QP Perth Renovations

They do have some strange rules at PER that I have not encountered over east.

The last time I got the red eye to SYD ( the week bfore the renos started) my request for a double Chivas was met with "sorry, we don't serve double shots" - however the genuinely sympathetic bar lady the offered me 2 separate single shots. I accepted gladly, poured one glass into the other and returned satisfied to my seat!

It's the law, that's why.

Liquor licencing laws over here are a tad strange aren't they;)

Well you do learn something new every day.

Interesting though, it's ok to serve a martini containing 2 or more shots of gin but not to serve a double Scotch. Also, a pint of full strength beer has the same alcohol content as a double.

Still, laws were never known for their consistency.

Drewbles, I have found the staff at the QP to have been very helpful and happy at the PER dom lounge.

They were more than happy for me to guest my partner in even though all the signage was clear that it was not permitted. Even the staff inside and at the temp lounge were all very cheery and happy to be there, which my partner pointed out.

In saying that I have been lucky to not have had a bad experience yet so touch wood;)

The front door dragons have been non-eventful. The Bar dragons, well, they seem like they hold a grudge against anyone.

I have to agree, the PER dragons are by far the worst in any lounge I've visited domestically in Australia.

I'd say as far as bread-toasting ability goes, the dragons in MEL at the door are probably almost on par with the PER Bar dragons. I'll be sure to have some bread ready to test this theory on my next visit to both lounges ;)

If you gave them 'bread', wouldn't that be bribery? ;) :D

We need one of those hidden cameras that look like a shirt button....

I've encountered that in QP's/J Lounges over east.

Baileys on Ice with one shot is a bit sad. In one of the lounges i'd just sat down with the drink and I was asked if i was done with it. I hadn't even touched it!

They're happy to give you two of them though. :|

Do buses still go across the country? EDIT** Just checked the website and no they do not, you need to take the train**

With the low ticket prices these days on flights I thought the bus would have superceeded.

There is still the train though if you want to punish him.;)

They still have buses, just not express - and in fact sending a grayhound ticket is very generous, its $1000+ and takes 9 days :D

Nullarbor Tour - Adelaide to Perth

Real shame they got rid of the express buses - must have been a shocker!

As I used to drive Sydney to Perth return every week I can say with some authority that it is a long boring drive.

On the PER QP renovations, I was there yesterday for the 11am Sydney flight and although the signs all say no guests unless a lot of kids have QP membership I think the dragons need to do there job better. I was travelling alone but if mrs ejb had been with me and she had been denied entry there would have been sparks flying when I saw the amount of children (and not just babies) in the lounge. One couple had 4 children with them:shock:.

Rules should be applied fairly and this should include children.

I would much rather go gold class on the Indian pacific than fly TT or Deathstar...

I think most people would agree with you on that, only because Gold Class on the Indian Pacific is quite expensive but has extensive service on board and, notwithstanding the length of time differences, is clearly a better proposition per se than flying TT or JQ!

Gold class is around $2000 one way so more than a J QF flight.

Dragging slightly OT now....

Had you booked a package before 31 March 2010 with a Red Sleeper seat, 2 nights accommodation and 1 day tour, before 31 March 2010, you would've been upgraded for free to Gold.

In any case, you offered a binary comparison and two choices (Indian Pacific in Gold Class, or TT/JQ). Unless I was in a real rush, I'd take the train, and I think most people here would, too.
