RedQ - Asia newest ultra-premium airline

Well it doesn't work for me but then again, maybe I'm too simple.

The Q on the end reminds me of the word queue which brings me images of long lines of people waiting for something and that is certainly something I don't want with an ultra-premium airline.

Maybe that is why other think it sounds like an LCC.

I think most here are just a little over five but I have not seen too many better suggestions.

Let's hear some people.

My suggestions: OneAsia, or RedSky ... and for the company's frequent flyer program, how does RedQ Executive Flyer sound?

(Ok I cheated, look at ATMOSS shows that RedQ + these three trademarks were lodged during June in the name of Maxwell Corporate Services Pty Ltd)

One thing about the name - in Australia the association of Q with Qantas is strong - but if the new carrier is based in Singapore the name RedQ has a different dimension to it. People here usually refer to Singapore Airlines as SIA or probably just as commonly, if not moreso SQ. (Question: Are you flying SQ? Answer: No, flying RedQ instead).

Talking about the Q, I love DJ's dig at not wanting to be part of the "Q" as part of their Velocity TV add. Very clever;)

If I was looking to build upon the reputation of Qantas to create a premium airline, I would call it Qantas.

But FarQ does seem to be the way things are going.

Am I the only one that doesn’t mind RedQ? Sure it’s not brilliant, but it’s not awful either. Not like Scoot, which is just ghastly.

Nope - not the only one. It works for me too.

In the perfect world I'd prefer to see it named Qantas :) As the poster above suggests. But this is reality and we know what QF is up to here.

Hm... Red Sky.. I'm sure that's similar to a brand name for a pack of crisps over here!

All of the names they have registered sound like LCC's, or brands of vodka.

When you think of premium airlines in the region, you think of Cathay Pacific and Singapore Airlines particularly; both have dignified 'premium sounding' names. perhaps something simple like Qantas Asia, would sound better.

It would be interesting to hear what they call Cathay Pacific in Hong Kong (in general usage). In Singapore, non-one calls "Singapore Airlines" by that name, it is either SIA or SQ. In fact I got an email from zuji (.com.sg) earlier this week and the subject header was "Emirates or SQ to Melbourne: Australia from $..." (Not "Emirates or Singapore Airlines to Melbourne:...") Hence I can see a certain appeal in RedQ for the market here. Whether it is a serious contender, or just a smokescreen I guess time will tell.

RedQ sounds like the sort of name an LCC would have. It gives no air of premium-ness.

What i'd like to see is the chinese name for the carrier.

They can call it RedQ if they want coz their target audience don't read english.

Moomba, on Flyertalk, has posted a trip report flying the premium single class BA A318, which is possibly an indication of how "RedQ" will be fitting out its A320s.

Well it's nice to be sure. But if it was such a money spinner then why don't BA have more of them? And why aren't existing Asian airlines, who are always quick to adopt a good thing, also running them? could it be they've already looked into it and found it unviable?

But let's be positive here and suppose it's an untapped market and takes off like wildfire. Do we really think SQ and CX won't just buy themselves a heap of A320s and run in competition with RedQ, leveraging their established and highly regarded brands to pander to the rich Chinese market, whom they probably understand better than anyone at QF?

People say "CX" or "Cathay".

Those BA A318 seats a pretty comfy. If they're they route redQ goes then hopefully they put in a proper ife system unlike the digi player BA uses.
