Retaining Gold Status when there is no flying due to COVID?

I've been far too busy navigating my business through the mess that is COVID in Melbourne to even worry about QFF status so I've just been deleting the numerous emails from QF trying to flog anything and everything.

I qualified QFF Gold in July 2019, my membership year ends April 30 so I've got Gold until then but does anyone know what is happening with membership levels and renewals or do we all have to do domestic status runs to get our 600 SC's before our renewal date?

OK so I've got 375 SC's and need to earn another 225 before 30 April to retain Gold. Not sure how I'm going to go with that given that Melbournians aren't welcome anywhere currently but we will see what happens...

I'm in the same boat as you. 440 SC with a March year end. Waiting for Dan to release us. And then we need another State to let us in.

So 8f your membership year is up and you have not got the 4 flights the status extension given in April is no longer valid?

I'm starting to think that it may be best for me to let my status drop to Silver at the end of my membership year if there is not another status extension and then depending on where borders are at then try to get back Platinum. If QF won't be flying to the UK till at least the end of next year then my planned path to get Platinum back won't be available this membership year.

It will be interesting. I think that its a big ask for them to expect travellers who normally earn their SC's through international travel to now requalify through earning enough SC's on domestic travel. Most of my SC's were accrued through MEL-SYD-DFW-somewhere in the U.S. on AA then LAX-MEL to get home. MEL-SYD-MEL just won't cut it...

Yes, I am with you there, as my anniversary date was January 31st 2020, and until they closed down the skies I had accrued 760 sc’s, all from international travel. Looking through my crystal ball, it doesn’t look good, I hope I am wrong.

I am of the view that Qantas would extend the status again. My anniversary is August and there is no way I can get 600 SC to retain platinum before then if there is no international flight until second half of 2021 (if we get a vaccine)

You could do something like MEL - SYD with QF J for 2 (former) squiggles, SYD - CHC with EK F with a QF flight number (no squggles), and back again, also in F, then back to MEL with QF J.
SYD - CHC with EK F is now $13xx one way, bit more expensive than before the pandemic.
With this, very expensive as it is, you could make up the 300, with 20 extra.
120 SYD - CHC, 120 back, 40 each way MEL - SYD - MEL in QF J.
Maybe all up a spend of $4,500 or so, and you have the SC.
As for the squiggles, which have gone now, maybe something cheap, MEL - somewhere within Vic with QFlink, just 2 needed.
This all assumes that the border is open soon, between MEL and SYD, and that Aussies are allowed to enter NZ without quarantine, ala le TT bubble.

I am in the exact same situation.

I'm curious as to what people think regarding a possible further status extension, or an additional method that could be executed by QF.

I refer to the earlier post which said that all QFFs haven't been able to take advantage of benefits.

My gold is set to expire 31 JUL 2021.

What are QF expecting?

Whilst I did have an intl booking in June/July that would have seen me retain gold, it was cancelled obviously.

Add in the fact that I live in Melb (hopefully travel to Syd and a holiday in FNQ.)

However, Qf kicked in half to retain and then gave me 15 status credits a month for 2 months = 330.

This is still 270 SC 's and 4 flights. (Or 220 if the Loyalty bonus every 500 points counts..)

With huge uncertainty surrounding intl travel what do people b think will happen in my situation?Are they expecting me me to fly J all over Aus just to retain?

Will they offer an additional extension?
