QP Perth Renovations

My complaint is not with children being granted entry, but currently QP PER is restricted to members only. If mrs ejb can not get entry why should children be allowed.

Children seem to be one of the universal special case things when it comes to all things policy. Sometimes it is needed and other times it's just a bit superficial.

I'm sure there have been a fair share of people already who have turned up with their SO expecting to get in, and been refused. "So you're telling me I can get in, yet according to the rules which I haven't broken, I can't take my wife in? How heartless are you? Do you sleep well at night?"

Now let's put kids (over 3 years of age) in there, with two qualifying adults, "So you're telling me that we can go in, but you won't let us take in our kids? Even though we're following the rules? Aren't you being very irresponsible? I don't know how you even have a conscience - did you have to rent one?"

And so on.

I agree with your point, however. What all those kids (teenagers etc.) are doing in contravention of the refurbishment the QP is beyond me. I'm assuming they don't have a QP membership of sorts. (Is there a minimum age for joining QP?) Either that or once again the whole children argument thing defeats consistency.

One could argue that children cannot look after themselves outside of the QP while SWMBO's can, but I wont go there!

I am going to make the assumption that mrs ejb can take care of herself out in the terminal. :p

Is there any possibility the children ,like the parents, were travelling J class and allowed access..there are some people with that sort of cash out there, either connecting to Int J of on a U class for the family??

Not necessarily many guestings. The PER QP was always overflowing so I can only imagine what it's like when it's being renovated, and i'm assuming, tiny.

There's *lots* of SG/WP's that fly from PER. The Hi-Viz brigade and a lot of suits travelling as well.

As per ejb's post, lots of teenagers, wives, partners etc. I understand some will have PG, or PQC or may have them in their own right, but for the numbers in there with kids etc they staff were not enforcing the no guest rule.

I noticed a lot of kids that were in there too when I was last there; given the locations they were flying to didn't seem to fit the profile for flyers who would have had it in their own right.

John,

Can you call her and explain this to her, I am not man enough for that conversation.

It's possible, although:
  • If it were an inbound international connection, why PER? No, do not say the timing is better, because it isn't.
  • If it were an outbound international connection, it'd be unlikely because connecting PER-SYD or PER-MEL to international destinations on the same calendar day aren't very convenient (except for possibly New Zealand). Not to say that there might be some suckers for punishment out there (i.e. take the red-eye to connect to the morning international flights)
  • The domestic flight (i.e. the whole family in J going on an East coast holiday) sounds more plausible, however I have to admit not seeing any youths of sorts on any PER flight that I have been on. I know that's not frequent, but IMHO you would have to have money literally to burn to fly the whole family in J (a more common situation is the parents in J, the kids in Y. I've seen this situation many, many times). In saying all of that, this is probably the more plausible scenario, aside from...
  • ...they were let in because of the children responsibility thing or just the lounge entry staff being sympathetic, albeit in contravention of the modified lounge access rules.

In regards to A I would think they're referring to flying from PER to LAX for example  e.g. PER-SYD-LAX

  • It is if you want a day flight ex SIN to BNE, the QF72/592 combo is not a bad option compared to QF32/556 and often more readily available using points, it also breaks it down to two even flights as far as duration goes.

If I do call her and she does not understand my explanation then it could be you that needs to take care of himself out in the terminal. ;)

Perhaps on a permanent basis.

mrs ejb only tolerates the flying I need to do because of the benefits she gets, so taking away the QP would be a backward step.

My son (Now 20) is in this category. He was living in WA with his Mothers family and visited me in MEL at least 5 times a year, and always in J. This has happened from when he was 5. Since he was about 16 he has always flown alone when visiting me. Also whenever we have traveled together it has been at least in J.

Now as a young man he is SG in his own right (funded by dad grrrr) and so he uses the QP very regularly. He certainly has not really "looked the part".... However he has always been entitled to be in the QP.

I will also mention.... He is very polite and although a bit "individual" looking (torn jeans etc..) He knows how to act when traveling.

My long lost dad, we even share the same last name

What about a return J ticket to LHR for me? :)
