Regional Express Delays/Cancellations

The short hop of a flight from OAG to SYD, ZL161 (VH-ZRH, the normal SAAB 340B) on Saturday 22 October should arrive at 0836, 36 late.

On Saturday 22 October the 0955 hours from ARM down to SYD, ZL955, took off late at 1130 so its timetabled arrival of 1115 has been delayed by about 80 minutes to 1235. Aircraft is VH-ZLF, a ubiquitous SAAB 340B.

Wednesday 26 October sees ZL3684, the 1830 hours from MQL down to MEL having been airborne at 1902. SAAB 340B VH-TRX has had to 'hold' northeast of Boort (Vic) so its arrival should be 39 minutes late at 2029, as there is much air traffic congestion in MEL.

On Thursday 27 October, ZL3152, the 0825 hours MEL to ABX took off at 0903. VH-ZXG should arrive about 25 minutes late at 0950.

While it depends from where in MEL one begins the trip, this is a classic example of where it may be quicker on a total journey time to catch the 0830 hours NSWTrainLink XPT from Melbourne (Southern Cross) to the heart of Albury than the plane - and cheaper.

Today, Thursday 3 November, ZL3772 from MGB to MEL has been delayed in its arrival from 1815 hours in the very early evening to 2135.

ZL3579 from MEL to BWT got away at about 2030 tonight, roughly an hour and 25 late.

On Friday 4 November, ZL3656, the 0815 hours from MEL to MQL is expected to instead depart at 0905 hours. This appears to be because ZL3554 from BWT to MEL has been altered to arrive at 0845 rather than 0745 hours.

In relation to QantasLink, one of our esteemed pilot contributors previously commented that 'he wouldn't be surprised' in reference to an early morning delay out of DBO if the crew had flown ex SYD mid afternoon.

However ZL must have minimum rest for this crew at BWT, as this morning flight tomorrow is obviously delayed because tonight's flight from MEL across Bass Strait is late.

BWT has limited flight frequencies compared to DPO.

Remembrance Day, Friday 11 November 2016 sees ZL456 (SAAB 340B VH-ZRH) running about 52 minutes late with arrival suggested as 1002. There is quite a lot of air traffic into SYD.

ZL311 (VH-TRX) is the 0730 hours GFN - SYD that did not take off until 0845. Arrival is likely at 1007, 67 minutes tardy.

There are numerous delays affecting SYD in the late afternoon and early evening of Sunday 13 November as it appears to only be using the east-west 07/25 runway.

ZL527, the 1720 hours PKE - SYD took off at 1838; it shoudl arrive at 1941 hours, 81 minutes tardy. The SAAB 340B is VH-RXN.

On Monday 14 November, ZL3871, the 1105 morning flight from MEL to KNS took off at 1147 with arrival expected at 1235, 35 minutes behind. SAAB 340B VH-REX is the appropriately registered aircraft.

Thursday 17 November 2016 has the evening ZL3579 (1855 hours from MEL across or 'down' Bass Strait to BWT) having become airborne at 1929 hours. SAAB 340B VH-ORX should hence arrive at roughly 2043, 38 minutes behind what the schedule states.

On Friday 18 November, ZL3151, the 0655 hours early morning from ABX to MEL did not take off until 0739. SAAB 340B VH-RXX then got caught in a holding pattern so arrival should be at 0843, 48 minutes behind schedule.

ZL3257 is in a similar boat: it is the 0645 hours from WGA that was airborne at 0722. It should arrive in MEL at 0847, 47 minutes late with VH-EKD.

ZL3752, the Monday 21 November 0630 hours MGB - MEL (SAAB 340B VH_ORX) took off at 0715, so arrival will be at 0851 rather than 0805 hours.

On Wednesday 23 November 2016, ZL179, the 1725 late afternoon from OAG to SYD (SAAB 340B VH-ZLO) was airborne at 1841 hours. It should be at its destination stopped on the tarmac at 1911, 56 late.

Another flight not helped by the earlier storm in Sydney is VH-SBA on ZL681, the 1900 hours SYD - WGA that became airborne at 2011 hours. It is predicted to arrive 68 minutes late at 2128.

The 1720 hours KNS - MEL is also late, with VH-ORX likely to arrive at 1906, 51 minutes late.

The Wednesday 30 November ZL3151 (0655 hours from ABX to MEL) took off at 0733, with arrival of SAAB 340B VH-TRX expected at 0831, 36 minutes late, again showing by the forecast gate-to-gate loss of time how important it is for flights to not be late taking off from their orginating airport.

ZL3683, the Friday 2 December 1830 hours MQL - MEL took off at 1946, so arrival of SAAB 340B VH-KRX is suggested as 2058, 68 minutes behind the eight ball.

On Monday 5 December ZL3653, the 0630 MQL - MEL was not airborne until 0715. SAAB 340B VH_ZLF should arrive at 0735, 45 minutes tardy.

The 0645 hours from WGA down to MEL, ZL3257 (VH-EKD) took off at a late 0840 so is arriving at 0904, 64 minutes late: not a good start to the morning.

The Monday 5 December 2016 ZL673, the 1515 hours SYD to WGA has been delayed (at least in part) by significant thunderstorm activity around SYD with SAAB 340B VH-EKD not taking off until after 1640 hours.

The 0630 hours ZL3752 ex MGB for MEL had a late start to Thursday 8 December with it not in the sky until 0723, so arrival should be at 0841, 36 minutes behind schedule. Aircraft is SAAB 340B VH-ZRE.
