Racism and the Coronavirus

A friend of mine in the health care industry often gets female patients in full hijab demanding they be seen by a female as it is their right. When they are told, "no problems we can fit you in next Friday", the response is more often than not "well I'm here now, may as well see someone while I'm here"

Exactly

Suddenly a lot of things make sense

Can't beat those Costco meals - for value and for taste.

And I love their meatpies........ hmmm, I think I'll be heading off soon to stock up on more meatpies, I've only got about 10 regular and three family ones in the freezer.
Cheers,
Renato

I work in the health industry And am of Asian descent so was horrified by reports coming out of the Royal Children’s (and one other public hospital) that on a few occasions families presenting to the emergency department are refusing to be treated by doctors of Asian (assuming Chinese) descent and requested to be seen by a “Caucasian” doctor thankfully common sense prevailed and the request was refused). This more than the “not visiting Chinatown/Box Hill/Glen Waverley restaurants” situation is a truer example of blatant racism. Don’t worry about the fact that the treating doctors haven’t been anywhere near the affected areas, likely born in Australia or lived here for >6 years etc.

COVID 19 is coming. That horse has bolted but it’s not going to be the end of the world. Take simple precautions. Wash your hands. Don’t sneeze in someone else’s face etc. Maybe leave some hand wash/toilet paper/rice/canned goods etc on the shelf at the local supermarket so that we all can buy some when needed.
The hospitals should be giving those families a choice - do you want the Asian Doctor or the Aussie Doctor who just came back from a vacation in northern Italy the other day?

Plenty of stuff left at Woolworths and other supermarkets.
My nephew took a picture at the Woolworth's supermarket an hour and a half after going to the nearby Costco. Interesting contrast.
Cheers,
Renato

I’ll have to visit that woolies. My local one and the Coles a block away have essentially no hand wash of any brand, Panadol or Neurofen. Toilet paper was still available 😏

Overheard someone in costco the other day as they passed someone of asian ethnicity "dont go near them they may have coronavirus"... My job is in health care , when we were organising a visit for one of our team members to see a patient at home ... we got the response " are they asian, they wont them them in if they are, for fear of catching coronavirus"

I bet there's no toilet paper left there now.
I also noticed all big boxes of tissues have now gone (some little boxes left), and while not totally out of it - there was obviously a run on UHT milk.

I stocked up on UHT milk today too.
The thought of being in self-isolation fo two weeks and not being able to make a cappuccino was unbearable.
Regards,
Renato

You are correct. No toilet paper at all. Or tissues. Or hand soap/sanitizer. Pasta and rice also running low 🙄

When I went for grocery shopping and saw the craziness first thing I checked that my favourite coffee brand was still available. Thankfully there was plenty left. People didn’t seem to care about coffee but went crazy for rice and pasta. How can Aussie be racist if they can’t live without Chinese and Italian food ;)

Hopefully, there were still cans of Campbells Spaghetti Sauce - longest lasting and meatiest sauce around to go with that pasta. Tastes really good when one adds lumps of cheese to melt into it, with whatever herbs and spices one has in jars.

Tissues certainly make sense for anticipated runny noses.

I stocked up on three big bags of Dim Sims.
Meat, vegetable and pasta in one convenient item that microwaves in 50 seconds each.
It's the one item I can't get in Italy - and I always guts myself when I come home.

A woman at the checkout ahead of me today, said to the sales chap that normally doesn't drink coffee, but was buying her Instant Coffee just in case she had the urge id stuck in isolation.

With all the rubbish food people are stock piling on I expect to see an increase in cardiovascular complications, hypertension and obesity associated with the corona stock piling!
Trouble is all the good stuff we eat is perishable.

Can anyone recommend a good cookbook about how to cook with toilet paper?

In view of the bad press Italians are getting we went to an Italian restaurant last night. :D
The good news is that - if things get really bad - cans of Heinz Big Eats Ravioli Bolognaise actually taste pretty good.
Cheers,
Renato

I bought one of these to try in iceland (prices seems ridiculous to eat out all the time for not so great food)
Would it be the same thing in Iceland?
Here I really like the Heinz Big Eats ravioli one, but the Heinz Ravioli in the bigger can (in the Chunky range I think) was more filling, but didn't taste as nice.

That said, either can would have been better than some pathetic ravioli dishes I picked up in some places in Italy at ridiculous cost.
Cheers,
Renato

The big eats are great, I wish they made them in foil packets so I could take them hiking,

I made spaghetti with meatballs last night and fried rice tonight...

The narrative of the leftist media is that Aussies are racist.
Most leftists have not been out of Australia so don't have any experience of countries to compare to Australia.

Racism is alive and flourishing around the world. Some places more than others. If we included just Asia Australians wouldn't be close to being in the top 25 most racist countries. If you included the whole world we would not even be in the top 150 most racist countries.

Australians in general are very tolerant of everyone. If you don't believe what I say then travel around the world with your eyes and ears open and you'll understand.

Hi John,
Can't disagree.
Just type "Racism in Australia" in Google - and check out the Australian Racism industry.

Renato
