QP Perth Renovations

Dragging slightly OT now....

Had you booked a package before 31 March 2010 with a Red Sleeper seat, 2 nights accommodation and 1 day tour, before 31 March 2010, you would've been upgraded for free to Gold.

In any case, you offered a binary comparison and two choices (Indian Pacific in Gold Class, or TT/JQ). Unless I was in a real rush, I'd take the train, and I think most people here would, too.

Totally agree if time was no factor the train would be very good. A great way to catch up on reading and relax.

Didn't have any issues with the PER Qantas Lounge reception staff in September last year. In fact we had a long transit and my father went outside a number of times for a cigarette and was let back into the lounge each time without question. I know this was before the renovations but goes to show how we all have different experiences. Also I do not bother to note how I have been treated each time I enter a Qantas Lounge.

All Qantas Lounges have a rule that spirits are not served as doubles, unless you know the barperson. ;) It is also not that hard to ask for 2 nips and pour one into the other....

QP front door staff are just fine, in fact, they've often gone above and beyond for me when I was only QP PS. It's the bar staff that are next to useless.

As an example, I was told by one bar person once that if I was seen pouring one into the other, I would be cut off and management would be informed. The bar staff at PER are usually hopeless.

Why does this make them useless? It suggests to me the bar staff are aware you are ordering two in order to circumvent the rules against double shots.

Lots of things are only a problem if you get caught:!:

Technically, it's *not* a double shot that's the thing. Their pours are 15mL's, not 30.

1 standard drink is 30mL. Therefore, 2 x pours = 1 standard drink, not a double.

Anyway, I've just started invading the wine bar if they have something more suitable. They don't care if you finish half a case of wine, but ask for a double and they get shirty.

If they were serious about RSA and the like, they'd not have a self service wine bar.

Rant over, back to discussions about the QP in PER.

A reliable source tells me the CL finished early and is now open, and the renovations are on-track to be completed on-time :)

A lot of people on AFF unfairly refer to them as "lounge dragons" as they can't always get their own way. I think that is wrong. They are only doing a job.

This is where it comes in handy to get to know the bar people and be polite to them. Most bar people in both lounges in SYD and BNE know my drink(s) and are disappointed when I change or only have one type of drink. They must think that I am not feeling well.

IME the staff in the PER QP are fine.

A week ago they allowed me to take a guest (travelling but non-member) into the QP with a "No problem, we can accommodate you", even though the upstairs lounge was quite full. And a request for the bar staff to top up the ice bucket was met with a smile and "absolutely".

Maybe I'm easily pleased but I'd have to say under their current working conditions (renovations and associated customer discontent) the PER QP staff are doing quite a good job.

It is good to hear some positive comments. My only recent experience in PER was also very good. :D

I'm only ever polite to lounge staff (and FA's as well). I know they have a job to do, and I don't want to make it any more difficult after they've had to deal with Von and Nev who were let in with guest passes they bought on eBay for their 25th wedding anniversary to the gold coast so they should be treated 'like VIP's cause that's what this lounge is for isn't it?' </tongue in cheek>;)

I call them dragons due to their attitude a lot of the time. They're just grumpy, terse and short. If you're having a bad day, don't take it out on a Pax. They pay your wages. I always say hello with a big smile when i walk past and show my card/boarding pass, and often just get an evil look and no more than a grunt. That's mainly MEL though where they have a lounge dragon guarding the entrance to the den. The desk staff inside are usually fine.

...

Problem is I don't do enough frequency in lounges as you do (back when Impulse existed I did weekly MEL-SYD-MEL but no lounges or the like, and the staff on-board knew me by name and did always look after me). PER is not like MEL or SYD. It's a small lounge with one bar and the staff i've encountered there obviously seem to not like their job nor the pax. I've often walked up said 'Hi could I have xx_xx_ please?' to be served it, no words spoken from them. Maybe i've been extremely unlucky, but it's not hard to be polite back to someone being polite to you (when it's your job).

At PER QP today, staff where fine. There were obviously lots of people guested in today. There was also a SYD flight delayed by 4 hours and a MEL flight delayed by 2 hours, so the lounge was very full, and there were lots of annoyed people.

Not necessarily many guestings. The PER QP was always overflowing so I can only imagine what it's like when it's being renovated, and i'm assuming, tiny.

There's *lots* of SG/WP's that fly from PER. The Hi-Viz brigade and a lot of suits travelling as well.

How many teenagers are members? How many 5-8 year olds are members?

I would say not many and the QP was full when I was there last week of kids. All I want is consistency in rules, no guests should include kids.

Fair point, but I know various children do not count as guests (serfty can advise how old that is, I can't recall).

Consistency? In QF? Yes, that would be nice ;)

I was of the understanding that under 3 did not count as guests and that is fair, but teenagers should count as they take up room and that is the reason the QP is full.

The rules say that children 3 years and younger are not counted in the guest count.

In saying that, I'm sure many people of various statuses have gotten away with children of ages older than that without having them in the guest count. And many times, too.

I know BA are notorious for being very stringent in enforcing the guesting rules. This does include children.

My complaint is not with children being granted entry, but currently QP PER is restricted to members only. If mrs ejb can not get entry why should children be allowed.
