Regional Express Delays/Cancellations

Monday 8 May 2017 has ZL917, the 1150 hours from MQL across and up to SYD that was airborne at 1240 hours arriving at a forecast 1431 this afternoon, 46 late. VH-ZLO is the SAAB340B.

The early evening of Tuesday 9 May sees ZL344 (1745 hours late afternoon SYD - GFN) not having been in the sky until 1850; arrival of VH-ZRN (SAAB340B) should be an hour tardy at 2010.

On another somewhat foggy MEL morning, ZL3656 (the 0815 hours MEL - MQL, SAAB340B VH-ZXG) took off at 0915. Arrival is predicted at 1006, 31 late.

Wednesday 17 May sees ZL332 (1405 hours early afternoon SYD up to LSY, SAAB340B VH-ZRZ that took off at 1504) likely to arrive at 1631 hours, 46 minutes late.

Monday May22 sees 2 ZL flights each way cancelled between WGA and SYD

SYD-WGA 0640-0755 and 0845-1000 cancelled
WGA-SYD 0640-0730 and 0815-0925 cancelled

The Sunday May21 SYD-WGA 1900-2015 and MEL-WGA 1835-1945 which overnights in WGA before operating the morning WGA-SYD and WGA-MEL flights are still operating.
Tomorrow WGA-MEL is operating.

That means one ZL flight from WGA and one from SYD in the morning will not be operating

Was notified at 1600 today of the cancellation of the SYD-WGA at 0640. With QFLink at $351, will have to wait for the afternoon ZL flight

Why not obtain a full refund and instead book on NSWTrainLink's XPT that departs from Sydney at 0732 hours tomorrow morning? Travel in the first class carriages for probably less than you or your family member paid on ZL, and probably be in WGA before the afternoon ZL flight. The XPT arrives in Wagga Wagga at a timetabled 1354 - it's a pleasant journey through attractive countryside, especially when not in the heat of summer.

On Monday 22 May, ZL767, the 0755 hours SYD - ABX was still taxiing at 0850 hours with SAAB340B VH-OLM, so it will be at least 45 minutes late into the Border City.

The 0825 hours MEL - ABX, ZL3152, has been delayed on Thursday 25 May 2017 to an expected 0935 hours or later departure.

ZL3258, the 0900 MEL - WGA is worse with departure delayed until a predicted 1200 'high noon.'

There was morning fog predicted at both so it may be hanging around.

On Tuesday 30 May 2017, VH-EKX on ZL781, the 1645 hours SYD - ABX took off uneventfully at 1703, about on time, but on approach to ABX undertook about four racetrack type circuits as it held above the Murray River a little to the north of Lake Hume on the NSW/ Victorian border, and then turned north where it may be diverting to WGA. Arrival time at the latter may be at 1845, compared with the scheduled ABX arrival of 1810.

Does ABX have fog or poor visibility?

Tuesday 6 June 2017 sees SAAB340B VH-ZRN on ZL311 (0730 hours GFN down to SYD that did not become airborne until 0905) arriving at 1030 hours, 90 minutes late.

VH-ZRM, its colleague, departed SYD at about 1345, two hours late on ZL773 from SYD down to ABX with arrival likely at `1517, 127 minutes behind schedule.

On a very wet Wednesday 7 June 2017, SAAB340B ZH-ZJS on ZL821, the 0630 hours DBO - SYD that took off about 10 to 15 minutes late at 0654 should arrive at roughly 0814, 34 late.

ZL161 is in a similar holding pattern north of the Wombeyan Caves. VH-ZXK on this OAG - SYD flight should arrive at around 0812, 52 minutes tardy.

The ARM - SYD ZL953 (VH-ZLJ) is 31 minutes late with likely arrival at 0816 hours.

In further on 7 June, ZL662, the 0815 hours WGA - SYD took off at 0904. VH-ZRB is predicted to arrive at around 1014, 49 minutes late.

The SYD - ABX ZL767 (VH-ZXK) was timetabled todepart at 0755 but did not take off until 0903. Arrival should be at around 1008 hours, 48 minutes late. This was because as noted above it was delayed on ZL161 from OAG to SYD earlier this morning.

ZL311, the Friday 9 June 2017 0730 hours GFN down to SYD is again late with takeoff at 0825 hours. SAAB340B VH-ZRB's predicted arrival is at 0939 hours, 39 minutes tardy.

Later on 9 June, with Sydney rainy, there is a lot of holding going on with some interesting flight patterns. ZL983, the 1735 hours late afternoon from ARM down to SYD took off at 1806, about 15 - 20 minutes late but is arriving at roughly 1951 hours, 66 minutes late.

ZL782 from MEL up to ABX (VH-ZLG, the 1830 hours that took off at 1934) should arrive at 2053 hours, 63 minutes late.

ZL179 (VH-NRX), the 1725 hours from OAG to SYD took off at 1725 (meaning it departed early) and is one of a number of Regional Express planes in an extremely lengthy hold (as at 2011 hours) with nominal arrival in SYD shown on FR24 as a landing time of 2010 (already exceeded.) To state the obvious (apologies), these holding patterns cannot continue forever. Diversions may perhaps occur.

The 1830 hours WGA - SYD (ZL678) took off pretty punctually at 1847 with VH-ORX. By 2014 it had been released from its similarly lengthy hold and looks to be arriving at about 2040 hours, an hour late.

ZL783 (1815 hours SYD - ABX, VH-ZLG) had departed by 2132 but had yet to take off, so it is about 180 minutes late.

ZL766, the identically timed departure from ABX but up to SYD (SAAB340B VH-ZLG) took off at 0927 hours with suggested arrival at 1047 hours, 57 minutes late.

The 0945 hours MEL - MGB, ZL3767 (SAAB340B VH-ZXG) took off at 1109 with arrival suggested at 1127 hours, 62 late.

The fog materialised. ZL662, the 0815 hours WFA up to SYD (SAAB340B VH-ZLH) took off at 0927 hours on Monday 12 June. Arrival should be 64 minutes tardy at 1029 hours.

Tuesday 13 June 2018 sees ZL917 (1150 hours MQL - SYD) not having taken off until 1240. SAAB340B VH-ZLR is suggested as arriving at 1433, 48 minutes behind the eight ball.
