Juddles a group of Chinese shoppers in a Chemist warehouse anywhere in Australia are likely to be Daigou shoppers buying goods to ship back to China.
i passed such a group in woollies in Bundaberg yesterday.Their baskets had quite a lot of dettol products ans a couple of cans of infant formula each.I had no problems passing them in the aisle as even if they are Chinese citizens they have almost certainly have been here for quite some time.

South Korea? Japan? Taiwan? Singapore?
My 3 years experience in Korea was much better then in Australian banana republic
I worked in Korea in 1991 for 3 months. My daughter then went to winter school a few years ago and persuaded me to go back Xmas before last. I must admit I wasn't 100% keen but was extremely impressed by my visit. A very technologically and socially advanced country, and yes I agree Australia has lessons to learn from such countries.

even in 1991? wow!
Now it's like another world compare to this times. Try go there again, you'll be really impressed with the difference.
Then compare 1991 Australia to 2020....

We went there to build offshore platform for Australian company on Samsung Heavy Industries ship yard near Busan. Coz there is no industry in oz, only zero emissions target :(

Yeah, it was a completely different place in 1991, the advances they have made are incredible.

Just after 10.am at Costco Morrabbin this morning.

Car park totally full.

Every register was opened with long queues for each, with trolleys laden with flour and toilet paper.
My nephew tells me the customers were around 95% Asian, and that the staff were saying this was worse than Christmas or Easter.

Is there some festival coming up?
Cheers,
Renato

Corona festival my friend.

Gov recommended to have enough stock at home for two weeks and as always some take it to the extreme.

Your pic is not 95% Asian though.

Maybe toilet paper was on special?

The queues were huge.
My nephew said the picture doesn't really do the surreal situation justice.
Cheers,
Renato

P.S. Turns out this is not just a local phenomenon at Costco Moorabbin.

Thanks for that further montage of pics. None are 95% Asian either. Though they are USA pics.

I work in the health industry And am of Asian descent so was horrified by reports coming out of the Royal Children’s (and one other public hospital) that on a few occasions families presenting to the emergency department are refusing to be treated by doctors of Asian (assuming Chinese) descent and requested to be seen by a “Caucasian” doctor thankfully common sense prevailed and the request was refused). This more than the “not visiting Chinatown/Box Hill/Glen Waverley restaurants” situation is a truer example of blatant racism. Don’t worry about the fact that the treating doctors haven’t been anywhere near the affected areas, likely born in Australia or lived here for >6 years etc.

COVID 19 is coming. That horse has bolted but it’s not going to be the end of the world. Take simple precautions. Wash your hands. Don’t sneeze in someone else’s face etc. Maybe leave some hand wash/toilet paper/rice/canned goods etc on the shelf at the local supermarket so that we all can buy some when needed.

Dunny paper is very popular these days :p
I just don't get it! What is it about toilet paper? Clearly I'm doing it wrong. 😂

I've heard similar about males not wanting their wives to be treated by any male Doctor and insisting on a woman. Religious based.

True. This is a well known issue particularly with patients of Islamic faith. Sometimes it just isn’t possible eg who’s working, limited staffing in rural settings etc. I’ve personally never had an issue but always offer to have a female chaperone present if they want.

Not sure on what basis you are expressing skepticism that they were 95% Asian.
My sister-in-law and nephew were there.
They saw it.
You didn't.
That store has around 50% Asian customers whenever I visit it at normal times, Let's face it - they recognise and appreciate good value when they see it.

Renato

A friend of mine in the health care industry often gets female patients in full hijab demanding they be seen by a female as it is their right. When they are told, "no problems we can fit you in next Friday", the response is more often than not "well I'm here now, may as well see someone while I'm here"
