QP Pizza - I've given it a good run, but my verdict is a thumbs down

Allegedley a wood fired oven at that :rolleyes:

Yes I find it hard to imagine a wood oven with open flame & chimney installed at each of the QPs across AUS. Open flames & chimneys at airports would seem dangerous to me.

I would assume that the bases were wood fired off-site and then they were assembled and re-heated at the QPs.

Don't pay the Perry man ...

Funny!

Umm the few wood fired pizza ovens I've seen don't actually have open flames. The flames are enclosed as it makes it easier to use the generated heat for cooking things.

How about simply some fresh sandwiches- or even better, toasted sandwiches!

Recently was in the QF club internation @ Sydney. They came around with toasted ham & cheese sandwiches of some description and just started offering them to people in the lounge. Was a nice surprise and tasted nice.

Oh, I was thinking of the type that is at my favourite pizza shops. Basically a large controlled combustion heater with a chimney fueled by wood with open flames.

I think you are talking about the same thing really - a big oven with burning wodd at the back, a small opening and an chimney.

Frankly I think that is no less risk than the 100,000's of litres of aviation fuel, workshops (with welding equipment) and idiot pax - especially given the onsite fire brigade...

I'm Just saying that the flames are enclosed hence it is not an open flame, i.e. like a camp fire is an open flame.

I jumped on it as I have no time (or stomach) for those party pies - heartburn in a pastry case. Also those dodgy ball things that you eat with sweet chilli sauce aren't the best. The pizza when it's fresh was okay but always seemed to lack something. Of course it got leapt on like seagulls on chips when it showed up.

Those chicken strip things (had them in TSV) are a crime against food. Machine strained meat or whatever they call it. I thought they were going to be proper breast meat strips. Blecch!

What's next? Tacos?

+1 to the tacos please.

Conveniently, we can then argue about whether they should be soft shell or hard shell, that they've used Woolworths 3 star mince (and not angus mince), that a fish taco should never exist, that there's insufficient condiments to add to said taco, and finally to complain that QF used flour tortillas instead of corn tortillas.....:rolleyes:

Pretty hard to get in a hard taco shell, but that reminds me, i think i will make like a fish burrito tonight... crispy whiting tempura battered strip, bit of cheese, lettuce, red onion, tomato, dijonnaise... There's a winning recipe for Red Roo... :)

I'd admit that a fish taco sounds bad but some good friends in LA took me to a restaurant and we had some. They were awesome!

Next time I should be more open minded about new experiences.

You know way too much about tacos! ;) From memory I don't think I have ever had a taco.

Oh and nothing wrong with Woolworths or Coles 3 star mince. Tastes exactly the same as the premium stuff when it is cooked. And if it is considered too fatty then all the better as I need some extra fat with my current diet. ;)

IIRC, the T4 F/L setup was soft tortilla kept warm (foil wrapped in pairs so they did not dry out). On the other side of the warmer was a tasty hispanic chicken concoction. To add to this was sour cream, sliced tomAtoes, refried frijole beans and sliced lettuce.

Ok, I will admit it, I admit I complained on these very forums about the NPPP's

But jiminey crickets, those pizzas things NPPT's (Neil Perry Pizza Things) are like eating the box that pizza comes in when home delivered. complete with some topping that dripped off the pizza and melted its way into the cardboard.

So whats the verdict? Some stuff is great, i really dig the slow cooked beef, some of the other stuff is a bit mixed, but i think the biggest issue is variety, or severe lack there of.

Like most frequent travellers here, we seem to spend a lot of time in the lounges, and its a little disheartening to see the same stuff over and over again.

With the benefit of hindsight I think my complaints about the NPPP's was perhaps that was the only single thing we saw every single time, as opposed to their taste and quality.

On food, has anyone tried that deliciously sweet slice they have in SYD next to the jars of liquorice allsorts? Very nice. Better than the usual soggy cake on a plate.
