QF's Asia announcement

Wow, didn't think this thread would get almost 9000 views in 24 hours

I guess the message from all of us is summed up:
-East coast not many changes, slight improvements with timings, disappointed no new Asian connections or routes announced, worried about the future of QFi, not being able to fly on QF metal anywhere, mourning for our AFF friends in WA & SA, less chances for us to be loyal to QFF, increased flying with OW carriers or competitors where QF has pulled the route and offered no equivalent alternative, no use aiming for high QFF status as routes you want to fly are not serviced by QF anymore the codeshares/competitors don't recognise status the same way or at all.

I was up beat when I first glanced at the release yesterday as I saw CX.etc mentioned, I thought they were going to expand codeshare with them, which is fine in my books as CX are OW and are a great airline, instead no details provided..
The more and more I read it the more I realised nothing majorly positive was actually announced yesterday.

Doesn't the fact that people aren't leaping in to defend this decision discredit your belief that there is a posse of blind QF supporters posting here defending QF in every instance?

Come on. Don't bring facts into it. Facts have nothing to do with that post.

There is an upside - lots more points and status credits!!
There is a balance between flying and wasting time in airports for connecting flights after an overnight flight, and getting 10 status credits. After losing a nights sleep from Singapore anyway the credits are meaningless.

Yes there was... More decimation of QFi services... That is surely something positive from QF's perspective.

No, it just reinforces my position on Qantas and how Joyce is destroying it. What Qantas have done here is pretty much indefensible and even the most ardent one eyed Qantas mouthpieces would have trouble defending such a move, hence the lack of posts in the positive. Their silence is golden. :D

"Dear Valued Customer"?? Being based in Adelaide I find it insulting being addressed in this way when the actions are in stark contrast to this empty statement.

Enough is enough, the time has come for me to switch to VA.

It is pretty tough for Adelaide, or even Perth, folk to see how the Valued Customer tag applies.

The improvements seem to be:

1) We're removing your Qantas flights to Asia
2) There are no Emirates flights as a substitute
3) If you have the temerity to use our new OneWorld partner, Malaysia Airlines, to get to Asia, we'll shaft you on points earning.

Not much of an improvement really....

You are actually proven wrong by the record of posts here. <redacted> You are falsely labelling people. Why? I can only suggest you have your own motivations. But if you had bothered to <redacted> read what is on the record over a large number of years you would know you're wrong. (Perhaps that truth is too hard to handle?)

Where is this "Adelaide" people speak of? Is it a town or village somewhere? :p

I do wonder how other carriers can lay on additional flights from ADL and PER to Asia and QF culls them. Are the other carriers using these services as loss leaders?

I have a moan about QFi's marginalisation of MEL but you guys in ADL and PER genuinely have been [-]marginalised[/-] [-]enhanced[/-] improved!

I am surprised that no one seems to have picked up the subtle(!) differences in wording between the ASX announcement and the QF media release. In the media release suggesting new 787 services it states Qantas Group 787s.Basically I assume that these new ports therefore mean new JQ services.
Again the cynic in me worries that by looking at HND as a new service does that mean QFi services to NRT will be replaced by JQ into HND?
Looking a lot like the beginning of the end for QFi.

The thing is Tony, those Q flights to Adelaide are always full. I heard a guy on radio today who said he was platinum and flew Adelaide-Sin-Taiwan-Korea-Japan several times a year for business. Business class all the way. He will desert Qantas now as he has no choice. Dubai is hardly an option.

Still waiting to hear from Qantas about our booking.

If you look at a map of the world, we are at the a*se end of it. Certainly somewhere around the perineum.

They only had like 3 QFi flights a week before the announcement didn't they? It's hardly a thriving international airport, and they now have DXB daily to compensate.

I just cancelled my flight, maybe all flights now and going to rebook to other carriers.

Such a sad occasion, QF doesnt realise there are alot of loyal flyers in WA. As WP ends in May, might jump across to *A.

Someone in OW needs to pick up the slack for PER-SIN, and I hope CX expands their service.

How does going to Dubai compensate when you work or travel to Asia esp Singapore. That's the sort of rubbish that Qantas is currently spewing out as their version of enhancements. :(

This is the qantas reply to my feedback about ADL.
Since I've been banned from this thread (oh and I'm a blind qantas fanboi who never complains) I'll make no further comment.
No, surely not. Us Adelaidians need all the support we can get.

The beginning of the end started a while ago. I wonder if the ACCC will pull the full authorisation? Sneaky releasing this announcement after getting the interim authorisation.

Bloody lying coughs

Good decision! *A would/will be my next loyalty program.

To Dubai only - what if you want to fly to/via Asia? All via the Eastern states. The problem was they only had 2 or flights to SIN a week on QF (from memory they had more flights at one stage, but cut them?) - if you wanted to fly at other times direct, you had to choose SQ. They seem to be doing ok - added yet more flights to cope with their loadings.

Sure the SYD-ADL vv leg was rarely full, so why didn't they just cut that leg instead? (81/82 still flies to SIN - but now from SYD.) They could have increased the other SYD-SIN flights to increase service from SYD, and just left the 81/82 as shuttle ADL-SIN run and added a flight or two maybe?

I really suggest you try some Turkish delight, I suspect its become more popular overnight in the west ;)
