD-SIN-LHR 4/6/24 I6 = 1 x U declined

Had good success on Sydney-Vancouver this year, but hard to get London...
I would think the European summer would be one of the hardest times to try to get seats released to London unfortunately when they think they can easily fill the plane. I would love to get a set released around that time of year too.

You can’t request manual review as Platinum, that’s P1 only

I don’t know if it’s true or not, but I was told by a HBA agent ages ago (probably 2017) that they don’t do seat releases in both directions of a trip for WP. I’d be interested to hear if anyone has managed to do it.

I usually book my classic rewards as 2 x one ways (with the exception of 308k awards) but have had "return" seats released in both J and F on international routes.
