Regional Express Delays/Cancellations

ZL3653, the 0630 hours Thursday 26 May MQL - MEL was not airborne until 0702 and with the rainy weather in 'Mexico' is likely to arrive at about 0820, half an hour behind. SAAB340B VH-ZXG has the honours. On 4 September 2016, this aircraft will be 20 years old, another example of Regional Express' ageing fleet.

ZL454 on Friday 27 May, the 0630 hours from GFF did not take off until 0711 (SAAB 340B VH-NRX) and hence with the fairly strong westerly at SYD this morning will be about 45 minutes late in arriving at 0835, coming in on the east-west runway.

ZL353, the 0725 hours NTL to SYD was not airborne until 0851 and is arriving on the SYD tarmac with blocks on at about 0942, 92 minutes late. For most, taking the train would surely be a more comfortable and far less expensive option. It would be interesting to know if such a short hop turned a dollar for Rex, a company that has been struggling of late and continues to have what is becoming a very aged fleet.

ZL768, the 1045 from ABX up to SYD took off at 1151 and is about to arrive at the tarmac stabling area to disembark its passengers at roughly 1306 hours, 61 minutes late. VH-ZXF is the aircraft, a ubiquitous SAAB 340B.

The 1105 MIM to SYD, ZL118, took off at 1218 and should park in SYD at about 1328, 68 minutes late. SAAB 340B VH-ZRH operated the flight.

With the Friday 3 June 2016 fog in MEL, numerous flights have been cancelled or delayed.

ZL3656, the 0815 hours from MEL to MQL is on final call at 0935. Its QF competitor was cancelled.

ZL3763, the 0835 MEL - MGM is shown as instead departing at around 1025 while the 0845 hours to BWT, ZL3557, should instead depart at approximately 1030.

In the past I have found these delays to be underestimated due to the large numbers of planes waiting for ATC clearance to arrive or depart when the fog minimises or ends.

UPDATE: ZL3653, the 0630 from MQL to MEL took off at 0901 hours and should be in MEL at about 1017 instead of 0750. Aircraft is SAAB 340B VH-ZRY.

With the continuing very wet weather along the lower east coast in Australia on Sunday 5 June including significant rainfall at and around Sydney airport, ZL663, the 1001 SYD to WGA was queued for departure on runway 07 as at 1245. VH-ZXK was the patient SAAB 340B aircraft.

In contrast, QantasLink cancelled a SYD - WGA flight.

UPDATE: ZL133, the 1420 hours SYD - MIM (SAAB 340B VH-ZRI) should take off shortly after 1600 hours.

ZL134 (1640 hours late afternoon MYA - SYD) arrived at about 1941 (121 minutes late), VH-ZRI being the aircraft.

Into the evening, ZL833, the 1710 hours from DBO to SYD took off at 1939 and should arrive at 2045 hours, two hours and 22 minutes late. SAAB 340B VH-VNA is the aircraft.

VH-ZLA on the 1710 hours WGA up to SYD took off at 1936 with arrival suggested as 2043, two hours and 23 minute behind time, so a very similar picture overall to the flight above from DBO.

Just noticed ZL 188 SYD to OAG just took off at 22:29, making it 3h 19m late.

Looks like there were plenty of other disruptions during the day as well, with at least one diversion? FlightAware has some gaps and Rex themselves have no information whatsoever.

Reckon it would not have been a pleasant ride in one of the little Saabs heading up today!

Also worth noting that the Melbourne Airport flight status 'boards' must have had a seizure as they were not updated with 'landed' or 'departed'. So many changes today.

The 0840 hours Thursday 9 June ZL166 (SYD to OAG, SAAB 340B VH-ZRH) was airborne at 1037 and so will be almost two hours late in arriving at about 1126.

on Friday 17 June, ZL311 (0730 hours GFN - SYD) took off at 0852. SAAB 340B VH-ZRM is arriving in SYD at about 1011, 71 minutes late.

On Monday 20 June 2016, ZL3151, the 0655 from ABX down to MEL took off at 0727 and should arrive at 0836, 41 minutes late as there is a bit of congestion approaching MEL, the inclement weather not assisting.

Some delays are continuing into the evening of Monday 20 June with ZL3187, the 1750 hours ABX down to MEL taking off at 1827 and expected to arrive at about 1934, 44 minutes late with SAAB 340B VH-RXN as its aircraft.

Delays into Melbourne on Thursday 23 June mean that ZL3257, the 0645 ex WGA that took off at 0712 hours should arrive at around 0833, 33 minutes late. Aircraft is VH-REX, naturally a SAAB 340B.

Similarly ZL3752, the 0630 from MGB did not take off until 0711 so VH-ZXG should arrive at about 0840 hours in MEL, 35 minutes late.

On Friday 24 June, ZL659 (0640 hours SYD down to WGA) took off at 0730 so SAAB 340B VH-OLM should arrive at about 0841, 46 minutes late.

On Tuesday 5 July, ZL3188, the 1920 hours MEL to ABX took off at 2000 with arrival of SAAB 340B VH-ZLG expected at around 2102, 42 minutes late.

The 0830 hours SYD - GFF on Thursday 7 July, ZL483, was still taxiing in SYD at 1025 so aircraft SAAB 340B VH-NRX should arrive at about 1113, 72 minutes behind time.

On a fairly windy mid evening (Sunday 10 July 2016) in the southern state, the MQL - MEL ZL3683 (1830 hours MQL - MEL) did not take off until 2109 hours so it should arrive at approximately 2210, 135 minutes late. SAAB 340B VH-TRX is the aircraft.

The Tuesday 12 July 2016 ZL74 (SAB 340B VH-SBA) was timetabled ex Border City ABX at 1455 but was airborne at 1625. Arrival should be at 1733, 78 minutes tardy.

Given the weather in Albury this afternoon, I'm not surprised.....

Thank you jb747: it's not exactly warm or calm in Melbourne either. Oddly in the opposite direction, ZL781, the 1645 SYD - ABX took off at 1655 and with VH-ZXK is approximately nine minutes late, being due at 1819. So (touch wood) not every flight into or out of ABX is significantly delayed.
