Question about the forum software

I notice that the "Reputation" feature has now been turned on. I've seen this cause a lot of angst on another forum, especially when members allocate negative rep points and it becomes a competition as to who has the most green (or red) squares.

How have the starting points been allocated?
Totally agree. There is absolutely no need for it. If you spend more than a few days on this website you know who is fair dinkum. I noticed someone with one post who had 1 green square, yet Kiwi Flyer with over 2,000 posts had a gray square.

I am amazed that I have 2 green squares. I would have expected a whole lot of red ones by now. Give it time....

Didn't take long. I now have my first red vote cast against me. No guesses as to who voted as the thread has been closed for a few days now.

The reason given was I provided incorrect information which in inself is wrong because this would mean that the person voting would know the correct information. Now there is no right or wrong, correct or incorrect anser, to the statement i made so therefore this would mean that the vote I received was based on voter emotion rather than fact.

With any luck, this new toy will be taken away from the children in a few days. :D

Issue with Community Bulletins and "New Posts"

There appears to be a problem with the community bulletins.

I regularly emply the New Posts feature.

When I do the following appears among the options, generally at the bottom:

The threads below have not been updated since your last visit but still contain unread posts. ...

I cannot read this link; I get the error:
serfty, you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons:
  1. Your user account may not have sufficient privileges to access this page. Are you trying to edit someone else's post, access administrative features or some other privileged system?
  2. If you are trying to post, the administrator may have disabled your account, or it may be awaiting activation.
This entry has been appearing every time I do new posts and I have been disregarding it. Today a new bulletin was issued and I now have two of these entries to ignore.

I get the same issue. I can actually get 2 different error messages based on the method used to view the thread.

I reported it to Clifford and he said he will try to get the developer to fix it.

I now just ignore the post as I use the "Today's Posts" link more often than the "New Posts" link.

I ignore it, but I wish it would go away. If you can't see it, it shouldn't turn up in the search results.

Now I have two entries for it. I hope I don't get an extra one each time a new bulletin goes out!

Yes you will unless the developer is able to fix the community newsletter forum. I think it has something to do with not allowing members to post in this forum.

So in a years time, I will have two pages of them to look at? Wow, what fun that will be

Actually oz_mark there is a simple workaround until a permanent solution is found.

Click on the "Community Newsletter" forum. At the moment you should see the two threads in bold. Click on Forum Tools
menu_open.gif
and then select Mark This Forum Read. Voila, like magic the two threads are now marked as read and no longer bold. When next week's Community Newsletter is posted follow the same instructions.

It returned me to a somewhat distorted view of the Australian Frequent Flyer Community page with the list of all forums but from here you can navigate where you want to go. Let me know if workaround is OK!

Thanks JohnK, I have done that.

If these bulletins are the same ones that we get emailed each week, I wonder why they are secret!

Well, they don't continue to show up as unread for me now, so maybe the problem has been fixed.
Nup, Still showing for me. Them again Lindsay, as a Moderator you probably have a differing access situation.

Didn't you guys try my suggestion from post #233?

It does work!

No - we're addressing Lindsay Wilson's post where he suggests the problem may have been fixed. It hasn't.

It appears to be affecting only random members. They only show on my New Posts page until I try to open them. After that, they gone just like any other read message.
