QF's Asia announcement

QF should really be putting people on the CX PER HKG. They paid for a direct flight therefore should receive one.

Maybe this isn't the right place for this as it is more about EK. But the doom and gloom about the disappearance of QFi might fit. I was just "thinking" about the EK/QF tie up. They have switched around the timings of the flights. 6 or 7 hours LHR to DXB, is very different to 12+ hours. What might that mean for staff bases. I would have thought they'd need a lot less staff in London to support a 6 hour leg than they need for a 12 hour leg. Is the EK/QF tie up an opportunity for them to cheaply get rid of staff in london, those who don't want to rebase out of the UK, and then employ replacements in Australia/DXB on different/cheaper conditions.

The tie in with this discussion is the dropping of routes. Again is that an opportunity to get rid of staff now, before reopening routes later with cheaper staff?

Being Perth based, this sucks huge.

Fair dinkum, Qantas might as well just paint their planes in EK livery and be done with it.

Qantas: "You're the reason we fly."
Qantas customers: "You're the reason it's increasingly difficult to fly with you at all."

Or for SA and WA "we are the reason you will fly and fly and fly with us. We're happy to announce that instead of a six hour direct flight, you now get the benefit of visiting Melbourne or Sydney on your way to Singapore. An extra four hours for your pleasure. Aren't we good to you!"

Just reived a e-mail saying my flight Perth- Kongkong ret in Aug is now cancelled now have to go via Syd, instead of 7hrs now 17, to say sorry they are giving me 8000pts for compo, NOT happy, why cant they bump me up for free, no way, dead easy to give 8000pts away, cant they put me on CX or am I being too grumppy?!

If I could afford it, I would cancel it and rebook and CX and credit the flight elsewhere...

Not so good for PER

PER-HKG ceases to operate
PER-SIN reduced from daily double to daily.

On the plus side the new PER-SIN schedule is much better!

QF were wanting reroute us through Sydney for our PER-HKG later in the year. A phonecall and some begging has us travelling via SIN each way. Arriving at either end at much better times (vs travelling though SYD). As these were ASA'a (Y PER-HKG and J back) I'm intrigued to see what points earn we end up with.

Lol - I am sure you are the only one on this situation. It's not a case of bumping everyone up ha.

Why don't you call and ask for a more realistic option such as going via SIN?

It seems silly to talk about better connections into asia when there aren't any there...

Out of SIN, you are right. If you look at the Changi website for on 3K, Jet, China Eastern departures there are very few flights that actually connect well (MCT puts them departing around 17:00 onwards).

You think they would have lined up PER - SIN so it'd connect with the JAL flight they codeshare on?

Axing is getting media coverage here and Nick Xenophon getting involved. Can't believe Qantas screwed Adelaide like this. Not one International flight yet SQ have two daily.

That would require actual thought and then research; doesn't seem to gel with what we know of past (dis)enhancements from QF. ;)

Was booked for QF029 MEL to HKG & QF030 return later in the year.
Checked my booking and it said to call QF.
I was able to pull back 1 day the departure and push out 1 day my return (extending the trip by 2 days). All done in 2 mins over the phone and booking instantly updated. Very helpful and friendly.

In terms of PER - Tokyo, you could do PER - SIN - HND if you could book JL36 through QF. You'd have a wait from 15:20 - 21:50

Strewth!
Next it will be A Current Affair chasing Alan Joyce down some back alley in Sydney trying to get 'answers" :p:shock::lol:

At least the Perth and Adelaide flyers now get the chance to earn extra points and SCs for their European trip if they insist on travelling QF. If I still lived in the West I would be a little cheesed but being in NT I'm used to lack of QF anywhere decent.

Has anyone got the QF30 timing ex-HKG?

This now makes a 7hr connection in HKG outbound for mrsdoc and a -2hr connection inbound.

mrsdoc wont be happy....

I'm in the same boat for what was a 10am ex SYD connection to a 3pm QF29 flight to HKG early next year.

I'll wait and see what they'll offer, whether it's moved to QF127 or an OMG oclock flight down from SYD. I'll be pushing for the connection the day before on the international 24 hour transit basis.

I'm now re-booked on a 6pm ex-SYD the previous night, no dramas whatsoever from the very helpful Premium desk :)

Timing for the Frankfurt connection replacements isn't great....

QF5 SYD 1655 - SIN 2145, QF5 SIN 2305 - FRA 0525 versus
QF1 SYD 1720 - DXB 0050, QF8043 DXB 0320 - FRA 0740 (comparing today to a Jan-14 flight so same daylight savings)

and in winter
QF5 SYD 1550 - FRA 0615 versus
QF1 SYD 1605 - SIN 0035, QF8043 DXB 0355 - FRA 0850

Thus arriving into FRA 2.5 hrs later which hurts connections thanks to longer layover in DXB
e.g. You miss the Iberia/ AirBerlin connections down into Spain which are 0930-1000 departures.
