did I say ANYWHERE that QF would ACTUALLY do this???? I was posting my OPINION and SUGGESTING...'you never know' ..'give it a try'... AND responding to MEL_Travellers post

there's a huge difference between being 'demanding' and arming yourself with knowledge and putting forward your case

People don't need to be "armed with knowledge" to get a fair treatment, what happened to honesty in service?
If QF operates 5 weekly A380s and I was told that during that period there are only B747s on 3 consecutive days then something doesn't adds up here does it?
Maybe if I would be less nice and more demanding them the agent would have actually checked the flights instead of brushing me off.
 
don't fall of your seats...I actually agree with this:shock: ...if you are on an existing full paying F/C booking on the days that will still have the A380 (just with the J/C service)..you should be able to 'keep your seat'.. I don't think this is an unreasonable request/retainment... in addition, I also think ALL the F/C 'downgrades' should still be able to have access to the First Lounge as per the original F/C booking...all until those particular F/C pre bookings have been 'exhausted'...ie: those that booked F/C before the cabin option was no longer 'bookable'... hope that was a bit clear as to my thinking!! :lol:

given those circumstances...I would be asking for this...nicely of course...you get more when you ask nicely ;)

How about the F privileges at QF HKG lounge - free shoe shine and pressing? Downgraded FASA pax should demand some kind of voucher giving them that too.

Really? Like that is the most pressing issue, no pun intended! I wish some people would just accept that not everything in life goes the way they want, cough happens and they just need to deal with it and move on. But out of interest's sake how many people here have booked an F seat on the SYD-HKG A380 post October and will be affected by this?

It's called a contract! There is no reason for people to forgo amenities or services they have paid for.

But out of interest's sake how many people here have booked an F seat on the SYD-HKG A380 post October and will be affected by this?

I do admire people with your sort of outlook. So your car gets stolen, and you say "Hey, not everything goes my way, cough happens and I'll just move on..". :)

Or you turn up to the airport to find that your reservation to London has been lost and the airline simply shrugs and turns you away. :) :)

Or you book that once-in-a-lifetime trip on QF F to HKG and ... oops! .. smile and just move on :). :) :)

As to the number of people affected, one assumes that these flights wouldn't have flown with empty F cabins, so it'll be quite a few people who will be "moving on" (probably to other airlines).

I find it a but hard to defend QF right now as their customer service managed to piss me off but... the first 2 examples you gave were nasty surprises and QF do give a timely notice of the change and although any downgrade is not pleasant, flying 9 hours in J on the A380 or the B747 is not that bad.
And if anyone really need to fly F to HKG they can look at the indirect route with BA via SIN.

Its a fair cop; guilty as charged, m'lud. :-| But is this really 'timely notice? People are reporting that they can't get sense about whether A380s are operating the service.

These are F pax they are screwing around with (ie mostly ker-ching for the airline!) ; if the pax wanted to fly indirect with BA via SIN they would have booked that.

I've had many great experiences flying with QF, and have posted many of them here; but I'm not flying much with them any more, and would be an unlikely revenue F pax to HKG. What absolutely drives me up the wall with Qantas is the complete and utter balls-up they make of just about anything they fiddle with, from the typos, wrong tables, rubbish and non functioning links (ie 'book business' link) they post on their web site, to e-mails with errors and typos, to yes, no, maybe on F availability, to charging for non-chargable mASA phone bookings for months and months, to grounding the whole bloody fleet (no timely notice there!), to stealth changes on the web site, to the entire inconsistency in the devalued earn tables published (and re-published) lately and so on and so on and so on. [No, your Honour, I don't have anger management issues ... :p ]

And the worst of all - Lesley Grant reportedly stands in front of the AFF lunch and unequivocally defends the recent QFF changes as being 'simpler and fairer'. I'm glad I didn't enter, and certainly glad I wasn't invited. I may have retched on the spot.

Gotta go .. the warders are coming back with what looks like a jacket with wrap-around arms ...

Slightly OT, but I have just booked Syd - Hkg for December/January, and both flights are booked on the A380.
When selecting seats, the F cabin (sold as J) does not come up. Has anyone been able to successfully select a seat in the F cabin for these flights?

I thought the F seats would not be able to be pre-allocated but would be allocated to higher tier frequent flyers later.

So you would expect high tier frequent flyers to have access to those seats through MMB, just like they can access rows 4 and 5 on a 738 for instance?
 
Those mentioning SQ in this thread might want to have a look at their (SQs) plans. From what I hear, virtually all of their A380s services to Oz will be replaced by 777s.

Still one daily for SYD at this stage. Although they did break one today at Sydney by getting the engine to kiss the aerobridge.

That's how it works on the Pilbara routes where the J cabin is sold as economy.

The consultant was not aware that QF was not offering first to Hong Kong anymore. She asked me where I found this out, I directed her to this website and another I frequent. She placed me on hold whilst she looked them up, and came back and said that I know more than she does! She then enquired with her supervisor how to reserve seats in the F cabin - came back that the seats aren't available for allocation yet, but keep checking back.
Can you imagine that there are actually flyers out there that don't have access to such wonderful resources as AFF, and have to rely on QF staff for information!

If the 'training' for phone booking of mASAs is any guide, we can expect it to take a couple of months become there is a reasonable level of awareness of the new HKG situation.

That's only fair (and simple).

I suspect that feature may not be enabled until 29 September when the changeover with DFW occurs.
 
I would be having further discussions if I was you.

Called premium reservations today and asked again to check for me exactly the same dates I requested on Friday. This time a miracle happened and on both legs the A380 was found. Well, not exactly a miracle, just this time I got an honest agent. I was told that the F cabin is still blocked but being P1 my seat there is almost guaranteed.
Now I'm tossing what to do regarding the agent who lied about the availability of the A380. In my view, downgrading from F to J is not the end of the world and I can live with that but I was really offended by that agent's service. Dishonesty is a bad quality and Qantas should get rid of the bad seeds that bring the company a bad name, it has enough problems as it is.
 
Slightly OT...but do you get pajamas in J on this flight?
